"Zero Punctuation" and "Dev Diary" by Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw - The only thing worth watching on The Escapist

Noooooooooooooooooo hes collabing with the fat cow fuck. I thought he had stayed out of the political scene after GG, hes doing a fucking Dodger and will probably put some shit in his bio next. Dodger is a fucking cunty whore cause she started pandering to the globohomos, I dont want Yahtzee to turn out that way.
Dodger was the first person I ever watched stream a video game c. 2010. I used to lover her. But I can't be around any of those people anymore (orbiters of the late TotalBiscuit); they're all so fucking unbearably woke, and dumb as shit, too. It never bothered me that they had braindead normie left-wing beliefs as a teenager, but once Jesse Cox started going on about vaccines, I realized it was all over.

It is very sad to see that Yahtzee is probably going to plummet down the same mineshaft. He was really the only one left.

Late but I was right again although the new show seems like a slight downgrade. I have to applaud calandra though he's not focused on ad revenue so all the naughty words galore and I'm incredibly surprised he went on the conspiratorial right wing podcast called the side scrollers, the hub of vaccine denialism and fascism. Good on him, he's at least being nice to the outsiders.
There's a right-wing vidja podcast? So I can listen to people talk about videogames without having to hear trannies?

Latest stream on second wind only got 500 views and no comments suggesting the hype is dying down finally.

They were at 57k and saying “our patreon goal is 60k let’s get there!” which seemed a bit greedy to me.

I liked Jessie Cox when he actually played games, but unsubscribed from him once the channel became his personal video blog. I don't find the man interesting or enjoyable on his own.

On the subject of Yahtzee, I do not understand why he is surrounding himself with dead weight. He was the only good thing about the Escapist, and I strongly suspect he will be the only content creator drawing the eyes to Second Wind.

At the end of the day - content creation does not require a middleman and few people understand this more than Yahtzee himself.

He was at least young and Youtube/Twitch/Patreon/etc did not all exist as they did now when he signed his rights away to the Escapist, but content creators today know that's a trap not worth doing. There's virtually no reason to sign up with some org like Second Wind when everything they can offer you can just do yourself.

They don't have a content library, they don't have any prestige, they don't have any reach, and there's no "getting in on the ground floor" because they already started with like ~10 people who all already know each other. They have nothing that would attract talent the Escapist (their previous endeavor) has created 0 other successful content creators.

I never unsubbed from Jesse I just lost interest in his videos and genuinely forgot who he was for like 15 years. The only content of his I watch is the shit from 2010 where I left off lol

Now I wonder just what would have happened if he had made the same sort of deal with Lowtax, back in the day. Not directly with the man(gosteen), obviously--like if somebody shoved him aside and said "let me handle this before you screw us out of a sweet deal, alright?".

I was thinking about this earlier, and it's probably just laziness. He could make more money managing it all himself; or he could keep with the Escapist crew he's been working with for years, let the same person keep editing his videos, let the same people keep doing his art, never have to worry about promotion or managing money directly, and accept a small fraction of that 60k/month instead.

I do find it pretty frustrating that he's finally left The Escapist, what we've all been waiting for for years, and rather than just go independent...he does this dumb shit instead. I had always hoped he was more ambitious.

Yahtzee is technically being ambitious here. Owning a YT channel/website (if successful) is much better than simply contributing to one. He has a team of people he thinks he's going to be successful with and he's going for it. Much better to be Lowtax than some random article writer getting peanuts.

I'm just pointing out that Yahtzee (business owner) is going to have a really hard time finding successful content creators to join up, because Yahtzee (content creator) would likely never take that sort of deal ever again unless there was something truly special about it.

I want to say there is a theoretical advantage due to all the bullshit content ID. But Yahtzee has virtually no copyright content in his videos and no A loggers to false strike, so even that doesn't apply.

I'm curious how Yahtzee would have made long forms critiques like Mandalore, but he's too lazy for it. He is very similar to James Rolfe in that regard.

Yahtzee has come out many times and said he just wants to focus on making videos and not worry about any business or marketing stuff. He says he doesn’t have the head for it.

I guess if his wife is really that rich it makes sense for him to just focus on doing what he enjoys.

Well, his flopped gaming bar and his failrd pilot fo a game review show, def highlights that he does suck at the bussiness side of things.

I find it perfectly on brand. I'm convinced he stopped giving a shit about Zero Punctuation years ago, he does it because he has the formula down to a T, he still gets traffic and people are entertained enough by it to give a shitty rebranding almost 60k a month (which I still find insane). So he sets this shit up, probably gets a much nicer chunk of the pie as long as the numbers stay like that and he can act as welfare for his talentless friends that for whatever reason he is willing to drag through the finish line but also probably take care of the stuff that he doesn't give a fuck about anyway.

So that gives him more time to focus on what he really wants to do while also ensuring a cash flow. And what does he like to do? Make shitty adventure games and writing books that want to be Pratchett but fail miserably, because that's what he really enjoys. As far as I'm concerned, it's a winning strategy and who knows, maybe after 10 years he manages to release a proper hit and can stop depending on Ramblomatic to get the big bucks and he can finally ascend beyond "internet critic" like so many of his peers have tried and failed. And if everything fails, he just gets his step dad to drop him in some middle management job and you are done.

Willing to bet if that happens, then Yahtz just gonna end himself, he never struck me as a guy who can do middle management work, because of how much he aint a people person.
