Nintendo Switch (Currently Plagued) - Here we shit post about the new Nintendo console, The Switch

@Calandrino Just noticed something kinda interesting. Was unable to sleep so looked at my Switch. Since I have two accounts (one for US and one for Japanese e-shopping) I get news from both regions. The latter mentioned "Irem Collection Volume 1."

Turns out this collection is available in English too.

It contains Image Fight 1 and 2 and X-Multiply. Okay, two of those are already covered by Arcade Archives, but Image Fight II was PC Engine exclusive and kind of rare so I'm glad that's available for non-scalper prices.

I might buy this when it goes on sale. Kinda shocked that Leo, Gallop, and Undercover Cops aren't on the Switch already.

I think they overproduced it. Wii Music still isn't worth shit, for example. Or, to use another example, sealed copies of F-Zero for SNES were like 20-25 dollars for literal decades because of how overproduced it was (or someone found a few pallets somewhere or something.)
It's hard to imagine how they could have overproduced Everybody 12 Switch really--the thing was anticipated and treated like a leper shoved out to die, at least as much as you can do that with software

how much must it suck to be that team, the one team at nintendo that unequivocally shat the bed after shitting gold in the past decade basically
seriously you get up you go to work and you have to face the fact that you suck more at making games than intelligent systems and you're worse at conning retards than the drooling spastics at gamefreak

Did 1-2 Switch kill your dog or something? It’s bad, but it’s not some horrible malicious abomination.

I don't trust ININ to do anything right, but here's the other upcoming volumes:

GunForce
GunForce II
Air Duel

Mr. Heli
Mystic Riders
Dragon Breed

There's only like 10 Irem games in Arcade Archives. Maybe these bastards are holding the rights hostage, I dunno. Can't even play Kung Fu Master on Switch, wtf.

nah the first was fun enough but the second one obviously had serious production problems, had a lot of rumors about how it was testing badly and Nintendo didn't want to release it and didn't know how to fix it. Out of all Nintendo's published releases in the switch era this is the first to really stumble and have no evident appeal to anyone even in the company. It's not going to make Nintendo gunshy about tech demo launch games, but this was probably their first unequivocal mistake in a console generation.

Is ININ related to DotEmu somehow? Because this is sounding to me like a parceled out version of DotEmu's Irem Arcade Hits collection (PC-only download-only Irem compilation).

DotEmu's thing was infamous for emulation issues and using the wrong version of Undercover Cops, so I'm hoping if Inin gets that far they don't repeat that mistake. So far the games I've played from them haven't had anything majorly wrong with them.

I think ININ is basically the same as Strictly Limited Games. SLG is scummy and scammy like every other "boutique" game publisher, but sometimes they get their talons into a good game or decent emulation job.

I sometimes get a little mixed up on who's doing the publishing vs who's behind the actual code monkey work. The programming on these Irem collections is apparently done by Ratalaika, who are behind some mid-ish non-terrible ports like Gleylancer and Gynoug.

DotEmu I think only does publishing, but they're a name to beware for emulation, they've put out tons and tons of absolute bottom-tier cash grab crap, especially on PC. I don't think they have anything directly to do with ININ/SLG.

For those of you who think all Nintendo games go up in value long run please refer to Codename STEAM on 3DS.

You can still buy it for $10 brand new, and recent ebay sales are going for $0.99 used.

Shit's never going to be valuable.
Well, it'll probably go up from a buck at least... Think about it, you could sit on 1,000 Codename STEAMs for a decade and double your money(probably)!

You know, whenever I used to get mod chipped consoles, I was excited for the library that I could get and the things that I could do with the system.

The Switch on the other hand, more than half of my library are wii u and shitty pc ports and it can only do basic shit that the console should have done since launch like backing up save files (I can't even get a background theme to play on the main menu because this shit can't do that).

I can't believe I'm about to say this, but the Wii u had the last creative and impactful titles on a Nintendo console, as few as they were. The Switch's "new" games are all watered down titles from what came before them.

Personal space is worth way more than that. Far better to buy 3 Mario Kart 64s and have them go up in value way more.

edit: Struggling to play a Wii U game right now, all of the struggles aren't the game itself, they're the Wii U being a piece of shit with a really shitty button layout and what I think is a dying hard drive.

Weird, I'm at 398 physical switch games I thought looked interesting enough to pay actual money for.

Backing up saves on the computer was already convulsed back with the Playstation Vita that required a middleman program (and transferring the entire game alongside it if digital), so I can't say I'm surprised the Switch just skipped the whole process to prevent hack exploits too. I do appreciate that the Switch can handle more than a single account (unlike on PSVita) but also allows games from the other eshop account to be played on the main one (including for online too - I can play the Japanese-only EDF 4.1 online with the subscription from my main EU account).

I entirely disagree on the library thing though, but I also don't strictly limit myself to first-parties (which I did enjoy too).

What does your wife's boyfriend think about that?

Nah, but seriously. Out of those 398 games, how many of those can you get on another platform with better performance?

How many of those would make you go "damn, that was a great time and well worth it"

The only game I could think of that got me a whiff of enjoyment and satisfaction was Mario Odyssey.

Yes, and that was one of the reasons the Vita was a complete failure. Even Soyny and Coomersoft didn't take away the liberty to back up your saves as far as their home consoles is concerned.

I thought the whole appeal of a Nintendo console were its first parties since you can practically get every third party somewhere else with better performance. Especially now with the Steam Deck and other pc handhelds.

There's a few where the performance is lol tier like Ikai or Death End re;Quest 2, but for the most part everything else is fine and I'm not picky about it anymore. I used to sit and fiddle with Advanced graphics settings on PC games to make sure I had maximum fps and dick around in config files to change fullscreen or resolution modes and yeah I don't want to do that anymore.

More importantly it's a better experience just playing Switch versions. The sleep mode is rock solid reliable, I can move between TVs very easily, I can play off TV while my kids use it, and there's a ton of controller flexibility that just sync super easily -- like really official wireless NES, Famicom, and SNES controllers is great for low end games. It's all just a lot easier on Switch, there's less friction to everything.

"damn, that was a great time and well worth it"
Most of the ones I've played. I want to say in recent memory I did not like NG (sequel to Death Mark) or Clannad. There's another tier where I might get 15-20 hours in and broadly lose interest but I'm ok with saying I enjoyed something for the first 15 hours and then dropping it. Plus even games I don't care much for like Kirby Star Allies my kids are really into.

I may recall me and @Baraka Obama share the same feeling about framerate not mattering much to us in practice, unless it's actual slideshow-tier which has been rather rare on Switch to my experience. I have a specific selection of poorly optimized games (Age of Calamity, Samurai Maiden, EDF 4.1, Serious Sam Collection, The Talos Principle, Resident Evil 6) but the problem was not bad enough to made me drop them.

The Switch is more like the actual Playstation console, for the Japanese games, in my point of view. The Nintendo first-parties are a welcomed bonus, especially Pikmin, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade although I've been enjoying the others.

I prefer prioritizing Switch over PC these days anyway because it's simply more convenient on several levels.
Plus there is a bunch of Japanese-only titles that can't be found on PC, and my current taste in vidya lies in JP and indies.

I don't recall strongly disliking games on Switch with the sole exceptions of No More Heroes 3 (which I thankfully rented it since I've heard mixed opinions about it), Super Robot Wars 30 and the remaster of Corpse Party. Those three games were essentially flawed in design so playing on a different platform wouldn't have changed my opinion on them.

But I stand with the idea that if you buy a handheld system, regardless it is a PC or console one either way, framerate and graphic fidelity shouldn't be your priorities.

It's a bit lacking in certain areas, but I think you're exaggerating it. I see your point though; Yoshi is shittier than Wii U's, ToTK is just a BotW expansion, and many staples are missing (Donkey Kong, Star Fox, Mario Kart, etc).

Still, it's got stuff like Metroid Dread, Mario Odyssey, and Fire Emblem (which has sucked for a long time but is popular). You can't really write the Switch off, it's at least leagues ahead of PS5 and even PS4.

I did not like NG
Why not? Did you like the first one? I liked them both well enough, though the cast was more memorable in DM.

So, since there's some collectors here, here's a thought. I was on pricecharting today and the prices seemed artificially high, looking closer they were incorporating shipping prices into their values. Good thing, right? I think its awful, it is going to inflate prices as buyers try to get "pricecharting price" while not comping shipping. Hurts people who actually still go to physical game stores to.

First one was really cool, had a great atmosphere and was really hard to put down.

NG I found the puzzles to be just incomprehensible. They weren't made to be something you could figure out through reasoning it was just to be a gotcha to kill you until you seemingly try every option. The characters are cool especially the idol.
