The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have announced they will step back as "senior" royals and work to become financially independent.

In a statement, Prince Harry and Meghan also said they plan to split their time between the UK and North America.

The BBC understands no other royal - including the Queen or Prince William - was consulted before the statement and Buckingham Palace is "disappointed".

Senior royals are understood to be "hurt" by the announcement.

In their unexpected statement on Wednesday, also posted on their Instagram page, the couple said they made the decision "after many months of reflection and internal discussions".

"We intend to step back as 'senior' members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen."

They said they plan to balance their time between the UK and North America while "continuing to honour our duty to the Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages".

"This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity."

A Buckingham Palace spokeswoman said discussions with the duke and duchess on their decision to step back were "at an early stage", adding: "We understand their desire to take a different approach, but these are complicated issues that will take time to work through."

The couple's announcement on Wednesday comes two months after the Duke of York withdrew from public life after a BBC interview about his ties to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who killed himself in August.

Omid Markle is really bad at trying to insult people. Everyone who knows her is guarded around her. The woman has no friends except for PR-driven mercenary "friendships." In other words, she only has friends that WME arranges for her. When it comes to Hollywood, acting still goes on, even when filming has stopped. Everything you see in the media is a facade. The reality is that feelings towards Meghan by everyone from the producers to the camera people, range from disdainful indifference to actual fear of her.

What I hear and see in the media and what I'm told is the off-set reality is so different that it makes me ragey sometimes. I wish this woman would go away and get canceled already. I miss the days when I didn't know she existed. Fuck you Harry for introducing this tramp to the world and shattering our shield of ignorance.

I've heard that WME is in trouble thenselves. They have been losing celebs to other PR firms for years. And I think they took Meghan on because Meghan generates publicity. There is no bad publicity as long as people keep clicking and commenting, and buying. Then there is a trickle down effect into the PR agency.

I've also heard that they are sick of her shit and ready to drop her. But something is staying their hand, and I'm not sure what it is. There was something shady about the way she got their representation, and there's something shady about the way she has kept their representation as long as she has. I believe she promised them something big, which I think is divorcing Harry, but whatever it is, she hasn't pulled the trigger yet, and WME is supposedly getting tired of waiting. It wouldn't surprise me if they drop her within six months, but I'm just speculating.

They announced the children's titles, they printed the article supposedly instigated by Meghan's five "young mothers"/friends that revealed that Meghan wrote that letter to her dad. She was so sure HE woukd leak it, but when he didn't, she did it through these five mystery friends, all of whom are probably also named Meghan Markle, and her beloved People Magazine.
I'm not sure if this is true. Could just be that they're unusually sympathetic towards her and willing to print her bullshit so she naturally favors them.
But if true it's funny as hell. Would certainly fit with all the other weirdly outdated ideas and preferences she has.

Apparently, his publishers "accidentally" released a version of the book that named the person who was so terribly racist to Meghan and the donor's baby, which is defintely not something they did for publicity. He's denying he had anything to do with it.

He's claimed, amongst other things, that piers morgan had some sort of long-term and close relationship with Camilla - "regular chats on the phone" - in the same vein as Camilla and Charlie's relationship while he was married to Diana. It's pretty obvious that he's angling to portray Camilla as, at the very least, engaging in emotional affairs (perhaps hoping people will view her as a serial whore and Charles as a cuck), as some sort of no u attack in defence of his previous Meghan (who is a whore by definition).

The rule of celebrity gossip is that if the story appears in People, it comes directly from the source. So whatever you read there is what the subject WANTS you to think or know. This is true for everyone, and yes, they are willing to print any bullshit because they rely on maintaining good relationships with the celebs and their PR directly.

Other mags may try to publish anonymous sources/rumors or "scoops" that pierce the image to sell copies. People serves as the PR wash, but you know it's always "true" in a certain sense.

I can't read Dutch, but supposedly the manuscript said Charles and the Princess of Wales-- not Charles and Kate. At the time these conversations supposedly took place, Camilla was the POW. She used Duchess of Cornwall as her title since POW was so closely associated with Diana. So this may have been meant for Camilla but it hit Kate instead.

This is pretty funny either way. The King and Queen have pretty high ratings in bongland. Charles is kinda detached from reality anyway but people seem to accept it as endearing. If he actually asked the question I can see it coming from a place of genuine curiosity. If Camilla did too I could see her asking just so Charles didn't feel bad. Kate is Markle's arch nemesis; making her the perpetrator here looks like a fake hit job.

The threat of them releasing names had more power than the supposed 'truth' IMO.

The Duchess of Sussex hasn't been a part of the cast's recent group texts about the show's massive recent resurgence, Gina Torres told Variety on the 81st Annual Golden Globes red carpet.

"When it all came through, we were all texting each other," Torres said. "Yes, our text thread is insane right now. So it’s very exciting."

However, not every star is in the conversation.

"We don’t have her number," Torres said of Meghan, who played Rachel Zane on the show from 2011 to 2018. "We just don’t. So she’ll see, she’ll watch. She’ll be happy that we’re here."

The Suits cast has planned a Globes night reunion, with Gabriel Macht (Harvey Specter), Sarah Rafferty (Donna Paulsen) and Patrick J. Adams (Michael Ross) expected to present during the Sunday night show. Adams spoke of the show's second wind of fans to PEOPLE on the red carpet, too, beside his wife, Pretty Little Liars alum Troian Bellisario.

"When you say goodbye to a show, you walk away it ends, and you had your moment, you think 'that's it.' It's gonna be over, and nothing else is gonna happen. You get to just go to the history books. So, to have this second swell, it's been really, really strange."
