Person who didn't tumble down the stairsWait. Who was Tumbles specifically before he tumble down the stairs?
Shortly after this post, FWA has only gained more ground with their announcement earlier this week that they've built up relations with the Aloft Atlanta hotel 2 blocks away from the main hotel, making it 4 hotels total now. If the current trend continues, like Big O said, FWA is on a fast track to toppling over AC and MFF. To give you an idea, in 2022 FWA had 7212 and it shot up to 10328 in 2023.And this upcoming FWA is not only gonna have the Marriott Marquis (the hotel where the con is centrally located) but it will also include the nearby Atlanta Hilton and Hyatt Regency. Three whole skyscraper hotels chartered out for 2024, and as of two Wednesdays ago the blocks opened up and sold out rapid-fire.
FWA seems to have prime real estate that it could potentially beat out the attendance records of MFF or Anthrocon if either of their two locations can't fix their constant lack of hotel space year after year, but FWA continues to scoop up more than just those three entire blocks of downtown Atlanta.
More does not necessarily mean a better con experience, more attendees will mean longer lines at registration, an overcrowded con-space and longer lines at events with people excluded due to capacity issues.Shortly after this post, FWA has only gained more ground with their announcement earlier this week that they've built up relations with the Aloft Atlanta hotel 2 blocks away from the main hotel, making it 4 hotels total now. Watch this be the beginning of gatekeeping in the furry Fandom.More does not necessarily mean a better con experience, more attendees will mean longer lines at registration, an overcrowded con-space and longer lines at events with people excluded due to capacity issues.
Do ya think "the lottery" could be fixed?Who's ready for the lottery???
Can’t wait for the inevitable horror stories of the 6 hour long HIV testing lines where the test rate is 80% positive , the 5 overdoses a night and all 4 hotel pools getting clogged up with shit filled diapers by the third dayMore does not necessarily mean a better con experience, more attendees will mean longer lines at registration, an overcrowded con-space and longer lines at events with people excluded due to capacity issues.
They indirectly gatekeep the pedos and zoo by having room lotteries, somewhat. Speaking of room lotteries, the melodrama these furfags have over this shit is always a good laughter. They'll make a tweet saying how they're "burnt out" or how "rooms are sold out before the passkey link opens", because heaven forbid staff and volunteers get a room to help your convention happen in the first place. They are pounding sand over a damn hotel room that isn't in the main hotel, incredible!Watch this be the beginning of gatekeeping in the furry Fandom.
They wouldn't gatekeep to keep out pedophiles
They wouldn't gatekeep to keep out zoophile
But they might gatekeep so conventions can still be manageable.
Who's ready for the lottery???
As long as they're graciously allowing in the ilk from Bad Dragon & Co they're doing a whole lot of nothing to weed out the problem people in the fandom. They indirectly gatekeep the pedos and zoo by having room lotteries, somewhat.
Smart phones (as they exist today) have been around in their current form for nearly two decades now. It amazes me that people still haven't learned to turn off wifi and bluetooth in public places (and especially at conferences). Really they should never be enabled unless you're actively using them no matter where you are, but I digress. If you have bluetooth on by default, you're a retard.
I think too many people rely on bluetooth smartwatches or earphones nowadays.Smart phones (as they exist today) have been around in their current form for nearly two decades now. Hell, I never knew any of that, and I’ve been using smart phones for years. Why would I turn that shit off? It’s how I hook it to my car/watch etc. I’m really not surprised that most people don’t think of this….Smart phones (as they exist today) have been around in their current form for nearly two decades now. Neither of those require an always-on connection unless they're actually in use (headphones especially). I guess the smartwatch won't bleep and blip for every notification if it can't phone home to the mothership but damn, during a conference I'd rather have a "dumb smart watch" that just tells the time and leave all the radios turned off.I think too many people rely on bluetooth smartwatches or earphones nowadays.
Back when modern Smartphones were still new, it was common for people to turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when leaving their office/home due to them bugging them constantly to connect to a Wifi network it detected. After those popups began getting hidden by default, people just leave their Wifi and Bluetooth on all the time.Smart phones (as they exist today) have been around in their current form for nearly two decades now. the whole point of a smartphone is to be as user friendly as possibleBack when modern Smartphones were still new, it was common for people to turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when leaving their office/home due to them bugging them constantly to connect to a Wifi network it detected. But the sad fact is most smartphone owners are too dumb to understand how to change the settings, let alone comprehend why they should do it.
Needless to say, shenanigans have ensued during MidwestFurFest's registration day. If you have bluetooth on by default, you're a retard.

It's only iPhones that are dumb enough to acknowledge every single Bluetooth pairing request without any sort of timeout and effectively let themselves get DDoSed, as well as the passive connecting devices like dildos that don't have any security for ease of use.Hell, I never knew any of that, and I’ve been using smart phones for years. More so that leaving the older inefficient radios enabled when not needed would sooner drain your battery. This isn't as much as an issue today. Unless you're at Defcon, leaving things enabled isn't usually a concern, but depends on your privacy tolerance.Back when modern Smartphones were still new, it was common for people to turn off Wifi and Bluetooth when leaving their office/home due to them bugging them constantly to connect to a Wifi network it detected. Even some of the most tech nerdy of us aren't doing that. I want my watch, headphones, and everything else to stay connected or in the case of my car, to automatically pair. I'm absolutely not going to be manually fucking around turning bluetooth on and off, especially when in the case of headphones a public place is where I use them most.It amazes me that people still haven't learned to turn off wifi and bluetooth in public places
