My take on the Token thing is that it was an unfunny joke that the few remaining obsessives who still watch this show refuse to acknowledge wasn't all that funny. They'll spam the joke at every opportunity. I remember watching a compilation of Cartman having bad shit happened to him and I mentioned how watching Token beat his ass was satisfying.

I immediately had 3 faggots respond to me with "*Tolkien" "Actually, his name is Tolkien." And "Wtf his name is Tolkien, what are you racist?"

The last season I really enjoyed was 18. Everything past then has been a mix of ok, cringe, and underwhelming.

They have a ton of things to focus on, the last 7 years have been absolutely insane and are a gold mine when you are an edgy comedian that gives zero shits about offending somebody, specially with like 10 episode seasons to stretch it out. You know that episode from season 5 where everyone says the word shit all the time? The moral of that episode could be applied to the show as a whole now. I mean, it was funny when the show still portrayed the boys as rebellious kids who cuss behind their parents' backs. But at this point all of them are adults in kids' bodies and none of the actual grown ups on the show care about them swearing anymore, so it loses its luster a lot. What I'm getting at here is that Cartman and his friends going "Shit fuck spooge vagina balls" just makes me eyeroll and sigh these days, like it's trying too hard to be edgy without leaving the safe edgy bubble (all those words and they still won't say faggot anymore).

I'm not a fan of censors usually, but I kind of wish Comedy Central would censor South Park like they did back in the 90s. Cuz it seems like the censors forced the writers to come up with some clever innuendos instead of in-yo-fucking-face" cussing.

Where the fourth graders are the voice of reason and are now speaking and behaving like adults. So you have the sharp contrast with their ages against literally everything else in their lives which was the exact opposite of how the show mostly was in its early seasons. Now the adults are braindead and the children have surpassed them just without getting any older.

This is a problem in almost all shows or franchises that feature kids. Where the kids in stuff like The Hunger games or Attack on Titan literally behave like adults and have the wisdom or adults and act like they have decades of life experience. But to sell the show to the teenage crowd they age down the main characters into being children. Even Game of Thrones/ASOIAF has most of its main cast as literal children including King Bran the teenager. It's tiresome. Where the kid characters in these series are becoming kings and generals by age 18 and the 50-year-old world experienced genius adults sit there like morons mouths agape in total servitude.

It still cracks me up how Trump irrevocable ruined the show's quality. It was already on a decline, but it still seemed savageable. After Trump though... like Goddammit man, I don't care if Matt and Trey don't like Trump, but their output straight up devolved into The Daily Show tier. Like, if you don't care about politics, you would find it borderline impossible to understand, let alone enjoy anything from season 20 and 21. I think watching John Oliver is preferable to watching those seasons. And now, 2024 is approaching and Matt and Trey haven't put out anything making fun of Biden. Not even a senile joke. They really haven't fully recovered since they made that episode where Bills Cosby and Clinton made "The First Gentleman's club" They were clearly expecting that to hit harder with President Hitlery in office, but Trump being elected instead took all of the wind out of their sails. They never really got it back either. They are still to this day shells of their former selves... I also say that their desire to fit in with the world of Broadway (even if it took a while) also defanged the hell out of them. Southpark, like most funny animated comedies, hit a peak decades ago and hasn't been funny since. You may get a smile or the odd chortle, but proper laugh out loud moments are dead.

As for Token, his name is Token Black. They say it a few times in different episodes in the early season. The hate crime episode and the one where all the blacks move to southpark and Token goes to live with lions.

They might remove certain historical footage or archive footage that they list the licenses for. And they might remove jokes or lines, censor gore, or even remove entire episodes. When the torrents are rips of new Bluray releases they will be the new versions with less content.

These streaming companies like Netflix or HBO often will purchase complete shows from foreign countries. But they only purchase part of the show and cut out a ton of episodes as well to save money. They will call them the "international release" of the show. So you go from 80 episodes to 55 episodes and you get these weird jumps in time or plot holes. But if you were unaware of the cuts then you might not pick up on it.

Also the new episodes keep the brand fresh to sell things like video games and merchandise. And for their big goal which is streaming service contracts for the 'safe' episodes that don't mock things like Mohammed or whatever. Their big HBO contracts and Paramount contracts were because they were promised new episodes. Not just the back catalog of older shows.
