Modern plane autopilots can descend a craft to such a point that anyone with enough IQ to listen to instructions and not start throwing random switches could probably crash land the plane in a way that wouldn't kill most people. The plane will be fucked, but as long as you come in shallow enough with the gear down, you'll be able to slow enough to crash mostly safely at the far end of the airstrip. Autopilot can line you up and get you close enough.

A water ditch might be more dangerous for the novice as its really hard to judge relative height to the water, and is gonna be far less forgiving on the angle of attack when you try and put it down. You don't have a rolling stop to bleed off energy, its pretty close to all or nothing once you flop down.

As fun as it is to think that this is mostly covid related, a big chunk of it is just the aging pilot work force. Its a high stress job with brutal hours, and pilots tend to turn to a lot of chemical assistance across the board of legality to make it through. Combine that with them getting old, and more of them are gonna be dropping dead from the strain of the whole thing. Meanwhile, Airlines are struggling to bring on enough new pilots to meet demands, so they're forced to work the existing crews even harder. Bit of a self reinforcing problem here.

Its my personal opinion that Vaccination is probably aggravating this, but these pilots are burning the candle at both ends and kinda fucked regardless.

Its also a psychological thing. i've been around enough boomers to know they're more scared of the unknown and will tolerate working a job they hate as long as the temperature in the pot doesn't heat up too quickly. Covid was such a huge change that it really made them stop and reconsider things. A lot like how the 2016 election helped a lot of people suddenly become politically aware, covid made a lot of older people realize they'd rather be worse off financially than bother with a workplace. Plus between SSI maxing out at 70 and all the penalties and bullshit if you're still working in your 70s and the whole deadly virus most of them realized life's too short to worry about making more money.

didn't realize that, i'd assume that the water would at least be easier to survive crashing into vs the literal hard ground.

Likewise, Christian Drosten and his team allegedly developed the COVID-19 PCR test practically overnight based on "reports on social media", got their paper peer reviewed within 24 hours after acceptance by the journal Eurosurveillance (where Drosten works as an editor) and had TIB Molbiol already have PCR testing kits ready for shipping on January 10.
Unsuprisingly Drosten had professional contacts with Chinese researchers working at the WIV and is aquianted with Shi Zhengli. It also won't be a suprise that Drosten has a history of alarmism when it comes to both the original SARS as well as Swine flu.

The original paper states that the test was developed with a viral genome sequence published on virological.org on January 10, 2020.
Which is also the same day TIB Molbiol was shipping PCR testing kits to Hong Kong.
Of course it all makes sense when you acknowledge the virus was circulating since spring 2019, the Chinese knew how to test for it and simply laundered their research thru Western proxies.

One guy was arrested in New Zealand for spreading misinformation.
Police have arrested a man in connection with a mass privacy breach of Covid-19 vaccination data.

It comes after Te Whatu Ora- Health New Zealand launched an employment investigation, accusing a health sector worker of spreading misinformation using government data about Covid-19 vaccines.

A 56-year-old man was arrested this afternoon in relation to the “unauthorised disclosure and misuse of data”, police said.

He is charged with accessing a computer system for dishonest purposes and will appear in Wellington District Court tomorrow.


“As the case is before the court, police cannot comment further,” police said.

A man believed to be a Te Whatu Ora staff member was interviewed on a New Zealand conspiracy theory site last week. He claimed he developed a database for the vaccine rollout and quoted from that work.

Former TV presenter and conspiracy theorist Liz Gunn took to X, formerly Twitter, this afternoon to report police surrounded the “whistleblower’s” house at 2.15pm and that an arrest was imminent.

A woman who lost both parents during the pandemic is furious people’s health data is being used to spread misinformation about the safety of the Covid-19 vaccination.
