I've heard talk that this ending is shit on purpose because they are making fun of or some sort of statement on capeshit.

Free Guy is a far better movie than it had any right to be. Had it been just a little bit more polished, it could have easily been a new generation's WF Roger Rabbit. (kind of like how Wreck-it Ralph tried and got close)

What I keep trying to explain to Taika is that payoffs need stronger set ups. And you can't just drop the set up 2 lines before the payoff. The further back you place it (and the better you disguise it) the more the pay off works.

Like had the movie done more about "product placements" and "corporate tie-ins" earlier in the film - maybe even done a couple of jokes about "paying for swag" before the climax, then the final reveal of getting the Marvel stuff would have worked much better. As it is, the movie just drops it in with a quick Chris Evans cameo to basically wink at the audience "oh yeah, we know how shameless we're being - isn't it hilarious?"

That and a couple of other writing missteps is what keeps the movie from outgrowing it's C+ rating into a truly great classic. Like my buddy says, it's cargo-cult writing - all of the flash, none of the substance. Which only heightens the irony because the very climax of the movie is supposed to be Free Guy (the substance) fighting his "all flash" counterpart. Hence the latter just uttering "Catchphrase" because it's supposed to be a joke on how surface level he is. (Which the movie then undercuts by having the "substance" character win with flash instead of substance - meaning he is essentially forfeiting the argument and agreeing with the enemy - flash is all that matters.)

I doubt Bob would ever get that. He loves style over substance, and that movie had a lot of style and references he understood, so he clapped and cheered in his mother's house, which he had just moved into and so needed a brief respite from the knowledge that he's a loser.

I hate how stupid the abortion debate has gotten. I'm Christian and pro-life with reasonable exceptions, and this is one of them. The fetus is almost certainly not going to live, either stillborn or dying shortly thereafter (estimates are only 5% live births, and of those, half will die within weeks, and only about 10% live longer than a year). Putting a mother through all that solely because you feel abortion is murder and she'd become a murderer is very un-Christian.

As it turns out, you can be Christian and also be of a rational mind. Bob just goes for the easy dunks.

Y'know, Bob, if you want to blame anybody for the death of E3, don't look to the Dorito Pope. Instead, it's your beloved Nintendo that started those dominoes falling when they stopped doing live presentations and switched to the Direct format (in my mind, partly because they were tired of people making fun of their bizarre showcases during the Wii/Wii U era; remember the Vitality Sensor?). Once other studios realized they could promote their games to as wide an audience as they could during E3, if not more so, without having to spend money on all the booth displays and fees, they also fucked off. I'll miss it too, but the media landscape has changed and E3 isn't all that necessary anymore.

Also, Bob, you had like 20 years of adulthood to take a single trip out to LA if it was so important to you. Why didn't you?

Quick off topic aside, but if you've never seen Homicide: Life on the Street, I highly recommend checking it out. It's based on a book by the guy who made The Wire, and has some great acting from Andre Braugher as Pembleton. They took real cases and events from David Simon spending a year with the Baltimore Homicide department and didn't over dramatize them... for the most part. Also it's not afraid to point out how boring it can be to be a cop... which the network heads hated at the time, apparently.
