Sony hate thread

The lack of identity was most obvious with PlayStation All-Stars. That roster felt super disconnected and unnatural compared to Nintendo or even recent competitors such as Nickelodeon.
The roster in PlayStation All-Stars was so fucking pathetic that it didn't have the first five or so characters you would associate with PlayStation. No Crash, no Spyro, no Lara Croft, no Solid Snake, no Cloud Strife, no Jill Valentine and no Abe.

And the good characters they did have were bad versions (Dante) or locked away as DLC (Kat). That game had a ton of potential, I don't know how they screwed up so badly.

With the cancellation of TLOU multiplayer one of the 10+ planned live service Sony games is dead::
Sony hasn’t confirmed what all 12 titles are, but we know some of them — and we may also know why some of them have slipped beyond Sony’s FY25 target. Developer Naughty Dog is currently developing a new multiplayer experience set in The Last of Us fiction, but that game needs more time before its ready to be shown, the studio said in May. Sony-owned Bungie is also working on a new Marathon game, but the colorful extraction shooter was reportedly recently delayed to at least 2025. There’s also a new multiplayer game based on Guerrilla Games’ Horizon franchise; an “online co-op combat game set in a fantasy London” from PlayStation’s London Studios; Fairgame$, the “AAA multiplayer experience”/heist game from Jade Raymond’s Haven Studios; and Concord, from Firewalk Studios.
Since the live-service thing was definitely Jim Ryan long term plan, I can see most of these games getting shitcanned one by one, with maybe the exception of Marathon.

The game came out at the worst time and under the worst conditions. The game was developed without much care from Sony. Any guest they wanted the small studio personally had to ask for, this included Sony's own development studios. Sony would not help them acquire any rights, so convincing big entities to give up characters to a no-name was a daunting task.

Otherwise:
  • Sony lost the rights to Crash or Spyro. At the time Activision had Skylanders and would have a mass upcharge to get the IP, so it was not feasible given the budget. Should also add that they would have killed it anyway as you know Activision would demand the Skylanders design for Spyro.
  • Square wouldn't even trust Nintendo with their IP fully till 2020, no chance in hell for Superbot to get FF or Tomb Raider.
  • Dante and Raiden were clear marketing picks based on DMC Reboot and Metal Gear Rising. The promotion was the sole reason they were even able to make it. Big Daddy was another marketing pick as Bioshock was planned for the Vita around that time.
  • Not mentioned, but Shadow of Colossus and Ico were snubbed due to the creator having issues with Sony and forbidding the team from using the IP over some fights behind the scenes.

I'm sure it wasn't easy, but really, Big Daddy? I had to look at the list to remember the nobody cast. The Infamous guy? Killzone guy? Dead Space guy? Starhawk guy?! These are deep, deep fucking cuts. I think their logic was popular game = popular character, prioritizing that over actually visually interesting characters.

It looks like Dart was planned as DLC (RIP), meaning they had the rights to him but prioritized a bunch of generic soldier type characters over him. Same with Kat. I'm sure there was just some good old fashioned mismanagement and bad decisions at play too.

Take it in context of the time period as we are talking 2012 here. Much of the roster was a solid representation of Sony during the 2-3 era and many choices were made off representing the IPs going at the time.

Gravity Rush only came out a few months prior to the game, so who knows how well informed the team was on it. This was an American team, making a game simultaneously to that of a Japanese studio.

Infamous was a major PS3 IP. Cole was more interesting in concept than final game as there was not supposed to be 2 Coles. There would be a good/evil mechanic that would make him a more interesting fighter and more inline with his game, but it was scrapped for being too ambitious to pull off.

Radec was the only character from Killzone that anyone cared about. His play style added a zoner to the roster as he was a sniper type. Killzone was also an ongoing IP even into the PS4, so I doubt they couldn’t include it.

Sony seemingly became more involved with DLC, leading to many marketing picks. Ironically, Kat was likely a marketing mandate alongside StarHawk and Dead Space. The team wanted Dart, but DLC didn’t sell enough for Sony to finance. Also, before someone says gotcha to Sony’s lame picks, the actual reason it didn’t sell was because they made it free for a brief period for some idiotic reason.

PS All-Stars was the game that never was. It was a great representation of the PS2-3 era, but nothing more. Honestly feel bad for the team as everything was working against them, yet they clearly had a passion for the project.

Lmao, Bvlgari isn’t even a real watch company, but I’m sure it won’t stop some retard boomer from “investing” in one.

(Bvlgari, like Armani and Hugo Boss, and a few other fashion brands have fuck all to do with the watches, but basically license out their brand to this other company that actually designs them and makes them. Usually shoving in some cheap ass Chinese quartz crap inside. I believe it’s Fossil that actually makes them?)

Watch sperging, sorry!

True. Ironically, why Xbox is getting all the “big exclusives” like Starfield, the console itself is still doing terribly and sells way less than PlayStation.

Imagine having some of the most anticipated games on your console and still getting fucked by Sony.

Maybe time for weirdo beard man over at Microsoft to take a hike?
Iirc, last quarter was the first time in fuck knows when that Xbox actually began to outsell Playstation.

Also xbox player numbers, from what I understand, have been on a serious rise, while Playstation hasn't increased nearly as much. I remember early on in the ps4's life, active PSN users were something like double the TOTAL number of live users. Whereas now the numbers are super close.

I have to assume gamepass plays a role in this. But I'm noticing the xbox be the console of choice for more and more people in general. My best friend is a diehard ps guy (like I was) and showing him all the ps2/3 era titles on the xbone for $5 really sold him

Reality right now is this - if you're a normal functioning adult who just wants to come home and sit down and game, play some solid titles with variety, Xbox is absolutely your answer. That's not discounting the PC, but the Xbox is the best plug and play solution. A $400 Xbox and a year of Gamepass ult, and you've got yourself more content than you know what to do with, and it's PRETTY GOOD at that.

I'm convinced that a huge part of sony's current market rn is getting these people to buy a Playstation and then making them think that with the Playstation, they're getting some sort of EXPERIENCE, and if it seems grindy or fucky or something, no its not bad design, that's the EXPERIENCE

Consoles will always have relevance because there's a solid chunk of the population that has ZERO desire to ever figure out how a PC works or like you said, they just want to come home after work and chill. They want to buy a new game, put it in, and then hopefully have it ready to play after they've done a few chores around the house, they don't want to sit on a computer for an hour trying to optimize performance for their rig.

Valve is changing that. If Steam Deck 2 is even more popular and streamlined then Sony & Microsoft are in deep shit down the line. Sony moreso as Microsoft is pivoting to services as their primary focus, whereas Sony is stumbling along behind.

I think aggressive pricing has to also do with it. Sony went and jacked up the price of the PS5 when you should be discounting it over time. Meanwhile, I've seen promotions for
the Series X for $400, even $350 once.

This is kinda me.
Besides, the only games I really prefer on PC are FPS, everything else id rather play on a console.
