Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I'm mixed on this. Feels more like Gameplay and Story are the two pillars of a game that define it
it is easier to make Gameplay carry a game than story though.

Like Mario and Kirby games are pretty light on story but the gameplay is polished and well done enough that not having a story is forgivable.

What on God's green earth did BoTW steal from Dark Souls? Dark Souls didn't invent weapon durability. BoTW doesn't have bon-fires, doesn't have the same type of progression, doesn't have the same type of combat and doesn't have stats.

Hell, if you want to say it's a combat thing then you'd be stupid not to point out that Dark Souls is extremely inspired by Ocarina of Time and it's combat.

Another treat for the eyes.
Come on lol. I agree with the rest but this one...just look at this TV static ass game.

I think Nintendo's popularity comes from a combination of nostalgia and them always releasing games of at least mediocre quality or better. When you consider how bad and inconsistent every other company is, Nintendo looks good by comparison, even if they're assholes.
Nintendo is arguably at its worst with Switch in terms of original 1st party output (but still good), and it's still leagues ahead of the pack, they should be thanking the "competition" for being being so damn bad.

More in the decayed empty world atmosphere though I guess it's not so new to Zelda.

In an ideal world, anyone who claims to have spent more than $100 on LoL or DOTA under the premise of "It's a free game so I wanted to support the developers" needs to be chained to a post and shot.

I will never understand this logic. I've thousands of hours in Factorio or Rimworld or Minecraft or Terraria and not once have I thought "Man this is good value, I wish I could donate more money to a company for no reason"

In the case of games like Rimworld, I'll buy the DLCs/Expansions if I like the game enough and if said DLCs/Expansions are worth the money. But giving your money away in the form of microtransactions is stupid.

I don't mind that the interactive movie genre of gaming exists; I wish that it should not limit gameplay or traversal. Imagine a Barbara Stanwyck or Joan Crawford film that you can interact with AS her respective role.
No

Don't let your emotions overtake you and admit through facts and merit that games, especially modern ones, are shittier than older games aa far as a decade ago.

Microtransactions are predatory and addictive, I'm not sure why they're not regulated like gambling, if not moreso.
I imagine because with most microtransactions, you KNOW what you're getting. The video game industry needs to regulate itself properly with such practices. With today's free market of video games, it's up to the consumers to act accordingly.

The snowboarding/skateboarding genre peaked at SSX/Skate. Nothing else will come close.

I've seen this picture being spread in Starfield circles.

I'm just gonna say, this is Kiwifarms game subforum. Am I alone in feeling like people really shouldn't be coming here expecting people NOT to be shitting on games?

Gacha mechanics are becoming increasingly common, even in non-mobile games, so I don't know about that.

For sure, but that's not affecting how much im enjoying my modern game in any way
What game?

used to spend stupid amounts of money on LoL skins, since I liked how they looked and simply wanted something cool to look at whilst playing certain champions

I no longer play LoL, best financial decision I've made in the past decade

You probably didn't buy skins for the purpose of funneling money to Riot as a token of appreciation though.
I've spent money on Dota items. I never did it because I thought Valve needed the money or to pump up the TI prize pool explicitly. I did it because like you, I wanted the cool stuff. Something I'd like to do sooner rather than later is sell what I can on the market before Dota dies as I don't play much at all anymore.
