Western Animation - Discuss American, Canadian, and European cartoons here (or just bitch about wokeshit, I guess)

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
They're pulling the bullshit STRONK WHAMMEN WHO DON'T NEED NO MAN shit to girls at an age where they want a Prince Charming and even though every super popular Disney-tier movie that has actually succeeded in the last 20 years has in fact been classic Disney Princess shit.
Especially in a world where bullshit like MeToo has been a thing.

DreamWorks Animation’s ‘The Wild Robot’ To Bring Life To Early Fall 2024 Box Office
The movie follows the epic journey of a robot—ROZZUM unit 7134, “Roz” for short — that is shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and must learn to adapt to the harsh surroundings, gradually building relationships with the animals on the island and becoming the adoptive parent of an orphaned gosling.
That...actually sounds like an interesting premise, if put in the right hands.
The Wild Robot is directed by three-time Oscar nominee Chris Sanders

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOO HE FINALLY GOT TO DO THE TYPE OF STORY HE'S BEEN WANTING TO TACKLE SINCE HIS DAYS AT DISNEY

I'm happy Chris Sanders is still happy enough to continue working at DreamWorks. If he pulls off a WALL-E for DreamWorks (in terms of little to no dialogue), he'll officially be among the greats of animation.
It could go either way. It could be like WALL-E if Sanders and his crew can commit to a rarely dialogue movie with outstanding animation, or it could be like Blue Sky's Robots with only having outstanding visuals but also with great character dynamic and writing.

At any rate, I have very high hopes for this new project from Chris Sanders. He is an amazing person working in the industry and I'm hoping he can still commit like he did with Lilo & Stitch and HTTYD

On his show The Last Drive-In, the Drive-In Movie Critic Joe-Bob Briggs recently hosted showings of two animated films, Phil Tippett's stop-motion project Mad God and Satoishi Kon's Perfect Blue. And since I don't have a handy clip to post, I'll transcribe some, but his opening monologue for Blue has some questions and criticisms that the Animation Is Cinema crowd would never ask but are plainly obvious to a normal guy who just enjoys and evaluates movies as movies, animated or not.

There has been only one Japanese movie that ever won the Best Animation Oscar -- But really, shouldn't Japan own that category? Over here we just have -- We have Disney, we have Dreamworks, we have Pixar, a few smaller players...But really, don't Disney and Dreamworks and Pixar all work together? Isn't it a revolving door for the animators? Isn't their stuff interchangeable? And isn't most of it for children?

Every single person who worked on this needs to have their hard drive scanned, post haste.
Just the fact that YouTube is continuing to do this with a kids show creator having him use the word “P” to subtly describe police as pigs is enough to seriously question parents as to why they leave their iPads and/or smart TVs unaccompanied with only kids using them.

Because they want their cake and eat it too. Parents now-a-days want the title of parent without the responsibilities of one. The new thing now is to dump the children to the grandparents and have the kids be raised by them instead of the actual parent while they dictate to the grandparents what their child that they don't spend time with is and isn't allowed to watch. I have family members that do this same stupid shit. I have neighbors in my block that have to go through with their kids pulling the same shit on them. It's an epidemic at this point. Back in the day, the grandparents were only like a "once a week/month visit" type deal... now they practically ARE the parents.

These same parents are also glued to TikTok and all the other typical social media apps on their phone. Not making accusations regarding correlation and causation, just stating something interesting.

Interesting how it is that newfangled thing in USA, but soviet people relied on "grandparenting" so much, there is a culture shock now that grandparents wanna do their own thing and not babysit.
But it is part due to those gramps asking for a grandkid, promising help, then nevet delivering.

What is with Netflix and perverted content about kids. I second the idea of putting the people responsible for this on an FBI watchlist.
Late Gen-Xers and millennials becoming parents have always been a mistake

Unfortunately, with us moving toward a Soviet style economy, both parents usually have to work now, so they can't raise their kids properly even if they want to.

Unless someone does something about it by the end of 2024, this country is doomed
