You laugh, but metaphysically speaking, we've reached the point where the very nature of our being is being forced upon us by an ideologically-possessed group of lunatics. It basically boils down to this: either we are male and female by virtue of our very essence, this is an absolute reality that cannot be changed, or we are male and female by virtue of our whims and desires, this is relative and can be changed at any time and by any means. The former is intrinsically linked to the idea of being created, and created things have a purpose or function (essentialism), the latter is man-made, nothing really exists as a thing, things are only what we say they are (nominalism).
