I was a big old EU guy growing up during the prequels I followed lots of it, when Disney ended the EU I read literally all of it over a year or two. Their new universe sucked ass but even if it was good the generation of fans that came with it would have shit it up for me anyways. I'm glad we're getting lots of those movies again but I'm starting to miss when it seemed like me and a couple of my friends were the only people irl I knew who cared and it was people my dads age who sperged online about it and it was just shit like gidrah, gidorah, or monster zero being the correct nomenclature. Superheroes & Star Wars is also being actually made by these types of people so even the media itself is terrible. games I'm kinda lucky because I'm always a gen or 2 behind because I'm into console modding and will fuck around with a whole gens library but in the few modern games I do play I have been seeing signs of all the woke bullshit. so since I was in middle school I've went to the same comic book store once a month. I've consistently bought every Superman & Justice League book plus their ancillary titles (supergirl/boy/JL side teams/related in universe and out miniseries etc) along with a few random vertigo books, and Captain America & The Hulk. now captain america has sucked since brubaker left and during Coates run I finally dropped it. Hulk I even also bought it's spin offs and it sucked for years and I was planning on dropping it but didn't and Immortal Hulk came out and I liked it quite a bit so I stayed on. I kept buying Superman because I couldn't bring myself to quit I've been reading it monthly despite quality since I could read. the same fucking guy has worked there since I was 12, the dude has known me over half of my life. We weren't "friends" but friendly, bullshitted about comics, etc. In recent years based on his appearance and recommendations I knew he was an SJW type guy but I don't care about anyone's personal life just sell me my fuckin waste of paper once a month. couple years ago Superman's son came out as gay and took over a title. frankly I didn't care he's gay but the book is horrible and was finally the straw that broke I read that shit for cosmic action not gay romance or superman vs global warming it's why I read justice league over teen titans I don't give a fuck about personal drama I want giant threats and dudes punching shit. D&D is basically at the point of ruination for me, unless I'm with a good group that doesn't let politics or sjw shit in. I've legitimately been thinking of joining old school first edition online games to try and avoid "you're prepping for Prom" garbage I've gotten the last 2 attempts. It really sucks because 5th edition was a nice blending for me of things I enjoyed from 2nd and 3rd edition.

Comics are another one. Both Marvel and DC have shot themselves in the dick the last 5 years. The only time I actually buy anything is when DC puts out an omnibus of old classic work. (Just picked up the Batman Adventures Omnibus, aka the comic version of BTAS. Highly recommended.) Story quality has shit the bed and general art quality on a lot of books is right out of the worst ameatur webcomics now. Nevermind everything is so decompressed and must be 5-6 issues long arcs for future trade collection.

Video Games: the sjw/woke shit has wormed its way in. Stuff like the Last of Us Part 2 now openly attempts to go back in time and destroy even more recent solid works. We've gotten to the point where characters are intentionally made to appear ugly as sin. (The new Fable and MJ in Spiderman 2 being standouts.) Female archtypes like femme fatal are now either pure coomer bait or banned altogether.

I’m fairly well-versed in the shitty lore, play the video games (why, Darktide, why?), and now that I’m not poor, I wanted to get back into the tabletop game since I didn’t need to rely on using a friend’s army. There are a few hobby shops littered around the city, so I decided to hit one up this past Sunday after doing some research.

Fuck this fanbase though. Seriously. The absolute worst.

I decided to go this day because there was a 40k tournament going on, I figured I could watch and try to come to grips with the new, stupid rules. I’m not your average comic book guy or someone you’d see in a hobby shop, so I started receiving weird stares as soon as I walked in. These dudes stopped everything they were doing for a good 30 seconds, including speaking, to look at me. At this point, I’m not sure if I’m allowed to be there so I head to the unmanned front counter.

After a solid three minutes, which felt like an eternity, an absolute sea lion of a man waddles up to me and asks how he can help. I asked him if I was allowed to be in the store today, and if it was cool if I watched and bought some 40k minis. This guy was the human embodiment of the WELL ACKSHUALLY meme and started quizzing me on 40k stuff - my favorite chapter, etc. He wasn’t doing it because he was curious, he was trying to make some sort of statement which was unknown to me. I didn’t answer him, I just opted to leave.

As the door closed, I turned back around and the sea lion man had returned to his people, indistinguishable from the masses gathered around the tables and dioramas.

I was trying to do my part and support the local business, but it’s fine. I can order directly from Games Workshop or Amazon too. Fucking tabletop nerds.

Probably a made up story but if an out of place guy turns up on tournament day and asks to watch he's going to be suspicious. If you're a regular turning up to a tournament without playing you will get the cold shoulder for the most part. Go to a game night instead.

Boy, have I got news for you. Death metal seems far less worse off that black metal, the black metal scene is absolutely infested with weirdo identity politics and hyper-politicization. Of course, this is mainly concentrated in large cities. The bay area and most of the east coast scenes are really awful, full of "uhm yikeroonies that's problematic sweaty" types who will handwring and throw temper tantrums at anything that even slightly rubs them wrong. I've been involved in a handful of different geographical scenes, the best one I participated in was in the south-west, all the others were full of alarmists and weirdos. Only downside for the SW is there are a lot of natsoc/NSBM types who are way too militant and insist on saying "nigger" every other word. The irony is that most of these kinds of people are Mexican. I went to a show once just to check it out and I was the only white person there, but everybody was sieg heiling and carrying on.

A lot of the overall rot is due to the internet, the extreme metal online scene is small and full of self-important, talentless weirdos who get off on gatekeeping the most stupid shit. There's exceptions, but for the most part people like Jon Rosenthal and Kim Kelly are a net detriment. Don't even get me started on "influencers."

On the flipside, the tranny epidemic isn't as pronounced as it could be. There's a lot out there, but the scene in general is pretty vigilant when it comes to ousting egregious sexpests, which is probably the only time I'm in favour of scene policing.

I've totally checked out of participating in any music scene, though. It's exhausting and I don't miss it.
