I’ve said this before in another thread, but as a Libyan, I find the idea of woke ass Americans sperging about the Confederates being traitors uniquely hilarious. America was literally built on treachery. The Confederates were arguably more American in principle than the Unionists, because what’s more American than telling an oppressive government to fuck off? From the perspective of a foreigner the unionists look exceptionally retarded when they wanted to piss and cry about traitors despite the fact that their grandparents were traitors too.r/Presidents is the shittiest sub I've ever decided to look at. You don't find as much Trump sperging as you might expect, but they fellate Lincoln and Grant constantly for "killing the traitors' while hating Woodrow Wilson for the wrong reasons.
So they are your typical redditors with an extremely unuanced view of the Civil War and Reconstruction Period. I saw one fucking retard talking about how much of a chad Grant was for forcing the Confederates to surrender when it was Lee who made the choice to surrender his army and sit down with his old colleague. Wonder how they'd react if you ever told them about old General Longstreet, a 'traitor' who Grant forced Congress to accept in his administration.
It only works if you ignore the entire first century of American history and pretend that the only treachery that counts is when you disagree with me politically lol. Even then the amount of mental gymnastics required is astonishing. It makes liberal minded Americans look hypocritical at best, intellectually stunted at worst.
