An alcoholic's first relationship with sobriety is entirely relative.
If addiction was purely physical, detox would be the only thing needed. But it isn’t, and it’s not.

It would be dangerous for Nick to stop drinking cold turkey at this point, without medical supervision, considering his high rate of daily consumption.

Not that he’d ever attempt to do so, of course.

He is going for a sober January. TAKING ALL BETS
I guess his wife saw the clip where he claimed he would stop drinking if she asked him to. And I bet it feels like a piece of cake to go sober when you're drunk. Just like it feels easy to quit smoking when you've just had a cigarette or start dieting when you've just gorged yourself on a dozen donuts. Let's see how easy it is for Balldo Man when he has slept it off and the craving hits him like a freight train. Let's hope for his sake that he hasn't been drinking long enough to develop a physical dependency. Sure would be a shame if he gets the shakes...

He's already been doing that on stream, whether from withdrawal because he's not drunk yet, or some as yet unknown cause. He's also been denying he shakes "that much," but he also denies drinking much and that he just likes the taste. That's not going to get better. Eventually he'll be like the protagonist at the beginning of Leaving Las Vegas at the beginning, shaking so badly in the morning he had to go have a drink and come back to the bank after being unable to sign his name.

He said he is doing “dry January” after being inspired by Cecil who does it every year as like a New Year’s resolution / fresh start for a new year type of thing. Nick kind of glossed over the specifics. And he said he would “try it out, see how it goes, how the shows go and stuff”. More of a tentative plan than a concrete one but he said it with confidence as if it will be easy and is as good as done.

Also he only did have one drink tonight. (Because he drank way too much last night, doesn’t recall the show but was ill at 5pm today & still not feeling great) Was very twitchy, moving too much, distracted, show was painfully boring.

1000 funny monies on him not lasting a week.

Unrelated but also late and gay: I just watched the @elb clip of rickets drunksplaining the interwebs and dear god the addict cope.
>booze is one of the substances that probably won't kill you unless you're driving
>I wanted to be drunk it's GREAT!
Alright Nick you're DEFINITELY not killing your liver, sober people always talk about their liver numbers

What else can be said?

He could be also hoping for a tolerance reset, if the starving himself and drinking on an empty stomach isn’t doing it for him anymore.

More likely he got a really good telling off and feels ashamed, plus a killer hangover that the hair of the dog hadn’t shaken before he decided to announce the old classic fix, “I’m never drinking again!”

Nick can't stay sober, he may not drink on stream but if he does good luck!
Maybe a sober nick will become less of a bitch, and he will go back to streaming trials like he used to.
I don't think he's going to recoup his older audience the damage is done.
