I don't know about Joe. Maybe he just likes it. It would certainly be a better reason for doing it than staking your entire future on it being a guaranteed source of income. He doesn't seem particularly unwatchable.

There are a lot of "LawTubers" like this, who probably don't make an enormous amount of money from the streaming itself. Leonard French would be a good example. He's interesting content if you're specifically interested in IP law itself or a specific case, but he's never going to draw an enormous audience.

I suppose one possibility is it's a good advertisement for your actual practice if you have one. If I had to deal with IP bullshit in French's neck of the woods he'd definitely be the first person I'd call, if even just for a referral to someone else if I had price issues.

I spent some time watching French a few years ago. He's smart and knows his field. I couldn't take it for very long though, because I fucking hate people who spend a whole hour reading a document when I could read the damn thing myself in five minutes.

I used to watch Viva and Barnes. At some point during Covid, Viva started leaning heavily into his brand and became too predictable for me. And I feel temperamenal affinity with him, if such a thing exists.

He's the only one I think would be interesting to hang out with.
