Alcoholism just makes him stupid and more confrontational. But just drinking doesn't get you catfished by MANdy, if anything you would be less likely to be catfished as you'd get Whiskey Dick. To be honest Rakieta hasn't done anything that Lolcow worthy this year. It's just that it has taken a full year for his downfall from the previous year to finally affect him. There is a great deal of satisfaction of watching a man that spent a year running his life and then calling those who point it out retarded prudes get his comeuppance. His drinking and drug abuse are clearly physically affecting him, everyone who knows him now also knows his degeneracy, his once great reputation is now just a laughing stock, his fake friends smell blood in the water and are starting to attack him, he contradicts himself from one day to the other. And that's just the stuff that has slipped and is easy to see. His personal life is even more fucked and with his swiss cheese brain he is bound to let it slip how fucked it is as well.

Something leads you to become an alcoholic to begin with, you use it to cope, it initially helps you feel better, then it stops helping and starts damaging you as you continue to chase that initial relief from the first week, month, year, however long it made you feel better for. It's just one way of many that your dysfunctions can manifest. My mother was an alcoholic and it taught me that people have innate traits and characteristics that are incredibly difficult to change. She was incapable of changing. Let's hope Rekieta isn't.

Someone 20 or 30 pages back said that this is starting to feel like it could suddenly swerve into horrorcow territory at any time and I agree with that, it's unnerving.

On the off chance Rekeita reads my post, let me say this. Nick, I'm an asshole. I've made fun of you in this thread and might continue to do so because I'm no saint. However, I don't actually want to watch you completely destroy your and your children's lives. You've fucked up a lot and done a lot of damage, but you can still pull up and avoid disaster if you could just manage to summon up a little bit of humility and admit to yourself that you started going down the wrong path a while back. I've had to do the same in my life and a lot of other people have had to as well. People would respect you a lot more if you could admit to your faults. If you want to humiliate yourself and possibly ruin your children's lives, then keep going as you are. I hope you save yourself in the end, genuinely. It'd be a more encouraging outcome.

It's hard to know, because the alcohol abuse isn't the beginning and end of his problems. He drinks for a reason, and it's likely those reasons reached far beyond physical dependency.

I would estimate that 80% of his problems would go away naturally if he stopped drinking. The remaining 20% would be the issues he has with sticking power.

So yeah, probably a pretty good amount.

I actually have a hypothesis that he's depressed because of this thread, but it has nothing to do with what's being said, rather he's upset that it moves too fast for him to read and to follow.

He's come a long way from logging on once a day, reading comments like, "this guest was really funny," or, "I loved the stream today!" and coming back to a small trickle of comments by the next time he has to use the toilet.

I think he's depressed because the thread is too fast for him to read, and reading the thread (no matter how negative it was) gave him some sense of control. Now that his ability to read the thread in real time is gone, he's lost his (false) sense of control. Lost control of the narrative, of his own life, everything.

I'm also going to float the idea that he could have untreated Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (why does he always have to lick the bottle?) and not being able to follow his thread has triggered an otherwise dormant case of OCD that is now messing up his life, but he doesn't know what it is or why it has become a problem. All he knows is that he's frustrated.
