You're telling me. I've been banned from
every 40k related discord I've ever joined for sharing .stl files.
People aren't afraid of GW shutting them down. It's pure white knighting for a corporation. I always run into 1 of 2 types;
1 - 3D printing is theft. You're taking food out of the mouths of store owners and employees. If you don't spend over $1,000 on your plastic army, GW is going to go out of business and the hobby will be ruined for everyone. Really reminds me of the gatekeepers in the short wave radio community that don't think you should be allowed to broadcast if you own a cheap radio.
2 - They're a 3D modeler that makes a profit stealing GW's IP and reselling it. THEY aren't stealing from GW because GW is a big evil corporation, and it's not stealing due to some commie reasoning. They don't care if you trade 1:1 versions of GW's models, but if you take one of the models that they very slightly modified and started selling, you're stealing food out of a poor content creators mouth. You're punching down, attacking poor people, etc. and all the other progressive "it's only stealing if you steal from me" bullshit.
My usual experience in a new discord group.
- kick in door
- drop every 40k .stl file currently known to man for free
- refuse to elaborate
- get banned
It sucks because I have no home to talk about tactics or army building, but I think of myself like a Johnny Appleseed of 3d printing piracy. Every time I sew my seeds, there's a pretty good chance someone takes those files and distributes them for free elsewhere. I can't distribute the files to everyone, but I can create more people like me that just want people to be able to enjoy the hobby without refinancing their mortgages.
