Starship Repo/Gate Crashers were books 1 and 2 in a trilogy ripping off Douglas Adams - either Tor told him to give up or he got desperate because In The Black is the beginning of another series. There's an interview with him where he says he wanted to do FIVE books in that series, he thought it would be a hit. (It's a direct ripoff of The Expanse).

The "half written" thing is so strange considering that he spent two years finishing Tiny Tim 2. You'd think he would have been better off working on the Tor books and begging them to take him back.
