It's funny how untrue this is, given you make actual content and not just stream, make highlight comps and "collab" with other vtubers. I watch a bunch of ex-Vine 'comedians' and theyll just make a video about a fucking xmas movie, get 900k views and sit at 2-3m subs, most of whom are probably facebook moms..

Either way: There has to be a name for this kind of vtubing. The whole "autistic mansperg in a tuxedo vest, appealing to korean/japanese media tropes". It's as if everything the internet at large considers cringe, ie. looking like a literal m'lady "gentleman" is suddenly a-okay and super hot if it's on a weeb 3D figure. I guess it's just way too on the nose for me in terms of "hey we can be anything: let's once-again appeal to weebs".

TLDR - It's like the anime avatar version of catfishing but instead of appealing to desperate, ugly, fat women on dating sites they appeal to fujoshi (yaoi fangirls) brainrot tumblrina types.
Bishounen, or pretty anime boys, are a hot market and always have been but in the original Japanese scene the market is usually two types of women - the fujoshi with yaoi/boys love, men loving men written by women for women, and the women who read josei/shojou manga, typically romance oriented storylines aimed at adult/young adult women or girls with a self-insertable main character or a well-written female character opposite to a perfect dreamboat of a male lead.
Suits and formal wear isn't seen as extremely cringeworthy because it's part and parcel of romance stories for women - a strapping young heir meets the female main character, yada yada cartoon bodice ripper without softcore porn.
The biggest difference between Japanese fanbase and the western fanbase is that the Japanese women tend to enjoy their content in relative peace and quiet, same as most other Japanese people who read manga on a daily basis. Not saying there aren't any rabid fangirls, there are and they're just as creepy as their male idol otaku counterparts (they just hide it better than the man who jacks off into his hand before a handshake event).

Also, don't discredit the weebs. Like the furries, many weebs funnel almost all of their income into their favourite thing. Furries commission weird niche porn of their fursonas, weebs invest in plastic girls in bunnysuits and vtuber watchers spend money on superchats in the hopes of their waifu/husbando directing their attention to them for a few seconds.
It's quite the lucrative market, too, if you can establish an audience.

Thing is that Fredrik is none of those things and he's extremely boring and unfuckable - with or without a vtuber avatar.
I get that this is a phenomenon aimed at kids and young adults, but I genuinely think that Fredrik is in it for his own personal fetishes(like having an excuse to get really gay with other male vtubers). Same as him REALLY getting into his owl fursona as he embraced his furry side

For a large portion of this stream they watched a video Fred picked out called "CAT MEN DO! - But ONLY the plot" which is apparently a gay porn. Why do so many animators end up being super degenerate? Is there a psychological reason?

Artists need people as much as people need artists. Why even DO art if nobody is around to view it? It's a mutually beneficial relationship for both parties. But if an audience has vocal degenerates and the artist gives them time of day, overtime the artist subconsciously develops more deviant ideas.

Not even that. If they open a patreon for instance, then they slowly have to comply with requests that get more and more lewd and over time not only does their art change, the body proportions of characters drawn change as well, bigger bust, wider hips.
I've seen an artist who used to draw simple couple drawings open a patreon with two OC he created, then I check a year later and he's drawing futa.

And people wonder why I don't draw porn, and even generally shy away from "risque" shit. Looking porn already does a bit of brain rot, but that's recoverable.

Art is the fuel of internet relevancy. I've seen so many communities and Discords completely forget about their regulars, moderators, and event planner type folk cause an artist showed up "UwU here's my sketch". Vtubing is the same copy-paste shit slop and instead of a single piece of art, there's the artist, the rigger, the animator, the user, and then every 6 months you get to make a new one and call it a DEBUT STREAM. It's a form basically manufactured to generate as much hype and involvement as possible.

And it pays better than a 10mil youtube vid.

Influencer animators or just like Disney guys? Former, in my opinion, are caught up in very bad retard sinking cycle. It is not always true, but spending 90% of the time on dumb drawings and 10% talking to discord kittens can make even normal person suicidal lolicon addicted gooner.
As for the latter they range from boring 9to5 with kids people to plain crazy nolifers, sexual deviations included.
