I think the two on them talking about "karma" is their way of coming to the realization that they are stuck with the past. They probably thought they could pivot away from edgy videos and disavow them and get a clean start, but now they're realizing that if someone else tried that the people Ian and Anissa are trying to court wouldn't "forgive" them and the offenders would be persona non grata in their circle in perpetuity.
