Radon doesn't contribute that much to the ambient radiation, and that's not how it harms you anyway. The problem with radon is it's easily inhaled and not stopped with a mask (unlike incidentally radioactive elements in dust). I doubt you'd have much of a problem occasionally inhaling more than usual, since there's a certain amount in air, even outdoors. It's inhaling elevated amounts of it for extended periods of time that's the problem.Hmm, it looks like he's using a normal geiger counter. I'm not sure it's going to tell him much about radon specifically, just general radiation.
