Lowtax sat and watched his website turn into little fiefdoms he had no control over because he was too lazy to do anything about it. What you're seeing is the opposite. I've demodded all the mods for the board because at least one wants to create a splinter site. It's hard to trust people to take care of something that they don't like. I'll look into moderation later but right now there's no point.
Is that why you're overreacting? Because you don't want to end up like Lowtax? Dude, to be like Lowtax you actually have to work at being that fucked. Also removing the moderation team is a bit silly, right? If the subforum has the issues you upset about, you're just pushing that problem onto your global mods and yourself for the time being therefore adding onto your problems. Given your tone on this (perceived or otherwise) you don't want DSP regulars to be around anymore, why wouldn't the mod want to get us out of your hair? Sounds like the mod was trying to do you a solid.
I have put forward an enormous amount of effort to keep this site up and together for over a decade. It's hard to put into words exactly how much I've given up to try and give everyone a space to talk about people that might get suppressed or meddled with on any other platform. There's a reason why this site stays active despite Twitter and Discord existing and despite having an uptime of about 50% in 2023.
It is very insulting how many of you just openly resent the forum. You very obviously hate me, you hate the very few rules that I have in place, and even the mods jump at the opportunity to splinter the community. Usually the mods I pick are very motivated to grow and develop their interests on the site, so it's a painful realization that the people here are actively working against it.
I feel comfortable saying no regular to the DSP subforum, hell no one on the site, is debating you have sacrificed a lot to keep the forum running, that is clear from your weekly therapy sessions and as a professional in the field I understand how stressful even a fraction of owning your own hardware and keeping it running can be, I cannot imagine adding on the crazies. I also feel comfortable saying no regular hates the Kiwifarms, what they take issue with is you. The owner of the site feels that you, personally, are adding to the issues his site faces and then shows it in a negative fashion. How are we supposed to take that, the ones that come to the forum, giggle at a greasy e-begger and move on?
It's also a painful realization to see that even users who have been here for 6+ years don't really consider themselves a part of a broader community. It's just this board, and they post here because they hate one dude. It doesn't seem to be about anything other than making sure that DSP is not happy. I feel like I've allowed myself and my patience to be used, and I've allowed something I've worked very hard to sustain and sacrificed a lot to protect to be used and abused by people who have zero love for it.
How can you have a community when no one is themselves? This is a forum where you require people to be anonymous as much as possible. We are essentially strangers, unless we congregate outside of Kiwifarms. We come to Kiwifarms to laugh at least one person and move on. I understand there are other subforums on the site that are more general and non-lolcow related. Hell, I know there is a thread about guns and as an avid gun nut myself, I'd love to post in it and show off some of my firearms! But this is the Kiwifarms, I need to remember that all kinds of crazies exist (and likely some FEDs) on it that want to destroy the site or the users on it in anyway possible, so I don't.
That is the Kiwifarms. This is the community you fostered.
I am very grateful for the new users from Fishtank and BMJ. It's a breath of fresh air to see people who just want to watch trash TV on the Internet and throw popcorn at the screen together. It's so refreshing to see new users joining for areas of the site who are actually new users, and not just Pot of Greed or other retards joining and immediately posting in the DSP board to cause problems again.
New users you no longer allow to post in the DSP subforum, pretty much marking it for death "until you decide what to do with it".
For the future, I'm debating what to do. My goal is still to give people who actually enjoy talking about lolcows a place to post. What I don't want is to continue to allow a clique of people openly hostile to myself and the rest of the site an autonomous zone to exploit my work.
Personal opinion, I think you should scrap it. It's clear you think the people that regularly use the forum are degenerates and people who actively harass Phil, it's not worth your time. Let your former mods take it and deal with the issues. As someone you would likely consider openly hostile to yourself and "exploits" your work, I think you're a faggot with some good takes on the Internet at large, who has taken a lot of hits to keep the only thing he has ever done with his adult life alive. I respect at least a part of that,
