And you can queue stuff, unpause, watch the fights, make adjustments... its nowhere near as obsessively clicky as turn-based games are.
And if you're not shit at scripting you turn a fight that would've taken minutes to do into seconds.

Which is what you, as the fucking leader, should be doing in the first place. Telling your retards what to do beforehand.

Fuck this turn-based faggotry. I tire of this bullshit illusion making a game that takes 5 hours take 40 hours instead.

The amount of work to have an Origins remake reach the bar? It’s a helluva lot more than what I expect NuWare to do
To say nothing of the sheer amount of time it would take for this thing to even come out. What would the dev cycle be like, even for a remake, in today's day and age to modernize and expand Origins? It won't see the light of day for at least ten years. At that point we might have an expansion or another fucking Larian game out that
Sometimes I stop to think that Dragon Age II, an obviously rushed, deeply flawed game set in a claustrophobic little underdeveloped city, came out the same year as fucking Skyrim, and wonder what god is responsible for BioWare still being alive.
Bioware only continues to exist in its bizarre zombie form because of the gay diversity browny points the company generates by merely existing. It is like the dumping ground EA has for every woke pajeet genderqueer faggot in the company, coincidentally why work never gets done until they bring back a member of the old white guard to set the brown lesbians to work.

Mass Effect carried them through the rest of the 360/PS3 era, then Inquisition got them to limp through the PS4 and Xbone series despite flop after flop after flop, though I have no idea how.

Even today I see faggots saying Inquisition is a good game with excellent writing and I have no idea how they could think this.

Hell, the KOTOR games have some remarkably quick and easy to handle combat. Its you and just two party members so "Kreia, you go zap them, Atton shoot them, and I'll just cut them up with my lightsaber" is extremely easy to manage.

Of course, you can always skip Kreia and take the Echani-made all-in-one kitchen appliance known as Handmaiden (it chops, it blends, it slices and dices!) if you don't want to listen to that nag's yapping save for important story moments.

that's what I mean, why can you pause stuff? because it automatically does the things you queued.
there's nothing preventing turn-based games to have a default behavior for it's characters.

that's because turn based and "realtime" (which still runs in turns anyway) are usually designed differently. you can see the effect in the owlcat games when you switch from default combat to turn based - trash mobs you'd normally just roflstomp suddenly take minutes to clear out while still not providing a challenge.
so on top not having any automation in turn based mode (iirc) enemy density isn't scaled to combat duration either. fighting the same amount of trash mobs when combats take longer of course increases the duration as a whole, while not increasing the "weight" of the encounters either.

I don't think turn based is bad at all when you design the game around it and make each encounter meaningful. It wouldn't work at all in Origins though where about 60 percent of the fights are worthless trash battles against rats or zombies.

You know what pisses me off about Dragon Age? By the time Inquisition rolled around the series was no longer a dark fantasy, but just another happy go lucky goofball kitchen sink Forgotten Realms style fantasy setting. I miss when Dragon Age was dark tonally and conceptually, lots of horror elements and terrible things happening that you could either rise above or had to deal with making the best out of a bad scenario.

For fuck's sake, DA:O lets you kill a child while his mother begs you not to murder her boy to stop his demonic possession at one point, and it is considered a cruel but relatively reasonable course of action. The city elf origin starts with you failing to prevent the abduction and rape of your cousin. Just horrible shit.

And the Qun, Sten, going on sexist rants against female PCs and telling them they belong in the kitchen. Just no line Bioware was afraid to cross at the time.

Even II still had some serious darkness to it. What with your mother getting Frankensteined.

Then Inquisition hits and it's all about getting fucked in the ass, hugging your friends, trannies being totally accepted by the Qun that apparently has such rigid gender conformity that the very idea a woman might pick up a sword is baffling to Sten. Leliana is kidnapped and tortured in the bad future but not raped of course, just turned into a weird zombie face woman with evil magic. There is badass strank wahmen everywhere and the Inquisitor can never have a bad boy racist thought. There is a massive demon incursion but the Desire Demons are mysteriously absent because you can't have big tits on a manifestation of human lust for power and carnal satisfaction.

Fucking criminal what happened to this franchise.

Full honesty? I think that, assuming Dread Wolf actually comes out and isn't vapourware after EA finally decides enough is enough from this clownshow of a studio, its going to be far too little, and far too late.

We are, legitimately, a decade this year from the last entry in this series that anyone gave a shit about, and Inquisition was before Bioware had back to back bombs destroy any faith in them being able to put out a quality game. Just that first part alone tells you that people have likely moved on - yeah, there'll be sales, but I sincerely doubt this game is making back its budget.

I legitimately have to wonder if someone at NuWare has blackmail on an EA exec to keep the place open. It's either that or the ESG money from keeping these tards around balances the books, and I sincerely doubt thats the case...

This is the only explanation that makes sense to me. The PR and ESG from keeping the gay RPG company open justifies letting them spin their heels for 10 years rebuilding this game four times.

Granted, two of those scraps were definitely EA's fault but still. A lot like Bethesda, Bioware is in an unprecedented position to lose their death grip on their niche of the RPG market, high production value RPGs with cinematic bend. It used to be you could play low production value RPGs like Pathfinder or fucking Pillars of Eternity, but if you wanted something shiny and normie friendly, Bioware was your only bet. Then Larian dropped a bomb on their heads with BG3, and now they're fucked unless Dread Wolf is beyond good. Which it won't be, because it's made by faggots.

This still won't kill Bioware, just the people who work at it. EA has just been shoveling designers in and out of the company name since they acquired it, almost none of the old guard are left. So I don't think you'll ever see it close, just get put under new management.

Why release a game that gamers can play for 100's of hours, offline, with no MTX, when instead they could be shovelling their hard-earned cash into a cosmetic-skinned gambling machine like Apex.

If ESG is paying to keep the lights on at Bioware, EA are in no rush to release a game that is only a one-off payment.

All of the big, american-based, western-focused gaming companies want their cattle playing always-online MTX games. It's the main reason why RPG's are dead.

This entire franchise is built off the back of one very good opening game. Origins was excellent - well-balanced, challenging, deep in lore and gameplay, engaging strategically and with meaningful choices. It deserved the success it had.

The sequel was just plain bad. Story was middling at best and the gameplay was a poor shadow of its predecessor re-designed for consoles and losing the strategic depth and involving gameplay. It would be a footnote if not for being a sequel.

The backlash to the second one was enough to make them semi-backtrack in Inquisition. This was a better game than the second but still a poor and hobbled copy of the first. Again, the success it had was in significant part based on inherited fans from the first.

The fourth will be no different.

There has been one good game in the entire franchise and that is the first.

I enjoy Inquisition quite a bit, but it's a guilty pleasure. Its problems are glaring, and I've never been able to recommend Dragon Age to anyone past the first game.

Of course the story was middling at best. DA2 was literally one of (if not the) games that starkly showed how fat women ex-fanfic writers were getting jobs writing the storylines. A choice quote:

"Yes! This! You guys have no idea how cute Merrill is. I work here and and I still squee when she says things I haven't heard.

There's a lot of this in the writer pit:

Merrill (in-game): (something unbelievably cute)
Sheryl: GIGGLESQUEE!!!!! SO CUTE!!!
Mary: Hee hee.
Sheryl: She's so adorable I love her and want to hug her omgIcan'tbelievehowadorablesheisCAN-I-NOM-HER-HEAD?!
Mary: ... No."

And here I wondered for years why Merrill's general demeanor clashed so horribly with literally everything else about the character, from her open embrace of demons and blood magic to her clan being fucking terrified of her to it being very likely that you end up massacring said clan. What a disaster.

you mean hamburger helper? fwiw she wrote stuff in DAO and TOR, no one had a problem there.
the chimpout started because she suggest a skip button for combat so people can play it like a VN...

still, as shit as it is guildwars 2 writers beat even the worse of bioware.

I don't think ea will kill bioware because they are like the only ones that make rpgs at ea.

She wrote the Deep Roads, which was so long that many people wish they could skip the combat. It's better than the Fade which has an honest-to-God mod to skip it, but not by much.
also one of the dwarven prologues (can't remember which one), and iirc the smuggler in TOR.
all in all it's more hit or miss than the total shitheap we get these days...

I suspect Dreadwolf is going to make Inquisition look like it deserved all those Game of the Year awards.
The gameplay leaks look like upscale mobile game footage. Downgrade from hack and slash Dragon age inquisition.

I wouldn’t be shocked if EA tells Bioware to re-do dreadwolf to be more like BG3 in terms of gameplay.
