I knew when watching tadakoi I've seen that character before, but I have zero clue how he ended up in a doga kobo romcom anime. didn't find anything on the internet either..
he even shows up as a sniper later, that's way too similar to be a coincidence.

I just watched Gundam SEED CE 73 Stargazer, and I thought it was pretty good in terms of worldbuilding. It has something I wish we had more of in Gundam -- that is, a mobile suit that's not meant for war, but for peaceful purposes and to expand humanity's horizons. Said suit is also a two-seater, which I enjoyed. I also liked that there was also a neutral organization for scientific research which had a mathematician! I wish we had more Gundam stories focusing on science and technological development rather than war and action. The story captured well the idea that even though technology can amplify the atrocities of war, it can also hold hope and the path to a brighter future. The ending was evocative of 0079's ending in that there can also be a hope for peace, but this peace can only be brought about by reaching an understanding with the other side -- something which only comes with lots of desperation. This was helped by the fact that the villain was sympathetic (by the way, the Cosmic Era is super metal with its brainwashing of children into violent soldiers); I liked how his backstory reflected what happens with the titular mobile suit. I'll have to check out the other SEED side stories; ASTRAY is supposed to be quite good.

does anyone have any recs for manga that’s like I am a hero? Admittedly, I don’t really read any manga at all, but I really enjoyed that and like apocalypse kinda stories.

I’ll be willing to give anything a go-maybe anime too if it’s sort of the same. I’m actually watching solo leveling without knowing anything about it and it’s pretty neat so far (sort of-the characterization is sorta iffy, but the story is a neat idea)
I actually saw something interesting all though I'm not sure if it counts as a recommendation since it's unlikely to get a translation because 90% of all scanlators are dumb and won't pick up anything interesting.

Thing is called Salaryman Z, caught my attention because some news account I follow mentioned that the author is an anime screenwriter, although I think his only credit is the recent Blue Giant movie.
Looked at some of the raws and the TLDR is a salaryman and the rest of his company get stuck in a office building when the apocalypse happens. It defiantly seems more serious then something like Zom100 which has a similar setup, which I guess could be another recommendation too but Zom100 is much more of a comedy the I am Hero was and it's kind of in a similar vain to like Shawn of the Dead if anything.
But like I said no translations, so unless your one of they few people who can actually read Japanese, your gonna see first hand how far AI is to actually replacing translators.

If you haven't already, Blame! is a super awesome manga. The movie barely touches the surface of the story. It's a scifi story of a mysterious world, possibly one that a high class civilization built and is starting to crumble. Don't want to say more as the discovery is part of the story.

Anime Japan releases key art that will spotlight what 2024 will have to offer. The event is planned for March 23 and 24. Is there anything you see that you are looking forward to?

I'm hoping they reveal more stuff about Re:Zero season three. When it was first revealed, the light novel artist drew a poster that included a character from arc 6, which is quite different in tone from arc 5 and would definitely call for more than the average length of episodes unless they're trying to fuck up harder than season 2.

The new seasonal anime aren't bad, but goddamnit I can't find one opening song that is good. Apothecary Diaries especially lost an absolutely amazing opening.
That opening was such a goddamn earworm, the new one isn't AWFUL but man they could've kept that one for the whole show and I wouldn't complain.
I still have to watch episode 1. Cygames doing a Super Robot anime after baiting a Real Robot anime like what they did with Akiba Maid War is way too good to pass up.
Plus-Sized Elf will be getting an anime adaptation this year.

Japan must be really trying hard to make elves a thing, with the sheer amount of elf-related anime titles coming out lately.
The first anime Null will watch weekly. I'm glad this is getting an anime though, I just wish somebody would translate the sequel manga.

It's also directed by Obari and written by an Ultraman writer, so it will be good. It looks like it will basically be an SRW anime in that it has realistic military hardware and fantastical alien technology fighting alongside each other. It's got good mechanical designs -- Bravern is heavily inspired by Exkaiser, complete with sword, and I liked the wheeled mecha and the transforming alien saucer beasts. I'm not happy that there's a character who's basically a little girl with really large breasts.

My gf has browbeaten me into watching Attack on Titan with her and holy shit is it the most boring, predictable shit I've ever seen. The pacing is fucking awful, entire stretches of 3-5 episodes of talking and nothing happening. Every episode somebody starts crying. Everyone says "the fights are so well done!!" but they're mostly just a close-up of the character doing flips and shit while a PS2 CG background spins behind them.

There has been some enjoyment but it's been few and far between. We're almost done with season 1 and I'm salivating for it to be over.
