Taking your kid out for a burger once in a while isn't the same as gorging on them for hours a day.
Everything in moderation and Eve Online can't be played in moderation unless you've already done it for a long, long while prior to that. It's also not so much a game as an entire alternative reality with all the trappings I've mentioned.

There's no reason to play that game with your kid, which Foxtrot and his dad aren't doing either as I assume they are both adults.

Bioshock series is overrated and just about everything said in its defence is pure cope. Basically, if you didn't play it at release, your impression was somehow sullied by the game's rippling effects on the industry, thus making it a pedestrian experience when it's supposed to be one of the greatest games of all time.'

I don't think it's a bad game/series. I just wasn't impressed by it all that much. Great aesthetic though, I'll give it that.

There's probably no reason to play much Vidya past the age of 30. It's an arena to explore and play pretend so you know what to do in real life. If you go past that you're either in it professionally or lack something in life. Doesn't mean the occassional game for nostalgia sake or trying out a new hobby virtually is bad but playing games as a hobby probably is.

Kinda struggling with this myself a bit. I know it fills a bit of a void even though I don't want to admit it. One could say it's the same with any hobby. But if you're interested in racing you might as well go for a real car at this point, if you're interested in guns get a real gun, if you're wanting to explore something then explore it. RPG fan? Go RPG trying to get a deal or get a girl or get in somewhere.


Games make everything so much easier and accessible but what they offer is less than the real thing. But I think so about other things too, like people who play chess. Chess was used as an abstraction to teach and expand strategic thinking and prepare people for literal or figurative war. If you take chess seriously it's like taking the abstraction seriously. Instead of applying it to reality you apply it to itself. Its a waste.

Games are just puzzles that have various solutions which require fast reflexes, memorization, creativity, or a deep understanding of the rules of the mechanism. Wrapped around those puzzles you'll find beautiful art, design, music, and writing.

Many multiplayer games are heavily social. People who can succinctly give out clear instructions and fill a leader role will find that, while just as important are team players who can work together for the good of the group. Singleplayer games also have a social element in current year since nearly everyone plays videogames from ages 4 to 40, and there are massive communities all over the internet.

A lot of people seem to feel guilty about liking games when there's no need. Just enjoy them and don't torture yourself over it. If you have another hobby like writing or music production you'll find a lot of inspiration just from playing games. They'll give you casual topics to talk about with normalfags so you don't have to talk about their retarded politics. This ascetic grindset trend has got to stop. You're allowed to take it easy sometimes.

I always get incredibly suspicious when someone claims any game is a game 'for intellectuals'. The only games that might have that claim are puzzle games, but I find even that claim to be suspicious because I never quite bought into the meme that intelligence is tied to your ability to solve brain teasers. I've known too many blue collar guys that are savants at the one thing they do but make basic spelling errors and get a DUI every 3 years to really believe that anymore. The 'Bioshock is le game for intellectuals' remind me of the people that try to convince you that you actually need a pretty high IQ to watch Rick and Morty because they sandwiched a joke about Schrodinger's Cat in between the shit jokes, the fart jokes, and the incest jokes that totally aren't Dan Harmon's secret fetish, no siree.

Just play what the fuck you want to play and don't justify it to yourself or anyone else. The cringiest thing you can do is going into apoplectic fits thinking about what someone else thinks is cringe, and the dumbest thing you can do is attempting to appear smart.

Have you ever played a Sokoban game? They're those block puzzles that go like this:

It's not necessarily a bad game, but by the time it quits being easy, the maps start getting getting huge and time consuming. They're not really a test of your intelligence so as much as they are a test of how much unpaid tedium you're willing to put up with. A lot of puzzle games are made up of lots of simple, repetitive logic that you can practice and get better at in short order. You know, like a fast food employee who makes minimum wage and has to remember how to assemble all the different foods their restaurant makes, and do it right upon each and every order that comes in randomly.
