Another reason the electoral college makes sense is it gave states confidence that, if they joined the Union, their voice in government wouldn't be immediately drowned off, meaning they'd be better off trying to claim their independence. People who cry about the EC and the composition of the Senate need to remember that if they didn't exist, the "United States" would of maybe 7 or 8 of the original 13 colonies, and the rest of this continent would be balkanized.
Things would probably be better if the US balkanized.

...I'd probably be living in the Holy Mormon Empire though.

electoral college is sorta bullshit the way it gives a handful of states the real pick in the presidency, but direct vote would be way more bullshit the way it gives a handful of cities the real pick in the presidency
The electoral college is about to change massively with the next census.
If the GOP weren't 70% controlled opposition, they would have used the pandemic as an excuse to delay the census until AFTER the democrats drove 10-15% of their citizens to flee.

Yep. During the Constitutional Convention Virginia and Georgia were the biggest supporters of proportional representation and Delaware and New Jersey were the biggest opponents of it. Why? More land, more people, more votes, more power. Hell, one of the delegates from Delaware outright threatened that his state would be better off cutting a deal with a European power if they were going to be cut out of decision making in the USA.

As to what happened to bring us to where we are now? Well, the rise of mechanized agriculture and the railroads making massive cities feasible to sustain sustainable completely caught everyone off guard. NYC and the East Coast as a whole wouldn't have gotten close to their current size thanks to the Appalachians geographically isolating them from the entire continent if it wasn't for the Erie Canal and later on the Erie Railroad bypassing that mountain range. Can you imagine NYC and Boston forced to sustain themselves solely on what the East Coast could supply for food?

You literally couldn't because its constitutionally mandated to happen every ten years. And I can already anticipate your response and my rebuttal to that is that smearing even more shit on the Constitution is going to do the exact opposite of help.

>be Donald Trump, the rightful President of the United States
>faggot meatball and a poojeeta with a southern accent spend over $100,000,000 on getting as much support in the Iowa Caucus as possible, backed by undeserved attention from numerous media outlets
>Trump proceeds to literally win over all other candidates combined by a margin of 2 (51%-49%), despite losing Iowa to el rato after a dirty trick on Ben Carson 8 years ago, despite spending a lot less than all other candidates combined. On top of that, the vast majority of that 49% who voted for other candidates will still vote for you in the general against chomo joe in November
>online supporters of faggot meatball try to diminish the spectacular win, saying "half of iowa voted against the incumbent!!!!"
>people point out that by the same logic, 80% of Iowa voted against faggot meatball
>faggot meatball supporter retorts "rodentinass only lost by 30, Trump lost by 50"
>the actual winning candidate supposedly 'lost by 50' despite winning over 50%, a figure that means that it is literally impossible for anyone else to get 50% more than he did

maybe it's some mathematical OCD in me but I haven't been this flabbergasted at something on the internet in a while. There's something about being an online RodentInAss supporter that manages to make them behave in such a way somehow more repulsive than the way libtards behave

You have to remember that people on the internet can be ANYONE.
You could be having a debate with a twelve year old who can't do multiplication because his school has a no-child-left-behind policy. Or the adult that child grew into who got by in life without learning anything.
There gets to be a point that you just need to accept that nothing you say will convince them. Just warn them, back off, then go I-told-you-so when they inevitably get very salty

I know people like to mock Scott Steiner's math skills but this is something else entirely.

Biden isn't gonna end the war. Israel has already stated they want to keep the war going for at least another year. Into 2025. He's fucked.
Well there is a silver lining.

No more aid to Ukraine since zionist right wingers worship Israel hardcore.

Russia better send that shithole back to the grave.

I guess there can be a trade where America can live with Israel annexes more land to become bigger and Russia annexes large parts of Ukraine to become bigger.

Everyone wins.

And the shitlibs and progtards will cope and seethe since they wanted the two state meme to stick it to their dads and Russia to die because they disrespected King Nigger and told the fags to fuck off.

At the time the electoral college was enacted, they were worried about one or 2 cities ruling the entire country.
At that time, the ENTIRE COUNTRY had the population of just one middling US city today.
We not only need the electoral college to preserve liberty, we need the concept expanded to the state and even county levels today.
I've been saying the same thing forever and really wish they would do this.

Being a New Yorker, it's really insane how the heavily dense leftard 4 boroughs (Staten Island is a pretty hardcore red stronghold) end up dictating the politics for the rest of the state which is like 90% red. I mean, it's kind of fucked for liberals in NYC to dictate to people 8 hours away in Buffalo what their politics should be. And the rest of NYS has been complaining about this very thing because it's not just the electoral college but things like how the 4 boroughs end up choosing our politicians and you end up with people like this utterly batshit governor Hochul we have now who's installed by the vote results from the 4 boroughs and yet she dictates policy to people in Buffalo and Rochester which does absolutely nothing for them. Especially since their problems (poverty and lack of business opportunities) have nothing to do with the shit Hochul dictates which is meant to benefit leftards in NYC.

The right to peaceably assemble is also constitutionally mandated.
Tell me again what happened when anyone left their damn house?

Not for long from what I understand, given the whole migrant thing and increasing Asian immigration.
They'll probably be able to hold out for a while though. Staten Island is the bastard child of NYC and get pretty much neglected by it. There's no subway to Staten Island. There's a ferry from Manhattan but there's no easy way to get there unless you drive, which is why they've been able to hold out for as long as they have.

It's also why it's most likely as red as it is - because it's pretty isolated from the other 4 boroughs. And there's tons of Italians, who tend to skew right as it is.

isnt that where all the cops and firefighters live too?

And remind me what happens to both Calvin and Hobbes when they double-down on Calvinball rules?

Oh right, they get in a fight and nobody wins. Which is bad enough in isolation but when you're one country that shares an entire world its devastating. Rome had Calvinball politics and this guy called Attila decided to take advantage of their fucked-up state and said he was God's punishment for their sins.

Bear in mind the average dumbass suburban AWFL has no fucking idea the scale of the illegal invasion.
When polled they think it's under 200k a year.

Marching troops in to "put down texas" would definitely change that quick.

Not surprising, they've been told it was about 30 million for literally decades now, against all evidence. At least, that's the number they always roll out when pushing a 'one-time' amnesty.
I was wondering why "SyphilisDon" was trending, and this is from his appearance in NH last night. Those are golf blisters. And we're to forget when Joepedo's eye turned completely red during the primaries in 2020.

Thtat's really a desperate reach. You know who probably has caught the syph? The First Son, because he's a druggy who fucks whores. Bill Clinton, too, he can't keep his dick in his pants for any amount of time. Out with it, show Hunter's medical records.

This wouldn't even be the worse time to use a government shutdown threat as a weapon to try and acquire leverage since at least it's not holiday season anymore and the election season shenanigans haven't fully kicked into high gear yet.

Republicans always get the blame for shutdowns and there's always scare messages that Social Security and wefare/medicaid will stop.

If people want the effective legislation they want so badly then the propaganda being broadcasted to blame Republicans will just be something to bare if it is done. Obama had one during his eight years in office. Trump had two shutdowns during his administration when both the House and Senate were controlled by the Republicans (one even lasted a month) and the country didn't collapse into the earth then and it wouldn't do so now unless it was sustained for an absurdly long amount of time. There could be consequences for elections and polling though.
