But as with most "funny" crowdfunded comics, the joke is stale or meaningless by the time the book is ready to come out. (If it ever comes out).

Being charitable, I think it would have worked as a one-off comic strip, or a few pages. Same with Jem and the Homophobes. Like a Stonetoss thing. Something short and memeable. I get the humor value to some extent.

But as a whole book, or God forbid, a series... just no.

Ethan did it this way because you don't really crowdfund a comic strip. That's something you give away for the lulz. It's about the $$$ with him.

I was on the fence about the whole "new Frog art bad", and honestly I'm not anywhere close to being able to critique art or story. With this, I usually have pretty low standards for liking something and finding it entertaining.

That was until I saw that comparison of older art vs. new and holy shit, y'all were right. There is no heart or soul in the newer stuff compared to the old. Also, the old stuff just looks fun as hell.

The same goes with the story. I got the warts and all hardcover( I didn't have the page sticking problem, but can see how it could happen since there is Chinesium mixed in to it's production) and the stories in it are a lot more crazy fun and easy going than with his new stuff that is like others have pointed out, walking deadish armageddon story. I hated that CF was still pretty much his same ole wise cracky, practical jokey self in Reckt Planet as he was in the older stuff. This is after he sees all the destruction and doesn't even know about the condition of his "mom" or "brother". I would expect him to be more broken and depressed, like at his lowest point, then builds back up to his normal self as the story progresses. I would have also liked to see Heather have more animosity towards CF when they do reunite instead of CF being welcomed back by her with open arms. I mean CF told Heather he would find her and dipped the fuck out hibernated for 20 years. Frog could have played on that and built their relationship back up as the story progressed(like after CF saves Lily or something). In the old stuff, it's fine that CF is still his ole self, especially when there are stories about giant lobsters or evil creatures disguising themselves as nuns. But what do I know, I'm like Alex Jones in that "I'm kinda retarded."

All party's involved with these manufactured drama mills are faggots but the milk that has been produced has been nourishing. I will say both ISOM and CF are like off brand corn flakes, "theeerrree food!". Also, I have been against a Frog thread in the past, but I think he has more than earned it in this newest season of CG. God speed to the brave Kiwi willing to take on that task.

The only reason he looks younger in the 2 year old pic is because he went through a phase where he dyed his beard and hair. Before that he still looked 60+ and fat. Also, in the beginning ISOM #1 review stream, he had a camera on him. The angle he had it really showed off how many pies he has been stress eating lately. I think he noticed it too and turned that camera off.

If I may ask, was it the regular or the Executive version (gilded pages) ? There's speculation that the gilding process reactivated the ink, but it's hard to figure out how widespread it is.

I got the regular version. Even when I was backing Frog's stuff, I would only back the base stuff. I just wanted the comic not the "it's the same book, but with bells and whistles and only cost $30 more" stuff. That would make since with the Chinesium gilded pages causing the pages to stick.

CG had actually industry talent breaking off from the business not a bunch of outsiders trying to influence something they had zero control over or expertise in producing a replacement. GG was never going to accomplish anything. CG in theory could have worked even if not on a mainstream scale, but we a have 2100+ page thread for a reason.

CG's own Graham Nolan has on occasion, but I think it more of just a boomer thing on his part. Also, I could be wrong, but he has never seemed like a narcissist retard.

Nolan has been part of CG for what, like 2, 3 years and already produced more books that Ethan... I guess not streaming all day helps with actually delivering the product.

1. Bankrolled the writing and art of projects before they were advertised to cut down the lead time.
2. Hired editors to make sure the comics were quality before they went to pencil.
3. Collected the money before placing the orders.
4. Had printing and international distribution logistics

Like i don't know, a comic book company? A publisher?
Comicsgate would succeed if someone stepped up like that. But maybe they aren't because its a bad business decision.
EVS wants to be the king of shit mountain, and Eric July thinks its reasonable for everyone who has a story to make 200k dollars from being the "based black man" on the blaze, have the social skills/interest to make a ton of low effort reaction videos on youtube to get attention, or sing in a band to make enough money before making a comic book.
It's the same thing when Joe Rogan thinks you can just quit your job and lift kettle bells, and go hunting or something because he did it, not realizing his situation and story is unique.
The "Buy my comic, i'll have it for you whenever" is a flop and a shitty business model.
But yeah Gamergate didn't have professionals pushing it, which makes Comicsgate all the more dipshit in retrospect.
Good luck trying to get attention in a sea of mediocrity so you can pay professional artists close to 5-10k dollars to draw your comic, plus print and ship all by yourself.

Dynamite and its owner Nick Barrucci were pressured by creators and retailers with an ultimatum to cancel fulfillment of Cash Grab, which he bent the knee to. Frog saw the writing on the wall (he was next) and decided he needed to set up some sort of fulfillment capacity of his own fast. That I can't really fault him for. It does make the preceding years of calling upon indie creators to join CG, they can do it, while having all of his own logistics secretly handled by a professional comic book publisher look bad though.
