Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I'm hearing contempt about the upcoming Indiana Jones title being a first-person adventure game. I don't get it. To me, I feel that design choice is for immersion to experience it THROUGH his eyes. Whether the final product is good or not remains to be seen.

MachineGames had one good game out the half dozen they made, and that one was their first. Could be good, sure, but for what reason would you think so?

One game and in 2014. TNC was lousy, divisive, and was quickly swept away, and Youngblood and Cyberpilot were so bad even the bought and paid for media lambasted them. Youngblood and Cyberpilot collaborator Arkane has been routinely and deservedly lambasted for their recent catalog despite releasing the passable Prey in 2017. MachineGames deserves no benefit of the doubt, same as Blade.

Wolfenstein: The New Order was very overrated. I never completed it. I think it just got a lot of acclaim because it was one of the first modern shooters to have health packs and allow you to carry every gun you come across, just like the old ones. It's really pretty boring and full of bullet sponge enemies. The Old Blood was just more of the same.

There is no way anything from MachineGames will be good. Even with wokeness aside, their work has been incredibly boring.

Good point. I have no experience with MachineGames' products, so you have more speculative experience than I do. Actually, I've played the first Wolfenstein reboot. I did not mind it. Quite refreshing to play a shooter not centered on multiplayer. I should finish it.

To add, and I'm not criticizing Buckshot Roulette as a game (my understanding is it's quite well designed), the whole horrifying nature of roulette is that it's an all-or-nothing test of bravado which either ends in sudden, extremely violent death and your brains splattered over the wall or in victory, based on nothing but random probability. When you make the roulette survivable you automatically take any horror, any tension out of it.
But that doesn't make for a fun game. There's no tension in that.

Yes, it is overrated, but it's still got some fun weapons and memorable moments. It's not very replayable because there's so much talking.

I never got to play Old Blood, but I heard it was good as it cut out the downtime and was mostly gameplay, which was the best part of New Order. Though the story moments were the memorable moments of New Order, so I don't know how it would hold up.

Wolfenstien 2008 was underrated imo. Like many average to above average FPSs of it's day, it was raked over the coals by critics, but I liked it despite it's flaws.

I wonder if the reboot games would be remembered fondly if the sequels didn't go full woke/TDS.

To be perfectly honest with you, it's pretty obvious you posted the Sans Undertale and backed away when @WULULULULU mocked you. Were you implying that @Spitz is just like the easiest enemy ever from a video game because he mocked you for eating soy products? That's a pretty damn video gamey way to reply for someone who doesn't like video games. And then you just happened to type in the one specific phrase that perfectly matches Sans' battle description in Undertale. You could have just used, I dunno, the Mario Goomba or a ghost from Pac-Man after you eat the pills and they turn blue and run away. I mean, it's not a very good comeback in the first place, but you really wanted to wedge in that 2smart4u Undertale reference, which fits your personality.

I wouldn't admit to knowing this much about Undertale in a forum with this many open homosexuals.

I'm okay with everything I saw in the new game...except for how modern ugly the female lead looks. It's the late 30's and she looks like a frumpy tumblr girl.

Probably not an unpopular opinion, but I am certainly not a fan of either Breath of the Wild or Tears of the Kingdom. As I mentioned in another post in another thread, these games are unnecessarily tedious especially for Zelda games. Maybe not so much for an open world game, but certainly for a Zelda game. I'm pretty sure I spent more hours playing either of the above two mentioned games than all the other Zelda games put together. It's flat out ridiculous.

Wolfenstein TNO wasn't exactly a game you could replay from scratch again, but ticking off challenges was actually super satisfying and I loved how the game wasn't long enough to actually wear out its welcome if you did want to go back and check off more things.

It was one of those games where I was entirely satisfied to 100% and then never play again. Joining the ranks of Spider-Man and Red Faction: Guerilla.

As a one and done it was great, The Old Blood had its moments (can't remember exactly but there was a cable car ride through the alps that was fucking great) but felt like a bit of a let down compared to TNO and don't get me started on the shitfest that was Wolfie 2.

In fact it's kinda funny how Wolfenstein 2 fucked the story up to such an extent that there's probably never going to be an end game to the trilogy.

Most sports games are awful but they're fun with people you know.
Sports games were only fun with those Midway and Tecmo Bowl-style arcade games. I do find it amusing that somehow sports games get worse every year. But the fags at the NFL caught the vapors that NFL Blitz was too wacky for them and forced Midway to tame the series, thus killing it.

I like Duke Nukem Forever. Is it good? No. Was it worth the wait? Fuck no. Did it make me chuckle? A bit. Did I have fun? Enough.

maybe its because I skipped that console generation because I was a poor teenager but I scrounged together money to buy that to play it at my best friends house because my fondest memories were my dad teaching me how to play FPS's with Duke 3D, maybe I'm a retarded faggot. I like it. I don't think it's particularly good but it was more Duke Nukem. its not any more or less humorous then the original imo and the gameplay is serviceable which is good enough for me (especially at the time.) I've played it through a few times and I've always had fun with it. I wouldn't play it over the original, Duke it out in DC, or Life's a Beach, but I think it's totally fine and not quite sure why people hate it outside of it coming out a decade late and being dated in humor and gameplay.

Final Fantasy 13 wasn't really that bad. Sure, there's a huge chunk of the time where you're on-rails, but hey, at least the game looks nice, and when you get to the open world, you can explore more than a fair bit. The boss battles were grand and epic, the characters were at least serviceable, and in the full accounting, I just can't understand why people like Spoony, Razorfist, or Angry Joe hated it so much. I'd give it an 8.5/10. It would've gotten a 7, but the aesthetics and graphics elevated it.

Crossplay with PC and console is a fucking mistake. I've just had 9 matches back to back in Enlisted where I'm stuck with a team that's maybe 3 or 4 PC players who are good at the game and want to win, and 6-12 console faggots who have 8 deaths, less than 200 points, and maybe 1 or two kills. And then disconnect due to having over 200 ping. Did I mention I played all 4 armies twice (Germany and America/Britain thrice), at BR II and IV each, and got the same results?

I'm at a point now where if more than half the team is console fags, I will just "desert" and go back into the lobby while making a complaint on all the console fags. It's no fucking fun playing with a bunch of squeakers from <insert 3rd world shithole here> that just run around aimlessly and feed the other team free kills, while me and the 2-3 other guys who are trying desperately to win and have fun are just getting curb stomped. There should be an option in crossplay-compatible games to toggle where PC players should be able to "opt in" to PC-only lobbies and games.

You forget that FF13 is very fucking grindy. The transition from one chapter to another is also slow and tedious. It feels like a visual novel with tidbits of action in certain parts of the game.

Your mistake was playing Enlisted in the first place.

Enlisted, when I'm not having to dodge Crossplay wankers, is actually really damn fun. It hits just right there between "it's realistic" and "but it's not ArmA or Tarkov".

Enlisted deserves to be in the trashcan for the AI alone. Fuck me is the bots so bad, might as well replace the AI with CSS bot AI and it'd be fun. Also, always online is pretty gay. At least Tarkov can be modded for Singleplayer but you can't even do that shit with Enlisted.
