Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Sorry grandpa, Switch is retro. It came out a couple months after Trump was sworn in. Kids born the day it came out are in grade school. Its release date is closer to gamergate than it is to now.
The Switch is practically a 360 with some remote and motion gimmicks. It's an outdated toaster, yet it's roasting the competition.

Largely because Microsoft and Sony shat the bed royally, and Nintendo's had the market cornered on Handhelds for years now. The Switch is terribly underpowered, and ports from other consoles show it. But because it's primarily for kids, and Nintendrones will buy anything Nintendo puts out, it's doing better than it should have.

For example, Nintendrones will gush about playing "Skyrim on the go!" and how that makes the Switch the greatest console ever, but the Switch version is quite literally the worst way to play Skyrim...and it's not even the 64-bit re-release, the Switch version runs the original 32-bit that launched on PC/360/PS3.
And it runs that version worse than the PS3...may I be forgiven for uttering their name aloud, but Kotaku released both an article and a YT video demonstrating the performance and looks of (at the time) all the different versions of Skyrim (OG PC/360/PS3, re-release PC/XB1/PS4, and Switch), and it's painfully clear that the Switch version runs worse than the PS3 release of Skyrim, and it looks to be on-par with the PC release on the lowest graphical preset.

This is pretty much true for every game released on the Switch that wasn't specifically made for it, they have to gimp the fuck out of the graphics and cut huge corners to get a game to run(ish) on the Switch...but Nintendrones don't care, as long as they can play a game "On The Go!", they're soyjaking 24/7.

It's kind of like how Sony fans don't care that their games are all dogshit daddy issue movies. As long as they get a cry session out of their movie game it's 10/10 goat

I don't know Xbots deals are. I know two of them and it basically just seems like they're social shut ins who's entire friendbase are some people they play games with at weird hours on the other side of the country because of time zone differences.

If players don't like bullet sponges. (I really don't), then why are games so devoted to them?
I remember the Halo 3 ViDoc's, and they admitted they "cheated" by making the brutes bullet sponges in Halo 2, and appeared visibly uncomfortable with what they had done.

But games still do it.

Halo 4 should have started with a new Spartan. I can't see the UNSC fielding a fake chief, that could have disastrous results, but Halo 4 should have started with Master Chief declared MIA, as per Spartan Doctrine.

All the events of Halo 4 can still pretty much progress from there, and even the rebellion would make more sense. By the time of Halo 4, the master chief has over 45 years of operational time. I know some fucking comic book did a joke about Chief having enough clout to outrank George Fucking Washington, and he flat out says no one would know what to call him then.

So have the rebelling spartan be junior. Maybe a mustang officer, and have the AI be his training partner, almost a reprise of Chief and Cortana, but not using Chief or Cortana.

Hell, that would give 343 a clean board to operate from. No one can bitch about mischaracterization, because the new guy is a clean slate. When the AI goes rogue, you can buy it, because we're not familiar with this AI, and have the betrayal of Spark fresh in our memory from 3.

But no, Halo is the story of Halo, a pretty cool guy. eh kills aleins and doesn't afraid of anything.

pretend the Starchild part doesn't exist.
STARCHILD POWER CONTROL ON / OFF. YOU HAVE SELECTED - OFF.
some previous party member died, they just replace them with some other generic NPC
You mean like in actual war? Veteran dies, gets replaced by FNG. I believe the replacement squadmates had lower skills than the returning ones, and rather than being retarded handholding, it seems like a commentary on war. Not everybody makes it, but the job remains the same.

God that testicle fucker needs a thread ban. He shops in the EXOTIC ASIAN section of Tesco for EXCITEMENT.

I realize both the things I talked about happened like 20 pages ago, but those 20 pages were dogshit.

That's the point; the Switch is an outdated toaster, but it's an outdated toaster with a healthy library of first-party games that, while repetitive, are at least somewhat functional and fun. Its third-party ports like KOTOR 2, Skyrim, and MK1 suck, but they're hardly the reason why someone buys a Switch.

Outside of a few titles that are somewhat popular, like the new Spider Man game, the other consoles have barely anything to offer that the PC can't already do better.

It's kind of like how Sony fans don't care that their games are all dogshit daddy issue movies. As long as they get a cry session out of their movie game it's 10/10 goat

Xbox fans used to be FPS fratboys, especially since in the old days, they bought an Xbox because of Halo, but now the fratboys left because the games no longer appeal to them.

It was a fanbase that lived, breathed, and died on the concept of you and your mates passing around a cold one while no-scoping your enemies and tea-bagging them. It was a fanbase built on a mostly-male audience yelling the word ''NIGGER'' through their Xbox Live headsets, engaging in the hyper-competitive virtual battles that many feminists and SJWs decried as ''toxic masculinity''. When Microsoft sold them out and the SJWs and feminists started chasing out all the chuds, what do you think happened to that fanbase?

most people who do play those games nowadays play it on PC so they can mod it to hell and add all sorts of things.
Without proof, I'm 99% certain the majority of gamers don't choose PC because they can use mods, in fact I doubt the majority of them even use mods, at least consistently.

There are some good write ups online about it but Sega made numerous mistakes with the Saturn that made it challenging to meaningfully compete with the PlayStation but from 1995-1997, the Japanese Saturn lineup was pretty decent and any Saturn versions often had much better sound over PlayStation and if it was in 2D, it was a guarantee it was better on the Saturn.
It's really too bad Sega sabotaged themselves with shit like the early release and high price point, in a different timeline we could have Sega in the console race instead of Sony.

Nintendo Switch is a 9th generation console.
They have it down as 8th gen? That's dumb, a console releasing earlier than the competition by several years isn't unprecedented in a console generation (which is what I assume their reasoning is).

Thirty bucks for Game Boy games, though, now that's highway robbery for how terrible so many were.
I wonder why Pokemon Yellow was cheaper, it's the best game in that lineup and a lot of bang for your buck. Imagine getting Beauty & the Beast for $30 though lol.

That's impossible, I only ever played the PS3 & Switch versions, and Switch ran way better. PS3 was literally struggling to run it at all, it was a literal slideshow and I dreaded entering or leaving buildings because the loading was atrocious.

Switch was serviceable. The only conclusion I can reach is they compared a patched up version, because early on the PS3 version was considered by many to be unplayable.

The Xbox brand peaked from 2005-2009. Xbox Live was more competent than anything Sony or Nintendo put out at the time. Halo got less popular with each iteration but Gears of War was a big deal. 360 versions of games looked and ran better than PS3 versions of games. Then Microsoft decided to go all in on Kinect, just as the Wii fad was dying. The Xbox brand never really recovered. I’m surprised Xbox still even exists today. I know it’s just a footnote on the Microsoft balance sheet but I don’t know anyone who gets excited about yet another Halo or Forza.

Especially since most Xbox exclusives came out on PC, so at this point, you might as well get a PC instead, that way, you can mod the games.

Be thankful

I know someone who is a die hard Xbox fanatic. It's been real fucking pathetic seeing them deal with the slow death of Halos relevance, but it's downright weird to see them act as if Grounded and Sea of Thieves is super relevant.

I mean, I'm a massive Halo fan, but even I'll say that the true "Last Dying Breath" of Halo was the Master Chief Collection being released on PC, and Halo Wars 2. Nobody really cares about Infinite, the MP scene is all in MCC.

PlayStation games initially were $49 but eventually dropped to $39, except for “premium” brands like Squaresoft games. Sony was always aggressive with pricing, first to undercut the Saturn (they dropped the price of PlayStation by $100 to sink the Saturn) and later the Nintendo 64. It’s a long way from the Soyny of today who now started introducing a $69 standard price for PS5 “experiences.”

$49 in 1994 is $100 today.

Especially since most Xbox exclusives came out on PC, so at this point, you might as well get a PC instead, that way, you can mod the games.

"Xbox exclusive except for PC" has been a completely irrelevant category since PCs have been retard-proof for a decade and you can get an adequate gaming computer for $700 or less.

I haven't seen that many Xbox fanatics as of late. I saw a lot of them in the late 2000s and early 2010s, but ever since the mid-2010s, I began to see them drop out until now, no one in my friends' list is willing to choose an Xbox over a PC.

The last time that Halo was relevant was Reach, and it was relevant because that was the last game made by the makers of Halo. It was a love letter and a goodbye. Halo 4 was a fine game, but it had more than a few flaws that the OG Halo makers wouldn't have made, and they alienated both the story fans and the multiplayer fans. They alienated the former with the retcons about Forerunners and humans, and they alienated the latter by pursuing a more CoD-style multiplayer that annoyed Halo veterans. This led to many Halo fans slowly leaving. Then you had Halo 5, and the utter destruction of Halo as a brand. Halo MCC, Halo Wars 2, and Halo Infinite are just the last gasps of air from a dying man.

"Xbox exclusive except for PC" has been a completely irrelevant category since PCs have been retard-proof for a decade and you can get an adequate gaming computer for $700 or less.
Exactly. Which makes it even less appealing to get a modern console outside of the Switch when you can buy and mod most modern games on the PC instead.

The biggest mistake was making another Halo trilogy. I know it's an dead horse comparison but, it's pretty much like the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. No one really asked for it and it was absolutely unnecessary to a series that already wrapped itself up.

Sadly, as much as I liked Reach I do think it unintentionally generated 'some hype' for a new trilogy and that really sucks since Halo 4 (and 5) suck dick.

Also my unpopular opinion: Halo 3: ODST is kino. I consider it to be exactly on par with Halo 3.

Firewatch is wank. It really elevates the walking simulator genre, elevates it all the way up to being a shitty movie where I have to press buttons to make it go forward.

Iron Lung, Squirrel Stapler, and now Buckshot Roulette kill my hope for humanity. First we get this cheap ass flash game knockoff where you navigate a sEa Of AlIeN bLoOd (give me a break) while it occasionally flashes a spoopy image at you and then finally kills you with a jumpscare, no real gameplay or anything, just a fucking walking simulator at its core that goes aboogaboogaboo at the very end. Then the motherfucker that made that made a dumb meme game that, credit to it, at least looks pretty funny and offbeat, but people are playing that up as his second horror masterpiece because it, too, dumps a dumbass jumpscare at the end. Now finally, we have a game where you play spooky roulette against a dude and it's super scary because he has long teeth and vacant eye sockets.

I cannot for the life of me understand how the fuck Buckshot Roulette is supposed to be taken seriously as horror. When you blow your head off with a goddamn shotgun in that game, you get revived with defibrilators. The worst thing that can happen to you in a game of glorified coin flipping is that you apparently stroke out a bit after hearing gun go bang. It doesn't even make sense within its own context.

Zoomers are fucking morons.
Meh the microconcept cheap indies just remind me of the old days of Shareware. I don’t care for anything David Syzmalinski (whatever his name is) has done beyond Dusk and Gloomwood but I got no problem with little concept games being popular.

Buckshot Roulette is a ripoff of Inscrption though.

The new GOW is nice and all. Well maybe just the first. Ragnarok is a muddled mess in my opinion. But I kinda miss the naked chicks from the old series. Yeah its a video game but whoever worked on them had mad talent. Especially the ones in Ascension right before they removed it from the series. From an purely aesthetic point, you don't really see art like that anymore.

I understand now that GOW has evolved into a dad game this might not be the best place for that sort of thing anymore. But surely that doesn't mean the entire Western AAA and AA industry needs to boycott making female character models that don't look like shit from now on right?

Reach became the blueprint for something worse than the nu-Halo trilogy.
Is Reach really that hated? I mean, I did like Reach originally as the 'conclusion' to the series (well, at the time) similar to MGSV. AKA, it's the prequel that takes place 'just before the start of the franchise' but that's just referring to the story.

Gameplay wise, all I can remember was Armor abilities and the DMR instead of Battle Rifle.

I liked the DMR honestly. Team SWAT was fun, I do remember the whole bloom thing and all that other shit. The armor abilities were kinda dumb IMO but I guess that's why they were "phased out" after the fall of Reach in the story. Although the jetpack was cool.
