Well, if we’re talking about misplaced Hopium - I’ve got just enough of that left in the tank with Game Freak that I’m willing to give them one last chance with Gen 10.

It’s both a milestone, and an argument could be made that Gen 10 will be the first without Masuda’s direct involvement. There were just enough signs in Gen 9 and its DLC that someone at GF still gives a shit, that I’m willing to give one, final chance.

Because unfortunately, as every Pokeclone has shown us - no one has been able to replicate the formula, and even the ones you might feel have come close have failed to catch that lightning in a bottle.

Honestly, I see tha the backlash is based on Pals being very obviously copied from Pokémon, especially Decidueye and Xatu, and the company' supposed use of AI and NFTs.

The majority of "backlash" looks fake. Its trannys mad that people like the game. The few minor gripes about AI are coming from artists afraid AI will replace them. The rest is literally the same people who tried to cancel Hogwarts Legacy trying to cancel this game.

I can't write to save my life, so I'll just say if they wanted to focus on Kieran so much he absolutely should've been portrayed in a more creepy manner than just your average little brother.

I think the issue with "beating" Pokemon is that even if you make a superior game, GF will not give a shit because at this point the main games are just vessels to introduce more characters for more merch, which is where the real margins are. Unless GF pulls a Disney and starts tanking their reputation with DEI shit, I don't see Pokemon being dethroned by any other franchise.

Whoever decided to make the Unknown Dex in the way that they did was very silly.

I honestly like the fact that Kanto had terrible levels. It’s kind of just nice to walk through everything my only issue was Mount Silver’s levels being too low but most importantly having no good Pokemon in it.

Now to play Emerald for the first time and dust off my copy of XD - which while better than Colo, it took away the style and the flare it had so much. Game should have giving us 2 Eevee and a sidekick cause that Scouter was not built for one person.

Are we just going to pretend that romhacks don't exist? I think there is plenty of talented modders in the Pokemon ROMhack community that could make something decent, even if they had to start from scratch and build their own foundation. Certainly more talented than whoever is working at GF
Correct me if I'm wrong, but Gen 9 IS the first generation without Masuda at the helm. ...which is exactly what nu-GF is doing right now. Lest we forget, the fans, at least Japanese ones, are NOT on board with making the characters ugly, non-white and the game being proto-woke. Look I’ll be honest, I’ve seen enough romhacks fall into the trap of “give it a dark and edgey storyline and an absurd difficulty curve” that I’ll admit to ignoring most romhacks. It was cool the first time, it got less cool every other time after that.

At least Infinite Fusion just sticks to its gimmick.

I traded with a bot last week that was able to input my trainer name and id in the correct fields on the fly based solely on trading one of my Mons to it. All of them have the capability of passing every one the Pokémon companies fake Mon checks now.

That's honestly kind of sad but I kind of stopped giving a shit after Surprise Trade became filled with the same stuff, I'm just doing it to fill the Dex anyways. Sadly Iron Valiant isn't good trade bait for the DLC Past Paradox 'mons, I've had two Shiny Iron Valiants up on the GTS that have gone by unnoticed for two days.

That's not to say Violet's Paradox 'mons are complete shit though, Iron Bundle is one of the better glass cannons introduced in SV and Iron Hands is bulky as shit in terms of HP and Defense (combine that with a Belly Drum+Quark Drive-boosted Drain Punch and you'll see why you it's in Tera Raids so often).

The big issue with Iron Valiant is that it has great Attack/Special Attack stats but terrible Special Defense and a middling HP stat, it's Speed is okay but it needs a +1 to do well.

The Pokémon attack force continues. Almost everyone speaking against the game turns out to be a giant Nintendo fanboy with 800+ hours in the game, an artist making nsfw Pokémon art, or in this case an etsy artist selling bootleg Pokémon merchandize while calling the game a bootleg of Pokémon.

So, you know those Salt Factory videos I linked a few pages back evaluating the stories in those games? Well, I watched them again. I never thought about how these games are written or how their stories compare to one another before, but good fucking lord, are they even worse than I remember them. I mean, GameFreak have been at it for 30 years now, almost, and if you took all the good story bits, ideas and characters together from every single game, you would have maybe 1 really good title or maybe even 0.75 of one. These games survived solely due to gameplay loop, character designs and sheer merchandise they sell alone, because holy fuck are the stories and dialogue bad when you look deeper into them.

You might say "no shit", but you don't really think about that when you actually play the game, you focus on the next gym or trying to catch/train your Pokemon, whatever. The next story segment or evil team encounter is kind of like having story in a porno: it's just there because it has to be there but nobody expects it to be good. Why CAN'T it be good? Just because the games are made for kids doesn't mean they can just be low effort garbage, kids can enjoy things too.

I know Gamefreak are hacks and that nobody is really going to argue with me on this, but I just hope that the newfound success of Palworld might mean that people start looking at Pokemon in a more critical light and start asking the same questions. I mean, what was the budget and manpower behind that game, vs the latest Pokemon game? With the army of cocksuckers and consoomers Pokemon has, I doubt anything will change, but I do want people to start noticing and questioning. You might say that's impossible, but the latest COD game bombed, IGN gave it a 4.0 and I've seen it get shit on universally. It's late January and the game has been dead for months, it only came out in early November, this might be the first time that ever happened before. Resident Evil 4 remake was bombarded too, altho not nearly as much and I wouldn't say that was an awful game, just inferior to the original and one whose existence is entirely pointless and redundant. Point is that your average gamer is starting to get tired of all the slop and I hope Pokemon is the next triple A title in the barrel, so to speak

@30+GameOvers Can't reply for some reason, but regarding the average gamer getting tired of the slop, I think it's more the average gamer is moving away from gaming. The nerd boom feels like it's on it's last legs, which may be pure copium, but it really does seem like, more and more, games don't get the amount of reddit-esqe dick-slobberers they used to just a few years ago.

Recently, it almost, ALMOST feels like the glory days of the early aughts, where we all laughed at faggots like Jack Thompson (God, I never thought I'd miss him), and just enjoy games. Paired with the fact more and more 'major devs' seem to be coming to the conclusion that games just aren't worth it, and laying off massive swaths of DIE award winners...

Like I said, massive copium, but maybe people are doing the normal autist thing of taking a meme seriously, and starting to go the fuck outside, and leave us loser nerds the fuck alone.
