Lol @ Disney for not getting a nomination for their shitty movie in animation category. Next year they should get rid of Pixar too.

I can imagine how I wish it would go

(Cue dramatic music and spotlight)

James Corden:
(Strikes a faggot pose, microphone in hand) Welcome back to the 96th Academy Awards! We've witnessed tears, triumphs, and flops, but now we reach the pinnacle of this starry night: Best Picture! And what a race it's been! We've soared with intergalactic heroes, wept with grieving monarchs, and laughed with talking racoons… but only one film can wear the crown. So, envelopes please…

(Presents Oscar)

James:
(Opens the envelope, eyes widening) And the Oscar for Best Picture goes to… "Gay Niggerss from Outer Space"!

(A stunned silence washes over the audience, peppered with a few scattered gasps and awkward coughs)

James:
(Clears throat, attempts a laugh) Oh... wow. Well, folks, you heard it right! Buckle up, because this is about to get.. BLACKED!

(Literally nobody laughs)

James:
(Thinks fast, leans into the microphone) Now, I know what you're thinking. "Gay Niggers from Outer Space? Seriously?" And trust me, when I first read the title, I did a spit-take worthy of a waterpark dolphin. But let me tell you, this film is no laughing matter. It's a poignant tale of self-discovery, intergalactic prejudice, and the power of booty-shaking – yes, you read that right.

(James Corden shits himself and dies)

(Audience erupts in laughter and applause)

Bill Clinton Kid closes ceremony.

End.

Godzilla: Minus One gets almost completely snubbed and Barbie gets 8 nominations.

Hollywood is dumb.
I knew it'd get nominated for Visual Effects, at the very least. It's not going to win it because it's the Academy, unfortunately.

Also, The Creator legitimately had great effects that deserve to win so Minus One has viable competition there.

Seriously Academy, you couldn't even nominated it for best International Film? Really?!

If they give Ryan Gosling the Oscar for Barbie, but for not his role in Drive, then people need to stop looking for the Academy Awards in current day as a merit for achievement.

Also, how does the Super Mario Bros. Movie not get a single nomination? Even though I should also be lucky, since if it did get nominated, it would also get the Barbie treatment and only win awards just to boost ratings.

Honestly, I don’t have much of an issue with the nominees, although I don’t know why America Ferrera is being nominated for anything. More likely a diversity nomination. Same with Sterling K. Brown.

I just hate Jimmy Kimmel. He’s cringe and not funny. Also, watching these awards and circlejerk is pointless. Would just rather read the winners online unless someone gets slapped on stage again.

I'm kind of surprised that The Iron Claw didn't get nominations for either costume design or set design.

They nailed the look of that era of the wrestling territories on local stations.
Yea, I hate that so much. The Iron Claw got no love whatsoever.

Maybe because it didn’t adhere to the Academy’s diversity standards. Oppenheimer could get away with it because it has Jews in it.

You can never win with these types of people. Stop trying to appease them with good, heartfelt words.

I saw a few TikToks talking about this (one who'd been at the announcement of the nominees was seething lmao), but it got me thinking about Goose getting his nomination and Barbie getting not much else that's too relevant (Best Song is in the bag, I guess). There was a lot of talk about how Oppenheimer wouldn't have done as well at the box office if it weren't for Barbie and the Barbenheimer meme. I do agree with that - anecdotal, but when I went to see Oppenheimer, I was very amused by the amount of teenagers going to see it since, y'know, it's a 3 hour drama that spends a lot of time talking about McCarthyism.

Here's the thing though - I also think Barbie wouldn't have done as well if Ryan Gosling hadn't been Ken. People seem to underestimate how popular he is amongst a ton of young men for his roles in Drive and BR2049. I realize that Gosling himself would probably find quite a few of these young men's morals questionable (he is a outspoken feminist), but he's also been smart enough not to shit on them. And this is a matter of opinion, but Barbie was quite heavily carried by Gosling. Not to say Margot Robbie was bad, I very much liked her in it, but I think a not-so-insignificant portion of the men who went to see the movie wouldn't have done so if it weren't for the Goose. It's also much easier to sympathize with and comprehend Ken's character arc than Barbie's, which imho was a bit vague and didn't take advantage of something that I thought it would (won't get too into it, but I expected the movie to talk more about women and their relationship with aging, especially since Barbie the doll is such an old property now; it hints at it, but doesn't take that direction, leaning more on the somewhat boring "imperfection" theme, which made it lack in the actual drama department).

Basically, while Goose probably won't win (might, but Downey had a strong role), his role in making Barbie the success it is is more notable than anything Robbie or Gerwig did.

Absolute bullshit that Godzilla Minus One only got a nomination for visual effects when it's an incredible film and miles better than any of the other nominees.

It's pretty funny that Ryan Gosling got a nomination but not Robbie or that cunt Gerwig. Even in a shitty, femenist movie, a man still ends up being the most beloved role.
