Palworld - Everything you have ever wanted from a Pokemon game

If Gamefreak/Pokemon Company legally pursues anything with Palworld, I'm officially done with Pokemon.
And I am a massive, dick sucking consumer. It's embarrassing.
Depending on what's coming out I spend probably around 500-1100 dollars a year on cards/merch. It's bad.
I don't do Funko shit though, ok.

Pokemon is THE thing I'm a CONSOOMER of, and this whole experience with Palworld has been oddly cathartic. I've been unhappy with the games/direction for years.. but I'll always find new Pokemon that I still like in the mix of it, hyperfocus on it like a autist and get merch for it.

I've been doing this shit since the 90s. I seriously think their ad campaigns successfully brainwashed me as a kid. Having fun with a competing IP and playing around with lookalikes of the Pokemon I care about has been kick ass, I'm ready for change.

I sincerely hope other Poke-dick-suckers will do the same if that happens.

You know what, fuck it-- even if they don't pursue, I'm toning down the Pokemon.

There’s looking like Pokemon and there’s looking like very secific Pokemom while making absolute bank out of nowhere.

GF and Nintendo’s hand might have been forced in a way they might not have wanted.

Legal shit takes time and even if its the correct thing to do, sometimes they don’t due to public perception. There’s also the thing that it’s Japan. They’d probably prefer sorting stuff out as privately as they could. If a deal hasn’t already been struck or is not being struck as we speak I’d be surprised.

Especially when a lot of people making this game seem to like Pokemon and this game is one hell of a resume to get hired should they want.
20% distinction is all you need. The characters people are so hellbent on claiming are exact rips are definitely more than 20% distinct.

The Palworld team already has gone through with their own legal team to make sure The Pokemon Company doesn't have a leg to stand on
Any legal pursuit would just be bad PR. Like, REALLY bad PR. I think a bunch of adult fans would pull out of Pokemon consooming-- potentionally millions of them.

If they just go after with a frivolous lawsuit to make a smaller company lose money that's very very gross and the nintendsimps should be ashamed for cheering that shit on

Protecting yourself from people quite obviously stealing your shit does not make you the worst game company in the world. It makes gamers retarded for every big content person talking about this has gone ‘yeah, we know they are stealing shit, we don’t care’ at which point Nintendo has to psy attention even when they’d probably rather not.

The people talking about this are making it worse for Nintendo
What "obviously stealing your shit" are you on about? Having cute/cool animals with standard highlights/changes is as old as humanity and with Pokemon having 1000 mons you will certainly have similarities no matter what you design. And don't shill for the billion dollar corporation, if they sue it's because they are greedy bastards and Nintendo has a track record of draconian IP management.

DoI'm clearly doing something wrong. I tried setting up my metal factory and my Digtoise was only doing a rapid barrage of 1 damage.
Don't forget to craft his belt. Most of the more powerful Pals' passives wont function without their Pal gear, Digtoise being one of them.

I'm ready for change.
Thing is, Arceus did all this save base building. Not really much more they could do honestly. I think a lot of people just need to play something new kind of like it. If you play too much of something it will start to feel and seem worse, even if not.
I sincerely hope other Poke-dick-suckers will do the same if that happens.
Doubtfully. Dick suckers are too far gone.

You honestly should. Even GF and Nintendo seem to play different things. It’s likely how we get most of the spin offs.
It is not wrong. Nintendo was publishing this edgy shit 20 years ago and no one gave a fuck

Lmao

I think what he meant is the game has the same artstyle, "close enough" chartacter designs (most blatant example is the grass rabbit, it's literally a Cinderace) and the devs have also copied other games in the past like BOTW with Craftopia and Hearthstone with Overdungeon and Hollow Knight with Never Grave. Basically setting a precedent.

Atleast Digimon and SMT look distinct, Palworld looks like Pokemon meets ARK and was dubbed Pokemon with guns for the longest time because of that. There was also that chart that tried to compare Pokemon designs to Dragon Quest designs and even there they don't really look the same which's helped by having a different artstyle.

We could be autistically analysing the designs and why they look the same all day long, but I think this dude puts it best:
They just look samey and we'll have to live with that. Now if Nintendo makes a lolsuit I think it'll be dropped, the designs are derivative enough to be protected by fair use.

Oh there absolutely not going to lawsuit. It wouldn’t be frivolous if they did I don’t think but PR damage, time and effort, cost. It’s not worth it when if there is an issue it can be dealt with quietly.

And honestly that’s what a lot of game devs bank on. Being too small and at a glance perhaps different enough for a bigger company not to bother

Most of the best things in the industry were built off the back of mods and other peoples code

It would be very funny to see the ceo in court go ‘yes, i showed that you could use AI on Pokemon to bypass copyright but we absolutely did not use it in our game that everyone says is Pokemon with Guns’

But as said, not going to happen

I mean, I doubt that. It’s just a lot of the stuff is clearly nicked so they are probably just going to come to an agreement quitely. Change a few models, hand over some money. Perhaps the Big N might even pouch some talent…

If the Palworld devs do get in trouble for some of the designs being way too close to Pokémon’s, I think they will just do what that one MLP fangame did and redesign the Pals to be more legally distinct.

….WHELP, ore mining just solved itself.
I set up my second base last night next to a bunch of ore veins. The big fish pals (captured from a syndicate fort next to that first boss tower had him) have mining 2 and mine them for me. I got ore for days now.

One thing I wish it had was a map that you could pull up anytime and not just on the fast travel beacons. (If there is let me know and rate me autistic and late)

You can pull up the map screen with 'm'. I'm not sure what it might be on a controller, but you can pull up the map whenever.

I just checked, and it doesn't actually list the binding for the map in the controls screen, but does list it in the survival guide. Weird. Guess that's an oversight.

If you are on PC, pressing M brings up the map. You can even put markers with icons to represent what is there like ore or an interesting place

I'm sure PocketPair took Pokemon designs, dumped them into one big pot and stirred until their legal team decided it's distinct enough, 100%. People saying "oh but it's just because they are both rabbits/wolves" are coping, we all can see what Palworld did.

The thing is... I am happy about it. Gamefreak made a ton of great designs (and a ton of garbage ones), but what they did with them?
Making them stand around like pieces of wood in boring battles with laughable, low-effort animations?
Occasionally putting them into bad minigames when you can drag and drop a piece of food to stuff it into their face?
Letting player ride one or two of them sometimes?
Making an "open world" for them where they pop in two meters from your characters, pacing back and forth lifelessly like condemnded souls wandering Asphodel Meadows?

Sure, my Pengullet buddy looks a lot like Piplup. But he can water my berries, explore the world with me, turn himself into a rocket, all of this with cute little animations that make him feel alive.
