If there ever

Lollin’ at Madge falling for the BBC meme. She should be so humiliated but she’s not and that’s why she’s a cow for the ages.

The difference between Madonna and every other grande dame of music back to Carol Channing, Julie Andrews and before is that Madonna was never a good musician and she was never pretty. Even in her youth she was mostly a talented butterface dancer with great promoters and producers.

Also Lola does look just like her and I for one find Lola hard to look at. It’s very amusing to see Lola pushed as a model. Pubestache is not and never will be the new Freida eyebrow.

I love current day Madonna and I wish she’d show off her diaper ass implants some more.
Madonna was never a classic beauty or the girl next door to a lot of people, but I thought she was attractive in an interesting way. Not a cookie-cutter blonde.

I liked the way she took charge of her career and didn't take crap from anyone, I've read too many stories of women getting their money and publishing rights stolen from them, and knew that wouldn't happen to her.

But I've been turned off by her behavior in the past 10 years or so. Now I wish she would've retired after Ray of Light.

Same. I've never been a fan of Madonna in the slightest, but that album is the only one of hers I like - And I love it. I bought it years ago based on Frozen alone. Absolutely insane how she had an album like that after her 80s pop, and proceeded to shit the bed entirely for the next two and a half decades.

I mean she's probably literally shitting the bed these days, but still.

Dolly Parton is older than Madonna, but I haven't read of anyone telling her to quit, maybe because she doesn't act like a malfunctioning sex replicant onstage?
Well Dolly grew up poor in Tennessee, and donates a ton of money. So that also helps Dolly.

It ain't just women that happens too; most well known musicians get ripped off by their labels all the time. Two of the more famous ones being MJ and Prince. Though the "don't take crap from anyone" label is usually codeword for being a jerk around other people.

I had no issues with her subtexts of female empowerment (although I still have doubts as to whether or not acting like a sexpot really "empowers" women)
The "female empowerment by being sexual" reminded me of this vid.

Aerosmith and Skid Row are two bands I can think of that got their rights and royalties stolen.
And as for "being a jerk around other people" a woman who stands up and asserts herself is called a bitch, whereas a man doing that is called assertive and strong. I've seen that scenario many times.

I've also seen the opposite, where a dude doing that is told "to just take a joke", while a woman is "standing up for herself".

I agree, I don't think she was beautiful in the way a Hollywood actress is beautiful, but she was interesting, I don't know if this opinion is popular or unpopular so I won't label it as either but for the first half (or first three quarters?) of her career she wasn't a boring entertainer.

I'm a bit surprised she's still trying to use rappers for clout and hasn't yet shifted to, let's say.... K-pop!

Someone else on this thread mentioned it before and I haven't stopped thinking about it since. K-pop companies have been searching for success in the western market for 2 decades at least (with varying degrees of success), and a K-pop collaboration will give Madonna a new, trendy minority to obsess over after her 51799 collabs with black rappers impressed no one except her most die hard, detached from reality fans. :optimistic:

It'll be a golden opportunity for all involved, before she meets the wrath of insane K-pop fans on Twitter after inevitably doing something racially insensitive vis-a-vis east Asians, after which she'll try to convince everyone that her detractors are actually motivated by ageism and misogyny. :feels:

Didn’t Taylor Swift had her catalog stolen too?

I’m not a fan but I hope that girl doesn’t turn into a Madonna when her fame and looks inevitably fade.

She did, but she also gave them a giant “fuck you” and decided to re-record all of the albums and she owns the rights to those. Not exactly sure how that works, but I gained some respect for her after that.
Bullshit. She did it for the money grab.

Now, the "official" reason is that she lost the right to decide commercial use of her songs, and that's fine. She could have kept her re-recorded versions in her pocket and found ways of getting them to the loyal fans at the lowest prices possible, or free, sort of the way fans of jam bands pass around bootlegs.

Nope, she had to sell them to the fans as "new" because she's greedy and exploitative as fuck.

Madonna definitely wanted to be seen as one. She has a clear interest in classic Hollywood- she regularly skinwalked Marilyn Monroe in the 80s and a lot of her old music videos have that aesthetic to it. Hell, "Vogue" name drops a lot of idols from that era. Then her Hollywood career... I agree, though. She looked interesting and had a personality. That's what made her attractive in her own special way.

I've always had a soft spot for Madonna's old stuff (thanks Mom) and was listening to "Material Girl" the other day. She's still chasing that lifestyle forty years later, to the point that she ruined her body and reputation. My mom was a huge fan of hers up to American Life, where she drifted from hearing her new material and hadn't kept up. She was horrified when she saw a picture of what she now looks like. Probably turned my mom off from listening to her. Gotta say, listening to "Material Girl" knowing she now looks closer to Pete Burns than Marilyn Monroe definitely hit different.

But I've been turned off by her behavior in the past 10 years or so. Now I wish she would've retired after Ray of Light.

Ray of Light would've been an excellent stopping point. It's when she regressed back to shock and awe in her 40s that her career started to take a nosedive.

I'm also thinking of other icons that have aged gracefully. EmmyLou Harris, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks. Stevie in particular has a live version of "Rhiannon" on one of her greatest hits albums that I love as much as the OG Fleetwood Mac version. There's more power to it from the symphony orchestra backed instrumental, but her already lovely voice and grace had matured since the early 70s. It is fantastic. A lot of her later material that I have heard has that same vibe to it. You can tell that she has grown as a musician and a person. Meanwhile you see Madonna poorly trying to dance and lip sync to "Like a Prayer" and feel uncomfortable because it looks like Grandma trying to recapture her glory days.

I’m not a fan but I hope that girl doesn’t turn into a Madonna when her fame and looks inevitably fade.

Taylor ending up like Madonna is 50/50 to me. It all depends on how she reacts to aging and the inevitable loss of fame. Probably wouldn't be Dolly Parton loved, but respectability is a good goal to have. Madge doesn't even have that now.

A lot of actresses, singers, and just plain women have skinwalked as Marilyn, hell I had a few platinum blonde phases in my youth.
And there's something to be said for liking old Hollywood, my two favorite actors come from that era.
There was a mystique about that time.
I lnow the stars and studio heads were as bad as today, but it was hidden much better.

I don't think TS is going to go down the Madonna road. She will end up getting married to her football player (or some halfway decent guy) have a few kids, get divorced, and enjoy her days with her grandkids, cats, and money.

Honestly, that "gap" she painted/drew on her front teeth is fucking NASTY. Just like the equally fucking NASTY nigger "grill" she wore.
It looks fucking revolting. Seriously. Same with gold teef and da grillzz.
They all look like they have severe tooth decay/rot and their breath could probably make the wallpaper slide right off the walls.

Dennis Rodman looks like he has super Aids and a whole host of other active STD's back even when I was in high school.

And these people think this makes them look...what...COOL? How would either one of them fare if they were challenged to stand in line at unemployment for two whole hours without a minder?

At one point, she had a sophisticated look about her that made her attractive and if she had continued to let herself age gracefully she maybe could have had a Helen Mirren type thing going on. Like these images were from 2003. I mean, she’s had some work done at this time but she’s not at Jocelyn Wildenstein or Bogdanoff brother level:

She looked good here because she didn’t seem like she was trying to look 25. Guess it isn’t as much “fun” though as trying to look the part of the twentysomething sexpot… or whatever. I guess. Kind of sad.

You think Madonna would've invested in some walking lessons for Lourdes if the wanted her to model. I've seen mules walk a catwalk better. I get second-hand embarrassment watching her.
