Families of murder victims/rape victims should be able to ask for the death penalty. I generally support rehab justice, but if a family feels like they can't forgive a criminal for what they've done then they shouldn't be put in a situation where they might consider vigilantism. If a father feels he has to murder his daughter's rapist, the government should kill the rapist for him. Otherwise crimes will breed more crimes.

No. He should do it himself. It's not a power the government needs but it instead they should be the middleman between the victim and the punishment if the victim would like their restitution in blood.

The government shouldn't have a right to murder its nation's citizens.

Should the government have the right to put it's citizens away in locked cages for the rest of their life?

If yes, why this right and not execution? If no, what to do about child molesters and murderers?

Should some criminals deserve death for what they did? Fuck yes.
Do I trust any government to actually execute that without fucking it up? No. Even places where it's still legal still fuck it up because hanging murderers is bad optics, better pump them full of chemicals from the lowest bidder lobbyist instead.

Yes.

Because locked cage can't restrict one's right for goddamn existence.

No, but it restricts your freedom forever. Arguably it is just a much more drawn out execution, where the executed is first demurrage in a cahe for 50 years. Why is the quick execution worse than the slow execution?

I’m opposed. For the following reasons:
1. Uneven application of the sentence. This punishment is supposed to be reserved for the “worst of the worst”, but there are many people sentenced to life who did similar crimes.

2. Can’t take it back. If the state imprisons someone wrongly they can be set free. If the state executes someone wrongly they can’t bring that person back from the dead.

3. Cost. Death penalty cases are costly, and many people on death row grow old and even die of old age before their execution comes. It would be more cost effective to just sentence these guys to life.

4. Questionable deterrent effect.

5. If god thinks you should die for your offense, he can make that happen without help from the state.

To me, life in prison being worse than death by execution is a feature, not a problem. If these criminals really are the worst of the worst they don’t deserve any lucky breaks.

by your logic life is a slow execution.
