Dumb question: could DSP in theory buy his WWEC coins or whatever it's called from Argentina on the cheap? That would be the ultimate turnaround the King of Hate let's the Argentinian members fuel him to beat his gacha addiction by using worthless money

IIRC both WWE Supercard and WWE Champions both have been reported to have banned mid-tier whales after they were found abusing Argentinian and some other 3rd world currencies via VPN, can't remember where I read about it, but I think it was around november-december last year.

TLDR: Phil could have payed off the house, but spent the money on jpegs.

Very mahture and ahdult decision!

Makes you wonder how much of this is driven by sunk cost fallacy. Brick brains like Phil are particularly vulnerable to this. “If I quit now, all the money I spent will have been for nothing!”
You know I get it. I have played some of those idle games and after a few days if I have really stuck with it, they might finally get me with those $5 entry level packs. And then when its time that I really get sick of playing it, I have to ask myself if I am okay being out of that $5. So imagine if I spent $50? God I would fucking die.

Here's a question for you - can anyone think of a more pathetic way to blow $150k? If you'd spent it all on coke and hookers, at least you would have had fun. If you walked into a casino and put it all on black, at least you'd have a chance of doubling your money. If you spent it all on gaming statues Funko Pops, at least you could resell them. The only thing I can think of is alcohol, but I don't think even Rekieta could spend that much.

Blowing $150K by donating to the man himself, Phil Burnell.

That was actually one of the reasons there was a lot of pushback initially. Well, that and general reservations about anything Phil related. But there were quite a few people who thought it was just too pathetic/the numbers must be exaggerated and he was spending on something else. It's more or less accepted as fact now, but I think there's still the odd person who proposes the secret retirement fund theory or something similar.

Phil is dropping enough on the game per year to keep the servers open and hire the two minimum wage interns to run it until the tips stop coming in. They even let him change his user handle because he is whaling so much they didnt want to lose him to ''the trolls''
And he's rarely in the top 10 on events. There are dozens of people spending more than him. Even a game you really can't lose, amd Phil still cant do better than 4th place.

i'm all for cherry picking convenient / funny facts, but, i believe he came in first for the meaty muscle men event.

There's events running pretty consistently, Phil usually ranks pretty high, but there's been a few where he's relatively low and I think even a handful where nobody was reporting any activity from his account.

Phil is for sure a whale, but when it comes to mobile game addicts, he's nowhere near 4th place. He'd probably get a mall medal for his efforts, but there are some addicts that absolutely put Phil to shame. Some because they have fuck you levels of money and can afford their addiction, others who are so addicted they pour every last cent in without even having Phil's bare minimum level of responsibility to remember to buy (or doordash) food and at least scramble to stay on top of his bills/rent/booze funds.

It's a large part of why mobile/gacha games like that are considered predatory, and subsequently why they became so popular among developers,

Phil si competing against bored oil princes and Chinese government official children. He can’t match their wallets

They could just be bots to get the real whales spending to get up in the rankings for all we know. These games are as predatory to the whales as Phil is. But that is just a hunch I got.

Source on this?

Phil used to finish events in the top 5, I remember because it was always particularly funny that he seemed to always get 4th place.

Then he began dropping into the top 10, now into the top 20. He's either spending less (my guess) or the other whales are spending more.

It's wild to think 'spending a thousand plus dollars a week is less' but it really is a lower amount than he used to spend, largely.

Back when he was in a guild or whatever and was active on discord for the game he spent FAR more money.
