Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

I’m reading Detective Conan and the Lupin expy is one of those characters I can’t stand. The Gentleman thief archetypes is something I can’t for the life of me understand.

It’s just so obnoxious.

Any suggestions for a manga, something friendly and simple? Preferably short. Looking for a palate cleanser to stuff like Jujutsu Kaisen, basically. Preferably no drama or romance, not focused on comedy, but I'm not sure what thst even leaves left.

Is devilman crybaby any good since i ve wanted to watch it.
No, ad the biggest devilman fan of this website, it isn't, it is so terrible it makes the live action film looks good in comparisson.

When it came out it made me so angry and hate it took years to mellow out my feelings. Everytime I see someone praise it, I know that person cant be trusted

Well, been a while since I've been on this thread.
Finished up Zom 100. So glad it finally pushed it's last episodes before the end of the year. Still think it was the best anime of the year, personally.

And watched The Lights in the Sky Are Stars. That's up there for possibly the best theatrical experience I've ever had in my life. Gurren Lagann is a work of art that is still loved now, and will be loved 50 years from now. I'm honestly shocked we live in a timeline where I got to see it on the big screen.
We might live in objectively fucked times...
But yeah, seeing THIS...

Made me happy to still be alive in a way I haven't in a long while.

Also, I think I'm going to start rewatching Beck tonight. Been meaning to for... jesus a couple of years now. Always was one of my favorites and it has one of the best dubs of all time.

Read or Die the OVA is very good. 3 episodes of cool spy vs. spy action with big stakes, big explosions and even bigger boobies. Read or Die the TV series has too much filler. I'm seven episodes in and there's a threadbare trail of a plot. The first episode was actually very nicely done, but this is just too much. I'll try and finish it soon, but it's getting on my nerves.

Yokohama Kidashi Kikou. It's a very chill and relatively short series. It's a good idea to watch it with a cup of tea or coffee while outside.

Gurren Lagann is the best anime of all time in my opinion. I've never seen an anime that actually inspired me to the degree it does (and have big fat Yoko titties to boot). Still love it and I'll love it to the day I die.

Not gonna lie, seeing Nia's tits on screen in 4K kind of made it significantly harder for me to feel nihilistic about the times we're in.

I'll check it out, sounds nice. Hopefully there's a manga version, I'm feeling like reading (rare lol).
The manga is fantastic. I'd recommend reading it first, THEN watching the OVAs as they skip around to parts in the manga. If you like that, then read/watch Aria.

Piggy backing of of the recent mecha recommendations, go two questions related to two different gundam series
The first is build fighters, I remember watching the first one years ago and not much else. although I have stated to think the concept of using some magic science bullshit to make action figures fight would be kinda cool if they made it into a tabletop 40k wargame knockoff, I might try to watch it again but I have heard through the grapevine that it kinda abandons that in the later and goes full vr video games.
Second is Age, I have seen almost no one talk about and the only things I know about it is that it was kinda sorta created by a game company (Level-5 iirc) and that it gets ragged on for looking like a kids shows, which I already suspect is a red hearing since people told me ZZ and Victory where "made for kids" and there where several moments in both shows that say otherwise.

I hated all the particles shit in BF, thank god in try they just ignore it all and Focus on the story and the tournment.

So the particles bullshit is over already at the first series.

Divers, the one with VR MMO game isnt related to fighters, it is another setting so nothing about it. The sequel re:rise is fucking kino and is the most Gundam out of all build series.

Victory and ZZ were made for kids, the difference is that kids in japan could handle shit better than kids in western countries, even more in cartoon/anime. Age kinda adapts the gundam/z/zz era in a new setting. So you already know some beats

In the literary sense the gentleman thief is used to make a recurring opponent to the detective that can get away without the baggage of hurting other people (and a lot of times his actions are revealed to have good consequences for others). It's not Robin Hood but not Moriarty either. Done right it's cool and breaks monotony.

Though I wouldn't say Lupin is in any way a gentleman, at least the better adaptions.

It looked like shit and felt like it pushed the gay angle way too hard.

You know, it pisses me off how they managed how to update the designs so well to modern day with cyborg 009 vs devilman

And crybaby still had shitty animation, there is a scene where akira rips out Sirene wings and in the next scene where they fall from the sky, the wing is back on there.

Focusing on a lame gay character when other more important characters lacked screen time

Flying Witch which is just 12 episodes of comfy, semi-rural slice-of-life about a witch-in-training from Yokohama moving in with unmagical relatives in northern Honshu with a little magic but nothing in the way of battles.

EDIT: I missed the "manga" part but Flying Witch is a manga (with enough source material for at least one more season beyond where the anime left off).

Your first mistake was thinking the show was a military anime
Yeah, I know. It got better by the end, but not enough for me to take back what I said. I MIGHT watch season 2 since I've already finished S1, but I don't know. I wish it was more like GuP, a fighter plane animu with actual fighters would have been fun
