Lesbians are all about bl. In fact on the Japanese end, most BL creators are lesbians or bi women. According to @Meiwaku an unmarried woman in her 30s or older into BL=lesbian.

I think it's at least partially because a lot of us get into it long before we've accepted our own gayness and it functions as a way to explore homosexuality in a "safe" way that doesn't bring us too close to having to deal with our own.

And yeah, there are gay men into yuri at least.
