Well maybe part of it is his VA from the pilot is currently dying on the streets himself.

There's just too much going on in this series for the episode length. Too many characters to resolve in a decent way. I didn't follow any of the hype and don't get any schadenfreude from the suffering of it's adherents. Really enjoyed episode six. But it feels like between the Extermination plot and the general plot of redeeming people that there is too much going on. Should have been one of the other. Maybe they're focus on the idea that "even if a single daemon can be redeemed (Angel Dust) then that proves the whole thing is a lie. But still, the bartender doesn't need a story. Sir Pentious, however fun, is too much of an extra because there just isn't enough time per episode for everything that they want to do. I do like Adam's character as, literally being the first man and the oldest human angel, that's he a dick and arrogant from being around for so long.

But there's a lack of focus, it should be Charlie vs Adam, or Charlie trying to redeem people.

You know, for all I rant about it here, I do not care as much about this show as I thought I would.
Maybe it's because Helluva Boss vastly lowered my expectations, but HH basically become an 8 episode miniseries (I don't know what the fuck they're going to do in season 2, they already blew past all plotlines in rapid time for season 1) and it's the kind of mediocrity that doesn't really provoke any strong emotions.
The highs are nowhere near the highs of the pilot, and the lows don't reach the REALLY gay shit in Helluva Boss's writing or its generally weepy fanfic vibe, and I swear all the people singing its praises are pre-existing fans who just want this shit out already. How are new viewers supposed to give a shit about Sir Pentious' death or Vaggie's angel past when they've only known them for a few episodes that essentially played in fast forward?

I've said it before, but you could do both. Season 1 focuses on small scale conflict that introduces and builds up our main cast of characters, like having Angel and Pentious do a good chunk of their redemption arcs, plus some of the major side characters, then season 1 ends with Charlie finally meeting Adam and getting that big 'We're coming earlier this year!' for the big dramatic cliffhanger.

It really seems like Viv didn't know if she was going to get a second season and wrote the first to be as self-contained as possible, Viv always had a big issue with writing good pacing, but Hazbin's is flat out atrocious.

I don't think we're even told that Vaggie is (allegedly) a Sinner, that's how terrible the pacing is. To the average viewer who just caught this new series on Amazon Prime they won't even know what Vaggie was lying about specifically, hell we don't even know if Vaggie was straight up lying or just going along with what Charlie thought her past was and was mainly just doing lies of omission. Again this could have been solved by the reveal of Vaggie being an angel being a mid-season 2 twist, and we get her fake backstory in season 1 that's foreshadowed to be a lie by there being a couple major inconsistences in it.

She is also very specifically a 2000's era fujoshi, proudly degenerate and happy to tell haters "don't like, don't read!" All of the drama is kind of fascinating, because it shows an obvious fujo generation gap.

The younger fangirls are so self-conscious that most of them troon out to avoid accusations of being problematic, and they make fanart of their characters as diverse as possible. Meanwhile, Vivzie's work doesn't have any genderspecials, doesn't really have many fats, and there is no vitiligo to be seen.

Yes, most cartoons with substantial backing are made with a second season by default but the HH crew got their extension way too late into production. Cartoons with this style are very expensive to make so no wonder they weren't optimistic about returning.

I sincerely think Angel Dust's arc is the best in the show and really outclasses everyone else by a wide margin. Angel's journey is about accepting his failures and flaws. It's about understanding that he is powerless except in his ability to do good for those around him, then wielding that strength irregardless of the consequences. His personification of virtue is simply a consequence of his actions when he does good, as opposed to his actions being driven by a desire to adhere to virtue. The former composing the true nature of Christianity and the wellspring from which all true good flows. The later representing a lesser version. Angel is the only resident of the hotel to grasp that former approach. As Charlie being the spawn of Lucifer, can understand and act through the later, and try as she might to use it as a path to redemption will inevitably fail.

Angel telling Val to fuck off was also pretty based NGL. I like characters escaping their abusers and telling them exactly where they can shove that shit.

I hope Val gets his just desserts, same with Adam. They're the worst.

The fact other shows have existed with a small amount of time to craft an entire 12 episode show with lore, character development, backstories, side characters that push the plot, and a simple, intriguing plot with an exciting ending twist has been done before really well (Over the Garden Wall comes to mind) without feeling rushed shows that this smaller team and its constrictions can be done really well if you have a team of good passionate writers.

Hazbin doesn't even feel like a coherent story because everything happens sooo fast. Like, a multiple-month time skip being thrown out of the blue in an offhand comment without any foreshading is so bad. Angeldust making "progress" in said offscreen timeskip is bad. Husk criticizes everyone and blatantly states their issues before we know the characters are bad. HOW did any of this go through the draft without someone being like, "Huh. Maybe we shouldn't rush every plot point by the end of the episode?" The show has three writers in total right?

This show could've been great if talented writers who knew how to work on a budget and limited time were put on this project. What good is all this lore, the cards, the live streams, and the influx of characters if they add nothing to the series? I think Viv wanted to see her characters animated and decided to go hog wild and shove in as many as possible (coughMimzycough).

I thought I'd care more about this series, but I just can't. It has potential, but then it speedruns its problems like a Cr1tical live stream. Oh? Something happened that could be an interesting twist? Let's make it so obvious that a 5-year-old could be put together since Vivzie seems to think her audience is lobotomized and incapable of solving mysteries (despite the fact this show is catered to the older Gravity Falls, Untertale, and Adventure time crowd who thrived off that shit).

I don't even hate the show, either. I'm just disappointed that this is supposed to be the future of Indie, and it can't even sort itself out. This is supposed to be the "proof" that small things can make it big with enough talent and grit. But the only talent here is the poor Broadway stars who have to voice act sex and sing about shit sandwiches and raping giant enemy twink spiders.

Yeah it honestly explains a lot. It doesn't help they were only limited to 8 episodes. Viv's inexperience combined with a tight limit made me think she wanted to use this season to get everything she wanted out there.
