Rocksteady teases Suicide Squad game

  • 🔧 At about Midnight EST I am going to completely fuck up the site trying to fix something.
Man this game doesn't pull any punches, all the characters are so badass and edgy, no one is safe.

The Suicide Squad on Journalists
King Shark: "Journalism is one of the highest callings one can have! To inform others! To shed light on misdeeds! To gossip! Courtly gossip can mean the difference between life and death. Even in my home, the words of Lois Lane and Cat Grant are sacrosanct. I am honored to have been able to pass through [the Daily Planet ruins]."

Mauler summed it up pretty well there:

“…you didn’t have to write that.”

When Harley fires her revolver, you can hear a shell casing hit the ground.

A revolver does not eject its shell casings when you fire one. They need to be removed manually.
Should have gotten the austic kid to do the gun modeling working at the 7-11 like Palworld did.

Reviews don't matter if the cattle still end up buying it.

I don't get the outrage over Batmans death. It's called "Kill the Justice League". What did people think would happen after you saw GL, Flash, and WW die? Batman would magically break the mind control and be a good guy again? Why?

Is it the fact he got shot in the head in an alley like his parents? It's like pottery. Is it cuz It's Harley Quinn? What exactly is the issue that people are pissed off at? He got his honorable death already. Twice.

If the professional critics are actually, for once, going hard on a bad game made by both a AAA studio and Sweet Baby Inc. then I can only imagine what the User Scores are going to be. When your game is so bad that it makes critics be honest for once.
Not hard enough.

I don't get the outrage over Batmans death.
Because of the how not the why.

It’s not that he got killed. It’s that they spent the majority of the scene going “lol you such and were a terrible superhero, we are so much better than you”.

Flash literally gets pissed on, Green Lanturn gets shit on for being a “space cop”…but WW gets a long drawn out tragic self-sacrifice scene where all the villian who’ve been shitting on all the heroes the whole time make sure to let you know just how cool and inspiring she is to them.

WW is the only hero none of the villains have interacted with one on one. CC is in Flash's rogue gallery so that makes sense in an edgy game. GL and Deadshot talk to each other like they have a history, which is weird but you don't expect criminals to shit on cops? Is it feminist bullshit? Yeah. But in world all of those things made sense.

And tell me where the lie was with Harley's speech to Batman? Look, he's my favorite superhero but everything she said was true.

Its not a big deal for me. I just view the whole story as an esleworlds/what if story. But that sounds like the catch with this game. The story is too extreme and over the top with its presentation and the way it treats its characters. It's hard to care and get invested, and this is a 70 dollar game not a one shot comic you pick up for a couple of bucks to read on the toilet.

It isn't a "where's the lie" scenario. Batman's death is completely ignoble and isn't even drawing on the "humor" that many are insisting the game even has.

Many have noted that Harley's "It's our turn now" is straight up Sweet Baby's writers channeling their own thoughts and feelings through Harley. They're killing a beloved icon and they're doing it in the most disrespectful way possible. And it doesn't seem to be serving any purpose other than to be spiteful to the people playing the game.

So? That didn't stop Joker from wanting to kill Catwoman in Arkham City. "Twinkle, twinkle little bat. Watch me kill your favorite cat."
WW is friends with Batman, Flash and Green Lantern. She is also a good guy who stands in their way in normal circumstances. That should be enough for them to see her as an enemy. Instead they hero worship her and make an expectation for her because vagina. It is cringe and pathetic. It doesn't make sense. There is nothing in this game to defend so don't even bother.

Why was the brainwashing even there? They are villains, why not have them do villain stuff and win?

I can't imagine why people have a problem with the send off for the protagonist of the series they like treating said character like crap, dying surrounded by a bunch of terribly written dumbasses, with none of the characters who'd give a shit involved in the story at all.

Regarding Batman's death, I'm still trying to figure out how Harleen Quinzel of all people figured out how to create a new batch of Scarecrow's fear toxin by pulling 3 levers, and these levers not only change the fear toxin so much that Batman, who spent an entire game becoming immune to it, is now vulnerable to it, but also the rest of the Suicide Squad just... isn't?

Also my biggest gripe with Batman's death is that Harley's revolver ejects a bullet casing after she fires it.

dunno if this was posted yet, if it was, apologies, but I just saw it and it's only a day old.

when Gotham Knights came out everyone was doing those "THESE GAMES ARE 9 YEARS APART" comparing Gotham Knights to Arkham Knights visuals. fair enough, now someone has done it with Arkham Knight and Suicide Squad.

like I said before, just wait till Rocksteady comes out and shows em how it's done...

Because Batman is only immune to his fear toxin, while this is Harley's special batch that she, the notorious chemist she is, mixes together by having the squad turn on the mixers in the room that she has no input on. It makes sense if you hit your head a few more times.

What's Harley's backstory at this point? Some kind of psychologist? Whole thing's pretty doubtful.

As far as the actual Arkham games went, it was pretty close to the Mad Love story from the DCAU. Harley is a psychiatrist intern at Blackgate (I think she was a full psychiatrist at Arkham Asylum itself in the DCAU) and later Arkham once it's opened, she meets Joker, he charms her, and she becomes his obsessed sidekick we all know and used to love.
In the DCAU she was strongly implied to have gotten through college by sleeping with her professors. I forget if that was implied in Arkham's little bios and things, but she's generally considered a dimwit in the games, so it wouldn't be a stretch.

Of course Sweet Baby probably did what modern writers have done and turned her into some perfect Mary Sue lesbian weirdo.

The writers are even dumber than she is. Any fear toxin that would work on Batman (whose willpower renders him incredibly resistant to fear toxins) would literally drive anyone else completely insane. Which is literally what happens in Arkham Knight; Scarecrow's new super-strength toxin causes hallucinations for Batman, but the thugs around the city completely lose their minds almost immediately when it hits them.

I think the Kevin Conroy aspect is a big part of it, everyone loved the guy, and to see his legacy treated like this is upsetting to a lot of people.

Apparently (and I don't have a source for this, it's just hearsay) Conroy originally signed on for this game because he found the idea of playing a villain interesting. Which does kind of track with his backstory; when Conroy originally auditioned for Batman the Animated Series, he auditioned to voice a bunch of villains, and wasn't a fit for any of them. It was actually the producers who told him something like "The show's called Batman, don't you want to try voicing the main character?" and that's how he ended up in the iconic role.

Nerd time on superhero meta: Outside of everything else... what do people think of the Justice League being only the five members of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern (I know it's John but still). Essentially, the JL founders with consistent solo titles since the 1930s-40s, regardless of which Flash or Lantern it is.

It's interesting to me because IMO those are the absolute core of a quintessential DCU that the rest of a mainstream 'verse springs from. They form the League which Aquaman and Martian Manhunter join (Arthur's struck me as more sensibly a team/ensemble hero a la MM to justify his being above water, it doesn't make sense for him to have a big solo career on land) and Robin and other sidekicks form the Titans (be it Fab Five or New Titans). Then those two teams are what other heroes or teams revolve around and/or join.
