Anime/Manga - Discuss Japanese cartoons and comics here; NO CULTURE WAR DOOMPOSTING!

Nothing good comes of live action adaptations.
One of the funnier things about studios like Netflix making live action anime adaptations and the western fanbase whining about it is knowing how incredibly awful Japan's attempts at the same have historically been.

What was always strange to me was how frequently the live action characters felt more cartoony and less human than the actual cartoons.

The thing a lot of weebs forget is that adult fans of anime are extremely looked down upon by Japanese society and they assume any built-in market wanting to watch their actors adapt a cartoon has the mental capacity of a grade schooler.

It is truly sad. There are great stories that if given the time and care, would be amazing in live action. Fate is one. The most it ever got was a cringe stage play for Grand Order. I would pay good money though to see a live action adaption of F/sn. If they could sell superheroes to the public, anime isn't a much further stretch. Give me 10 movies or some shit in a big series.

If you think fate would work on live action then you have no fucking idea about what you are talking about. In most cases it barely works as anime since it needs time to dwelve on lots of things.

I just finished the volume 1 of Devilman G, wow that was good. They took various concepts from other devilman series like Jun fudo and Aoi from devilman lady being teachers at Miki and Akira School and they being lesbians lovers (in devilman lady, Aoi wants to rape the shit out of jun so she merges with a demon to have a cock to rape her). They changed quite a bit of the mythology for the better, making demons to be on actual hell and they can be summoned by humans via imagination. The gore and action is quite good, they use elements from the 70s anime like the attack names but remix it in a manga way. The story is quite different tho and I am really enjoying. Lets see how they do the rest of the story. Lots of cameos too from other nagai series.

Abd there is a mystery part that left me quite curious to see where they are taking the story in the next volumes.

I think if you kept the beats of the anime, say UBW, and put good actors in that arent cringe, it could. It would have to have a absurd special effect budget, but it could be done. Also I consider the anime to be superior in a lot of ways- nasu is a fucking rambler that doesn't know how to trim the fat

Kinda like the Live action version of Aoi Honoo but I fully admit it would of been better as an anime
case and point

There's also Old Boy, although I've never actually read the original manga and just know it was the Koreans that added incest instead of the Japanese this time.
Also kinda unrelated but speaking of jap live action adaptations I found this awhile ago and couldn't help asking why

This is a japanes drama series called Columbo of Shinano, and yes the whole gimmick is literally what if columbo was japanese

The best live action manga adaptation is Old Boy and it isn't even close.
I don't know what's wrong with you retards wanting something like Fate to be adapted to live action as opposed to something a little more based in reality like MONSTER.

I keep forgetting Old Boy was a manga adaption.

Went on a weird rant in Japanese society about stereotyping over a child serial killer. Then they went on ranting about anime fans in the 80s and 80s speaking out on censoring western feminism and anime having a pro-capitalistic message. Than un-anime related anti-capiralism rant. I personally find it pretty suspicious that kaiserbeamz sounds sympathetic towards the Otaku killer.

Any suggestions for a manga, something friendly and simple? Preferably short. Looking for a palate cleanser to stuff like Jujutsu Kaisen, basically. Preferably no drama or romance, not focused on comedy, but I'm not sure what thst even leaves left.
The Miyazaki manga are quite nice:

There's also Chibi Maruko-chan, which is a much longer manga, but only 14 chapters are in English:

Netflix in general sucks at it, the problem is even worse with Manhwa (Korean Manga), best example being what they did to Itaewon Class.

A lot of seinen as well some josei do, the ones the aren't too heavy on fantasy elements tend to get live action adaptations give or take. The biggest one that I can think of off the top of my head is Lone Wolf and Cub which has had 9 or 10 live action adaptations, but the closest it has ever gotten to an anime adaptation is a samurai jack refence and a gintama parody episode. Aside from that I know The Drops of God has 2.5 live action tv series (half was a a kdrama that was cut a few weeks before it aired) and will probably never get an anime. and saint oniisan, that sol about Jesus and Buddha living together as roommates has 3 or 4 seasons when iirc anime wise it has a few ONA and a movie. And iirc there's this series called Kodoku no Gourmet, that if I'm not confusing it with the other series about a salaryman eating food (Oishinbo), it has about 9 seasons finding hole in the wall restaurants on his way home from work.
I was actually presently surprised something like Blue Giant got an anime film recently because the way the story is set up, I honestly was expecting it to get a live action instead.

Flying Witch which is just 12 episodes of comfy, semi-rural slice-of-life about a witch-in-training from Yokohama moving in with unmagical relatives in northern Honshu with a little magic but nothing in the way of battles.

EDIT: I missed the "manga" part but Flying Witch is a manga (with enough source material for at least one more season beyond where the anime left off).
Let me recommend Hakumei and Mikochi:

I've got a good amount of stuff to check out now, I am sure at least one of them will click, thanks.

Damn, imagine paying over $30 to talk to an AI girl lol
