Rocksteady teases Suicide Squad game

Nerd time on superhero meta: Outside of everything else... what do people think of the Justice League being only the five members of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, and Green Lantern (I know it's John but still). Essentially, the JL founders with consistent solo titles since the 1930s-40s, regardless of which Flash or Lantern it is.

It's interesting to me because IMO those are the absolute core of a quintessential DCU that the rest of a mainstream 'verse springs from. They form the League which Aquaman and Martian Manhunter join (Arthur's struck me as more sensibly a team/ensemble hero a la MM to justify his being above water, it doesn't make sense for him to have a big solo career on land) and Robin and other sidekicks form the Titans (be it Fab Five or New Titans). Then those two teams are what other heroes or teams revolve around and/or join.
Seems fine to me, the other JL members have always kind of rotated in and out. When I think about all the great lineups, 7 always seemed like too small of a number.

You are seeing a lot of tourists and soyboys coming out of the wood work to defend this game saying that the game is; "Overhated" and "Good actually". I expect a lot of salt from the positive reviews on Metacritic come tomorrow.

Tons of ways this could have been done respectfully. I'd have set it up like this scene from JLA:

View attachment 5682995

Just reverse the seats. Harley tells the other SS members to leave and they give her a moment with Batman. Then, she sits next to him and after a long pause they have a heart-to-heart. Eventually Bruce, the real Bruce, tells Harley she has no choice but to kill him or Brainiac will force him to do evil things in the future. So Harley shoots him, but cries as she does it, finding it far more difficult than she had first imagined.
This right here sums it up perfectly. It's basically the exact same issue I had with the Star Wars sequel trilogy killing off beloved characters.

I actually didn't really care that Luke became a bitter jaded asshole and died. It's the HOW and WHY. The idea itself isn't a bad one it's how it's handled.
The entire problem with how Batman goes out in this game is there is no emotional weight or depth to it at all. The same could go for the rest of the Justice League but Batman especially since we've been playing as him for pretty much every other game set in this particular universe.

When you kill off a beloved character you can't just go "Bam! Oops, guess they're dead now... Anyway." it really just shows that the developers didn't give a single shit and didn't care enough to actually write an engaging death scene. Hell it borders on spiteful as others in this thread have pointed out.

I'm no writer so I can't fix the scene for them but the thing I'm replying to is probably the closest thing I could think of. It definitely would've been more meaningful and emotional than just executing him like a dog. And hell it even gives Harley actual character development.

Shame this isn't what we got. Imagine what it could've been.

" Y'know Bats... I thought this is what I always would've wanted. "

" But it's not... is it? "

"... No.... "

It’s not that he got killed. It’s that they spent the majority of the scene going “lol you such and were a terrible superhero, we are so much better than you”.

Flash literally gets pissed on, Green Lanturn gets shit on for being a “space cop”…but WW gets a long drawn out tragic self-sacrifice scene where all the villian who’ve been shitting on all the heroes the whole time make sure to let you know just how cool and inspiring she is to them.
It's infuriating because you know WW was coddled only because of her gender.

I think he's lurking on the farms, somewhere
As is Synthetic Man as both Gundam and Synth have admitted to lurking here in the past. If Gundam was this harsh on the game I can only imagine how enraged Synth will be at both this game and its defenders. Lot of edgelords and soyboys coming out of the wood work to do damage control for this game. Also, strangely there is no reviews right now for this game on Steam while Persona 3 just came out and already has a Overwhelming Positive score on Steam. WB is doing a ton of damage control right now. :story:

Oy vey. You see what I see too right?

I don't get the outrage over Batmans death. It's called "Kill the Justice League". What did people think would happen after you saw GL, Flash, and WW die? Batman would magically break the mind control and be a good guy again? Why?

Is it the fact he got shot in the head in an alley like his parents? It's like pottery. Is it cuz It's Harley Quinn? What exactly is the issue that people are pissed off at? He got his honorable death already. Twice.
It's the fact that it's shit and the game is shit.

Also they're working with the established Arkham version of the character which was really most people's ideal version of the character. So new devs that are all black niggers and feminists killing an iconic male hero out of spite for one of the most beloved franchises of the last two gens feels in very poor taste.

Gonna go out on a limb and suggest that Rocksteady's current crop of trannies and danger hairs have never heard of MM and all they know about Aquaman is it's associated with Amber Turd, giving them PTSD over her being raked over the coals or something. Really, all they know is gooning to Harley. Everything else can just be dildos on a whiteboard, as evidenced by state of the game and absolute state of the studio.

I'd argue that they went out of their way to shit on the main four of the original Justice League and missed out on MM thanks to Wuflu. They made sure it was John Stewart they killed instead of Hal Jordan for a reason.

What's the deal with termites coming out to defend Suicide Squad all the time? It was the same way with the original movie despite how awful it obviously was. Then all these people mysteriously disappear when the new Suicide Squad movie comes out because they memory hole the last one.

Really strikes me as the current year mindset. The NPCs defend X but quickly forget about it and rush to defend something else. They have zero investment in these franchises.

"Some parts made me laugh"

Gman is such a brain dead shill :story:

If that turns out to be the swan song for the DCAU justice league saving the day I would be extremely happy. Keeping expectations low but I hope they went big.

Im surprised it took so long for them to do an animated adaptation of one of DC's most iconic stories.
Then again, maybe Im still spiteful over Injustice getting screwed over in the animated departament but they really should have done the whole "parts" thing with injustice first. The Injustice movie was a mash of shit from the comics and the games with little coherence.
If they actually gave a dam they could have tried to redo the mocap or at least the voice acting to make it more respectful.

Apparently if I'm remembering the leaks right, the bare minimum they did was remove a scene where they carve an insignia into his chest and an explicit corpse for Robin.

Maybe there was a blackout and its implied Harley couldnt bring herself to do it so they just settled on restraining him and maybe you get a new mission to find a way to at least free Bruce how the mind control.

There were many ways you could have written around Kevin Conroy's death but I guess it would have taken from their precious vision.
Makes me think the original vision was closer to a conventional single player game and as the name implies your Suicide Squad would lose characters as the story progressed. As soon as they decided it needed 4 player co-op that was gone.

Honestly, a game where the Suicide Squad is larger with more expendable members could work and...lets face it, fighting a mind controlled JUSTICE LEAGUE that wouldnt be holding back would really lead into many deaths.

I can imagine that Superman would have an instant kill move where he flies away for a few seconds and you have only instants to dodge before he speed blitz you into a bloody mess. Its hard to imagine a move of his that wouldnt be an instant kill to be honest, unless there is some red sun radiation stuff weakening his attacks.
This title of this clip is so accurate, and just makes the fact that this game was originally supposed to be a Superman one even sadder.
Say what you want, but at least Rocksteady did understand who Superman really was. That underneath all his inhuman strength, and power, he was just a wholesome farm boy from Kansas.

I get that its suppose to add to the tragedy of killing them but watching this just makes you wish we got a Superman game or a J.L game instead.

Surprised they didnt do a "Superman is fighting the mind control and thats why he doesnt instantly kills us when he easily could" revelation.
Even then, Spiderman 2 sold worse than Spiderman 1 and I believe even Miles Morales. So yeah, not what investors would necessarily call successful.

One of my theories is because the number of people that own a PS5 is still pretty low compared to how many own a PS4 and that factors into sales. Doesnt help that all the controversies did pile up to at least do some level of damage to the sales.
I'm tired of mean-spirited media in general. I'm tired of edgelords, nihilism, cynicism, "gritty realism", and shock-value content. It stopped being interesting thirty years ago. Call me a fag, but I'd take an idealistic wholesome story over a "dark", and "realistic" one now any day.

This is one of the reasons why I think Nintendo consoles and games still sell gangbusters, their content kept a traditional edge for decades. Mario and Link are still one of the most iconic heroes in gaming for a reason, there isnt much ambiguity over their heroic nature and they always fight for whats right.

It's been a while so I forget the term, but there was a psych theory that in each life stage in our lives we have different needs that must be met or face "stagnation" or some shit.

This theory also posits that if your entire life is stagnation, then nostalgia is the only cope you have.

"Anti-hero". There's nothing about the Suicide Squad that's anti-hero, they're full on villains.

But I guess "modern audiences" don't wanna associate with villains, so we have the fucked to death so much they lost their meaning terms like anti-heroes.
The writers heard the term antihero and thought it directly meant hating heroes and wanting to (figuratively and literally) piss on their corpses.
I'll agree with them on one point: it is visually stunning, in that each time I watch footage I'm stunned at what a UI and particle effect clusterfuck the fights are. I was never the biggest Borderlands fan, but at least when I played 2, eons ago, I could see what the fuck was actually going on.

I'm stunned at how flat the environments are. There are games from over a decade ago that look better. I'm by no means a graphics whore but this is shameful.
