The year is 2024 and Sony has made the brave decision to get back to publishing fun games. Goodbye Jim Ryan!

Helldivers 2 is the sequel to the PS4 top-down co-op shooter, Helldivers. It's heavily inspired by Starship Troopers but you shoot robots as well as bugs. You will also command a starship, which you can customize in a variety of ways, that's being manned by NPC's. Friendly fire is always on, so you know what to do when you see anyone with a furry avatar.

The game is due to release in February 8th.

I've never played Helldiver before, but I been intrigued by it whenever I see it. Seeing the trailer that came out for Helldiver 2 is making more interested in jumping into the series and trying it out. Do like the Starship Trooper inspiration the game has.

I could be wrong though, but Helldiver 2 gives me a little vibes of another third person shooter game EDF .

Also here is a extended gameplay/deepdive video:

The first one was a lot of fun with friends. The game was designed with as many ways to accidently friendly fire your team as possible, but not sure how that would translate to full 3D.

Unfortunately, I'm not getting this one. I was hyped about it, but the people I played the original with say they won't buy it because of the "war bonds" system. Which a quick google search claims is your typical micro transaction system.

Oh, that's the game with the mixed race propaganda, right?
That's the only thing I remember out of this one, looked generic as all hell.
If it's what I remember, just play EDF instead
How long until we get another Killzone game?
It's not Spiderman or Last of Us so never. Soyny has no other IPs, remember?

shadowfall underperformed and we won't get guerilla making anything other than horizon games for the foreseeable future. shame too because that's a series that had real heart put into it. because it was some tiny euro studio when the series launched they had to bring on artists and developers who had no video game experience and were coming from other fields. quite a few architects got brought on to the art team because they know how to use computers for design and that's why a ton of the equipment, weapons, and vehicles in the series aren't just generic sci-fi but also extremely practical. They would ask "how are 5 space nazis going to fit into that ship when it flies in to drop them off? But how are the bullets coming out of that gun? If the ships propulsion is there how can the ship even take off?"

just some really cool stuff that breathes life into the world. Unfortunately they had to make the bad guys look #toocool because you'll never get to play as them and they're now forever stuck in a series that likely won't come back. Feel the same about inFamous. So much cool stuff you could do with it, but one game underperforms and you'll probably never see another one again. Maybe it's what should happen but also to that point: why does it happen to the interesting series instead of some of these ones that continue to get pulled along. Maybe they felt they had to get rid of inFamous from the catalogue because Spider Man games were coming and they could be considered a competitor.

On the topic of Helldivers i'm really excited. I LOVE the first game and played it quite a bit, but my friend group refused to play it for some reason. I don't think they like top downs as much. I'm hoping they might bite if it's 3d since that's more up their alley. I'll miss the top down shooting mechanics tho.

You could just watch the trailer.

It looks like a pretty fair system though. The director said it's not p2w and it's like a battle pass that never expires. I see no problem with it being in the game.

first one is great, however it's a very special type of co-op game that might not click with everybody. first and foremost the shared screen.
and being co-op of course means randoms which can be hit or miss if you don't have a roster of friends to play with.

EDIT:
gonna wait and see how the translation into 3D turned out, performance mostly. first game had very little demand due to it's nature.
as for monetization and progression, I'm a bit spoiled by dead war so gonna take a closer look at that first.

It's a shame we won't be fighting commie cyborgs from what the trailer shows. I hope this one is good. I had a lot of fun with the first one.

It seems their battlepasses are permanent and can be done whenever like how Halo Infinite does it, which is good. Unfortunately the game is broken on PC and has nGuard which is a rootkit tier anti-cheat.

As far as the optimisation game's running fine for me on a 3060, get around 100fps on high settings. Haven't encountered any crashes so far.

However I seem to be having a different problem to other people, I can't connect to other players. A second after finding a game on quickplay it tells me I cannot join.

Is Helldivers 2 Sony's "we have Halo Infinite at home"? I don't remember the art style being this soulless.
I played the first one once, then got kicked by the host for no reason.

from my experience the first helldivers was such a who gives a shit game that there wasn't really anything to go on. they should have called this game something cool like BATTLEBUG CHASERS

To be fair, you get enough Super Credits from the free warbond rewards to purchase the paid one. I'm not a fan off battle passes, but at least the free one here is pretty generous.

depends, can you get the same bonus ingame just with a different look?

Yes, one of the first medium armors you unlock is identical in stats, it just has slightly different colors.

I played a little bit of the first Helldivers and thought it was just alright. Having everyone restricted to being within one screen width from your team mates was a big turnoff. Granted, I'd been spoiled by Alien Swarm by the time I played it.

I've enjoyed the few hours I've spent with Helldivers 2 with a group of friends so far. It's a better Starship Troopers game than Extermination and runs far smoother. The drop music has a strong Klendathu Drop motif to it and I enjoy the dystopian humor the game has. The only bugs (glitches) I've run across so far is distant terrain shifting around and some quick play matchmaking issues, but I've seen a lot less of the latter today. I can't imagine this game is very enjoyable (if even feasible) to play solo due to how fragile you are and how overwhelming the enemies can become, especially on higher difficulties.
