That Corvette was a 500 ton ~40 year old design that was swarmed by at least 10 low observable suicide boats with multi hundred pound warheads. It also had an extremely limited AA armament and a rather light anti surface armament as well, excepting it's 4 anti ship missiles which aren't very useful against the essentially non-existent Ukrainian Navy.

Wasn't it a Tarantul-I class? I've been onboard one, it's an ex-East German vessel at Battleship Cove in Massachusetts. It's not a ship meant for any sort of close-in fighting, it's a cheap AShM lobber meant to be deployed alongside bigger ships or in packs to harass NATO convoys.

Sinking one of those with 10 suicide boats is pure overkill. I'd argue the Ukies actually wasted those suicide boats.

Maybe it was bait? Ukraine seems to use its heavy hitters on even the smallest thing, so floating an unmanned derelict that was going to be decommissioned would give a better picture of what weapons Ukraine has.

In ship terms, 500 tons is really the bare minimum displacement needed to be considered a truly ocean-going craft.

Just to make the point further, it's hard to grasp navy tonnage unless you are a ship autist, but 500 tons is considered really tiny.
The most produced destroyer class, Fletcher was 2100 tons.


Most produced corvette class, Flower was 925 tons.


Halving the tonnage makes the ship much smaller in practice.

A guerrilla campaign in the modern era in a flat, historically indefensible shithole like Ukraine is never going to happen, even discounting the lack of religious fanaticism, low value on life, massive differences in culture and language between invader/invadee and a plethora of other factors.

That, and they've got options. A Ukrainian guerrilla could just hop the border to the EU or even build a life in Russia like millions of other Ukrainians.

Oh man, I was just coming to post this lol. Yeah, these fuckers have no concept of how modern wars work. Hell, just listen to how they talk about the counteroffensives. They thought Ukraine was going to magically reorganize their obliterated military and push all the way to Moscow as if they were the Rohirrim in Lord of the Rings. No thought to logistics, ammunition, fuel, nothing. Just keep sending missles and it'll all work out.

Not with an AK-176. It's a good naval gun, but it's not the sort of weapon you'd want for any sort of shore bombardment. My money's on what @Betonhaus said, it was likely an unmanned derelict meant to make the Ukies waste not (easily) replaceable hardware on a ship that Russia had no more use for.

Rheinmetal is reintroducing the Panther 2.0 in Hungary and are thinking about putting it in Hoholistan too, but it will take 2 to 5 years. Even then, it will need time to build up numbers, and the Hohols are being optimistic as fuck if they think they'll last that long. Also they furried up the Panzer. Hohols, man.



The tank will be the first NATO tank to have automated ammo loader. Just 40 years or more behind the Soviets.
I don't expect the Ukraine to exist as a nation by the time this becomes widespread.

It has some anti drone system and its own drones, but it is at least half a decade away. And cruise missiles with 60km range. But even if all that works as intended, it won't be hitting any battlefield for years. Hoholistan is going belly up before the Panther returns from its long exile. Even then, it won't stand up to artillery, and Russia has that in spades.
