Not Just Bikes / r/fuckcars / Urbanists / New Urbanism / Car-Free / Anti-Car - People and grifters who hate personal transport, freedom, cars, roads, suburbs, and are obsessed with city planning and urban design

Just an old industrial area that is in the process of being gentrified (e.g. the flour mill looks like it's been converted to retail). It also has a freight rail line. Why does he act like an industrial area in a city is horrible?

This is even more proof he just hates cars and the US and doesn't actually care about walkability.
Don’t you understand Chud? Industry is bad and they should get real jobs, like making YouTube videos, writing software, or looking at Excel and Outlook 8 hours a day.

But really, every industrial region of a city that actually is industrial (not some neighborhood of brick factories with fading paint that have been converted into cafes) is going to consist of massive amounts of large, horizontally scaling tilt ups, arranged in a grid, wide roads to accommodate trucks/oversized loads, gas stations everywhere, loud noises, freight lines where you can get stuck waiting for a train to pass for 10 minutes, shipping depots, and four way intersections (semis are NOT going to make it around a circle).

And you aren’t going to get rid of them ever if you don’t want your industry to fail. And those areas also serve as bus barns and service centers for metro equipment. I don’t know much about Europe but I have to imagine that their trains and busses have to go somewhere for the night too! Large substations, concrete plants, recycling centers, ironworks, where are these supposed to go? People still think that steamstacks create pollution, you aren’t going to mixed use an industrial district.

And parking lots. Sprawling parking lots only can exist when land is cheap. Once land becomes more expensive the land gets sold off at profit and parking lots start scaling vertically with multiple stories. Once the land becomes very expensive and desirable, the parking lots are gotten rid of completely or move underground.

Jason dislikes McKinney, TX's historic downtown because they have a parking garage on the outskirts:
Damn, I like McKinney. If he was going to shit on any historic downtown in the area it should be Grapevine since their main street sidewalks are more narrow than my urethra. Of course, he wouldn't know that since he never actually went and experienced either, and is just shitting on them based on stock footage.

First off, US and the EU have different towing rules and this article does a good job summarizing the differences:
US tow safety prioritizes a naturally safe dynamic situation so that more people can pull at freeway speeds with less likelihood of incident. There is no doubt that using this method results in an inherently safer tow situation as it relates to vehicle dynamics.

UK tow safety allows for the possibility to carry more weight, but erring on the side of caution with far less safety margin in respect to the physics.

Bottom line - Can a tow vehicle pull a heavier trailer there than is rated for here in the US? Yes, with some provisions:
  1. The closer the trailer weight gets to the vehicle weight the slower you will need to drive.
  2. DO NOT exceed 65 mph with a tongue weight in the 4-7% range, this is a guaranteed way to sway and 65 is the max, go slower in regards to #1.
  3. None of this takes into account crosswinds, cooling systems, hp, or braking effectiveness (or legality).
Europeans! Be proud that you can pull that huge caravan with your tiny car.

Americans! Be proud you can pull more weight in total and with a greater degree of safety and at higher speeds than our Euro friends.

Note: DON’T assume for one second, Americans, that you can simply use Europe as a guide to towing above your limit, its not going to be safe at our speeds DON’T put me and my family in danger or embarrass us in front of the other countries.
I see you're not familiar with European tow ratings. According to them, you can tow a car with a van or even a small sedan. Since most /r/fuckcars users are either Europeans or American basement dwellers who get all their opinions from said Europeans, if you pointed that out they would likely make some snide comment about how Europeans can tow just fine without some hulking truck like the dumb Americans need. The Europeans standards are less safe, especially if the tower decides to drive at normal freeway speeds, which is why their laws limit the speed of a towing vehicle to 60 MPH or less in an effort to compensate. The American way is always safer though, even at low speeds.

Keep that in mind when you read their comments.

Someone points out that OP's trailer can't carry a significantly sized boat and ends up having an argument with an antisocial vegan:

First off, the farmers are protesting at the EU parliament. They aren't blocking random roads preventing normal people from moving around the city. One group is inconveniencing only the powerful while the other group is inconveniencing only the powerless. They're not the same.

It's not like anyone wants a train ride to Wheatfield, Indiana.
In my experience you build from somewhere people are to somewhere that people want to go, but you also build stations in sleepy towns along the way which gives them access to those locations as well. Where I live has nothing going on but the train station is on a line connecting a major city to a popular holiday town and one stop away from a main line connection which can get me straight down to London, I don't really know why I'd need to go there but it's good that I have the option.
you'd think shopping malls would be totally okay since it's a wholly pedestrianized area with trendy shops, but whatever.
The shopping mall was also invented by a European sort-of socialist, they should be all over it since the entire mall acts as a third space to do all your third space things in.
I like how the 2nd guy just calls the whole sub a bunch of kiddie fiddlers.

A few weeks ago I was first introduced to anti-car stuff with a video about how extended cab pickup trucks and SUVs are evil murder machines. My main takeaway from the video is that smug liberals would have their opinions better received by people who aren’t smug liberals if they could just stop being smug liberals for more than 15 seconds. I totally agree that living in the city and driving an SUV is silly, but if you think that is a reason to restrict people’s freedom to drive what they want you’re just a FAGGOT.

There were a bunch of local farmers/truckers protesting in Leipzig several weeks back. They just drove around in the downtown area tooting their horns. No roads were blocked, no regular people were inconvenienced.
Meanwhile, the subhumans gluing their hands to roads have blocked ambulances with their emergency lights on MULTIPLE TIMES. Someone ought to take this trash and glue it to the inside of a half filled dumpster before closing the lid, locking it with a padlock, and then smashing the key.

It's crazy to me how retarded white libs got away with blocking entire highways back in 2020 over a single dead nigger.

They talk HSR and other trains should only be going to major metropolitan area point to point, never about the smaller towns left out in the cold, while simultaneously condemning the fact that trains don't go to every wayward village anymore.

That's the real advantages highways have. Don't want to stop in a podunk town? You don't have to, but anyone from that town can access the same highway you do. (Freeways in small towns have kind of developed into a split personality for the small towns, there's the side with the fairly modern gas stations, fast foods, etc. while the other side is the actual downtown and surrounding stores).

(I know some these examples are weak, but this was literally 5 minutes of searching)
Yeah, let's all be like... Calgary, a famously livable city. :shit-eating:
Like pre-car streets being busy, dangerous, smelly, and dusty
They never heard of highway men before which were the pre-car version of carjackers.
The idea of self-driving cars does kinda creep me out, but....
How would that even work lol, wouldn't it just lead to killing all the vehicle occupants plus the pedestrian? Or maybe veer the car off the road before it could hit the pedestrian, even if it was off a cliff??

That these faggots think it's a good idea to haul heavy loads at US highway speeds with a small car shouldn't be terribly surprising. We've seen pictures of their cargo bikes, doing the bicycle equivalent of pulling an 8000 lb trailer with a honda civic.

If I didn't know that doing so would endanger lives, I'd encourage these idiots to try hauling European weight ratings with their little cars at US highway speeds. Rate me rainbows all you want, but maybe by the 2nd or 3rd time they jack-knife on the highway, the retardation will be scared out of them.

EU rules are asking to kill your little Volkswagen or Volvo carrying a boat, even at recommended speeds. I'm not even talking engine power, I'm talking frame strength. A truck is built tougher with better suspension. The ride towing that boat is going to be horrible.

If I want to drive a turbine powered pickup i built myself from a box of scraps and mount a twin linked AR-10 in 308 on the back, much less a land rover, I should be able to. I hate this anti freedom crowd so fucking much. Size is also practically. It means you have the ability to do more, carry more, have a bigger engine. Fuck off.

Europoors and towing posts are always classic ragefuel/idiot bait. My favourite is when they say ''I tow just fine with a station wagon'' and then post a pic of them pulling a tiny U-haul type trailer with an E550

Yes let me just go out and buy a 100,000 dollar German moneypit to pull my stuff with! I'm sure I can pull a 19-foot center console up a slippery ramp with this thing! Very good financial sense, much money wow!

We have many people that own either trucks for international transport (SCANIA, MAN)or vans (Volkswagen, IVECO, ISUZU). But indeed less pick-ups. The thing is most people are able to transport more stuff in vans than in trucks and also we rarely tow things.
Maybe that's why.
