It's amazing to me how Greer is able to feel like he's being victimized by the legal process that he started and refuses to stop. Also, I bet the lawyers that he's been cold calling quickly found out about the IOLTA and told Greer they are going to need a bigger retainer then what they would usually offer for a quickie divorce.

Is Hardin pointing out Greer hasn't actually taken steps to get these lawyers likely to be enough to get the court to rule in Moon's favor?
Probably not the first time but if he keeps it up, yes. Also his argument about how the case spent two years on appeal isn't an argument in his favor. It's an argument it's time to get things on the road.

Court proceedings are public and copyright free, correct? Someone could compile all these and print them in a book?
Yes. There's actually a case about it. Law databases were sued for copyright infringement over holding the plaintiff's copyrighted briefs in their archives. Judge in New York dismissed it finding it to be obvious fair use. White v. W. Publ'g Corp., 12 Civ. 1340 (JSR) (S.D.N.Y. Jul. 3, 2014). It is also "clear that the courts of this country recognize a general right to inspect and copy public records and documents,' including judicial records and documents", and while the right is not unlimited, it would also seem to favor your idea. See, Nixon v. Warner Communications, Inc., 435 U.S. 589 (1978)

As is, many different services already compile such works such as Westlaw, Justia, CourtListener, and many more. I certainly don't see why putting it in a book would be any different. If anything, to make the book readable, you probably would be only including excerpts, which would only bolster your claim of fair use.
Wait. He wants a cut of the $150k because there is a caricature of him on the fund site? Holy shit. :story:
While he certainly complained about his image being used whilst raising the money, he only asked for time to raise his own funds.

He did say "Defendants have raised $150,000 off of Greer. Plaintiff has seen none of that money for having his likeness or copyrights used." which implies that he feels entitled to a portion of it.

If something has died, that implies that it was alive at some point. Russell, you never HAD a songwriting career to begin with.

he is/was a songwriter for sure, but he never made any money from it so calling it a career is a stretch

I can't get over he expects the defendants he is targeting in his lawsuit to be lenient with him because he's pro se! Like how dare we defend ourselves by any legal means necessary?? "HELP JUDGEEEE! IT'S NOT FAIR!!!"
It's exactly the same line of thought that puts blame on someone who kills a jogger in self-defense.

To the best of anyone's knowledge, this "Matthew Burns" person he's basically calling Hitler is just a Facebook troll account. Completely blank profile, his pic is an Asian guy in a Bernie Sanders shirt.

Only thing he's done publicly is poke at Russ over his rude reaction to the pregnancy announcement of a local Vegas showgirl he's been creeping on for over a year. Tagging her in all his posts, writing a song to "woo" her, buying her autographed calendar, repeatedly telling her she's "more than just a Burlesque Show" etc. Turns out she wasn't single. Who knew?

Ahh yes, I thought that name sounded familiar. I'm assuming it's that Colin dude from the UK. He seems to be the only one really contacting Russ directly at this point.

That is fucking hilarious.

If a Motion to Stay is denied, Greer will potentially lose this case because he is outmanned and outpowered by defendants because they have the funding to have a lawyer.

How is this not an outright admission that this is a frivolous lawsuit?

If you expect to lose your case once the other side can mount a basic defense, your case was garbage to begin with and you knew it.

The lawyers he’s trying to retain are not particularly “big name” ones. They are an org with only three lawyers in them, and they have only a few cases they are proud of (as shown on their website).
Is 400/hr not more than usual? IIRC the price for some of the Lawyers from the Vic Lasgagna case was something like $200/hr but I barely remember that case and didn't pay that much attention when it was happening. I think of this in terms of 2,040 hours/year worked. 400/hr is $816,000 if you managed to get that rate for all your yearly billable hours.

In general also what is the price scale versus effectiveness of a lawyer? If I hire a lawyer that is 2x as pricey as the cheapest lawyer will the legal services I get be 2x better? Are there diminishing returns for lawyers? I would understand if it varies based on the nature of the case. But in general?
