I don’t think Xi gave a shit about their finances at the time, or saw it as all the more reason to acquire Taiwan’s chip making industry. Given the timing between the announcement of their alliance with Russia, I think plenty of people in addition to myself believe that the plan was for Russian and China to synchronize invasions and split the ability of the US and NATO to respond.
However, since most of China’s military doctrine and equipment is from Russia, the fact that Ukraine didn’t collapse and neither NATO nor the US actually committed any assets, China shit themselves and sat it out.
I’d like to add that China took a few days to issue any sort of statement about their brand new ally’s invasion of Ukraine, and then they denied knowing it would happen in advance.
That would be a hell of a way to completely fuck over a new ally; to not tell them you were going to invade your neighbor two weeks after the smug announcement

Is Ukraine winning against Russia now? When you go to war, you must be certain about going full force. NATO either doesn't and goofing around with Ukrainian lives or it is and miscalculated severely. Both are failures of measurement.

the point is more that russia has vested interest for it's actions that go deeper than PUTIN = HITLER, and even russia knows military action is usually the last option when all others failed. so the question is why did they fail and how did it get that far? that wasn't russia's fault, or at least not alone.

Its a fundamental issue with the Marxists, leftoid progressive, high verbal-IQ types that love their scholarly intellectual abstractions so much. They think that their constructed rules override reality, and that they can manipulate or shift language and 'the rules' over time to engineer a situation where they just win by default and that people will just accept it. It would be insane if they weren't so effective at using this tactic to co-opt and long march through institutions, but on the flip side is that it eventually tends to fail (very messily) when people finally tell them to fuck off with their bullshit made-up rules.

For what its worth, a LOT of his cashing out of amazon stock is because he's pretty much single handedly funding Blue Origin, and his suborbital dick ride still hasn't turned a profit. He really does need the billions to shovel into it, spaceflight is that expensive.
At best, he might know something that'd hurt Amazons stock, but I doubt he's going to go as hard into political money as he might have in the past. His current focuses aren't really affected by partisan issues or easily benefited by cheap immigration or domestic politics, and his venture into journalism only burned a fuckton of his money. Not much for him to gain playing the games now.

Arguably, we would never know what is happening. In a sense, I'm certain there are a greater majority of people who would prefer the bliss that comes with ignorance.
It's a story as old as civilized time. My problem is, aside from Elon Musk, what other prominent figures are really out there that could compete with the legacy dinosaurs? I might not like these people and they have an earned/deserved perception of them. How much backdoor fuckery, coercion and other internal politics did they have to fight to get where they are now? More importantly, does our youth have the same resolve and endurance as these mummies? I'm very curious what families/figures will rise to power/prominence in the next few decades.

Pro welfare movements have hated space travel for decades. A lot of black activist groups protested the Apollo missions because that money would have been better spent in the ghettos. Desegregation caused a lot of black flight around that time so the ghettos weren't warzones like they are today, so they may have had a point early on.
