Authorities respond to reported shooting near Houston’s Lakewood church

Houston police quickly responded to Lakewood Church after receiving initial reports of possible shots fired around Lakewood Church.

The church confirmed shots were fired, adding, "Please pray for Lakewood and our community."

According to local law enforcement officials, the suspect has been shot and pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooter has been identified as a 30 to 35-year-old female who entered the church around 1:53 p.m. ET. She was holding a long riffle, carrying a backpack, and holding the hand of a small child.

Witnesses say she was claimed to have a bomb in her backpack and was spraying an unknown substance on the church's ground.

Multiple Law enforcement agencies are on-site collaborating on the investigation and will remain on the scene for the next several hours.

They believe this is an isolated incident, and they are conducting a deeper investigation to make sure no one else is inside the church.

Two victims had been taken to the hospital. A 5-year-old- boy is in critical condition and a 57-year-old male is being treated for a hip injury after being shot in the leg.

Several off-duty officers were at the church at the time of the shooting and were able to take the suspect down before she could claim any lives.

Governor Greg Abbott today issued a statement on the shooting near Lakewood church in Houston:

“Our hearts are with those impacted by today’s tragic shooting and the entire Lakewood Church community in Houston. Places of worship are sacred. I have been in contact with Mayor Whitmire and offered the full support and resources of the State of Texas, including Department of Public Safety officers and Texas Rangers, to help this community and help bring swift justice to the criminal who committed this heinous act. Join Cecilia and me in praying for this community during this difficult time and for the brave men and women in blue who acted quickly to respond to this tragedy.”

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said it is believed that the shooter was shot by a Harris County deputy.

"We also have HCSO deputies who work extra-jobs at the church," he added.

Lakewood Church, founded by Joel and Delores Osteen, is among the largest congregations in the country, averaging about 45,000 attendees per week, according to its website.

Officials set up a reunification center at Lamar high school and are asking people to avoid the area at this time.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

I live in the Bible Belt (but not Texas). I haven't met a single churchgoer that thinks Joel Olsteen is anything other than a reprehensible snake oil salesman.

My bet is that the woman had a very specific target that is related to a romantic relationship, i.e. baby daddy be cheating. That could explain why she felt the need to drag a kid along.

I wonder when this Jesus character will start protecting his churches. Created heaven and earth, can’t stop idiots with guns lol
Then two robbers were crucified with him, one on the right and one on the left. And those who passed by derided him, wagging their heads and saying, “You who would destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! If you are the Son of God, come down from the cross.” So also the chief priests, with the scribes and elders, mocked him, saying, “He saved others; he cannot save himself. He is the King of Israel; let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God; let God deliver him now, if he desires him; for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” And the robbers who were crucified with him also reviled him in the same way.

Damn i was hoping Chris Patton was dead. Shit. Anyway, Joel is an odd one. But also a woman in a megachurch with a gun huh. A big area. Much room. She should have thought tactically

Apparently the shooting was audible on the livestream church service. I can't archive this rn sorry. The FBI is searching a home in nearby town Conroe where the woman resided. She has yet to be publicly identified.
So now we know the FBI is definitely involved and if it is a troon or something like that, they're running interference.

This is how the usual Texas church shooting goes. Got 2 people with the shotgun and then gunned down by concealed carriers, took a 357 Sig to the forehead.

Can't get video to upload here, but needless to say graphic. It's insane how Reddit of all places is really the best place now to find uncut videos like this. This was in White Settlement awhile ago.

ETA: Got video to go on TOR I think.

ETA this video is from 2019 White Settlement Texas shooting. Just showing how this is normally done.

Well, shit. That sucks.

Can't stand Osteen and his ilk. The prosperity gospel preachers are nothing but thieves taking advantage of the poor and gullible.
No minister should have private jets or lock storm refugees out of their "church".

Sorry about her child and the man who was hurt.
Thank you for this post. Went to an actual service there and boy, it's cringe plus give us your money, God will give you more in return properity "gospel" fraud.

It's like a flappy McDo burger versus a great, satisfying meal in some fancy steak-house.

Compare an average Osteen podcast (sermon) with i.e Word on Fire by Bishop Robert Barron, you will immediately understand what I mean.

Oklahoma? They have Osteen clones there as well..

I'd rather call it the "Southern Baptist Belt".
