A friend convinced me to watch this thing called Doctor Elise, which is pretty good so far.

I can't explain it but the OP feels like something that would've been right in place in the 1990s or generally "when anime was good," so it makes a good first impression. As for the premise--a modern day doctor who remembers her past life gets a do-over on said past life.

That said, being a goofy guy, when I was watching this with friends the first thing I said is "I bet today they'll have a case of Lupus." Wrong doctor, I know.

JelloApocalypse, which some of you may know for their video telling you to vote and for his scat fetish (not looking that up I hope you understand), has recently gotten into anime dubbing. The Lovely Complex Discotek rerelease comes with an all new dub written by him and somebody else, and it is rampant with changes to the source material and hatred towards the original source material.

They later went and posted a whole rant on Patreon basically talking about how they altered so much in order to make the show "watchable" and how the show was a 3/10 at best. They altered everything revolving around this tranny character that showed up because it didn't fit with the times as well. The part that shocked me the most besides from the obvious was how the show is now considered old because its from the ancient year of...2007!

This is a huge fumble on Discotek's part, though it's not directly THEIR fault that the dub ended up like this. The state of the dubbing industry is irreversibly fucked. Archive of the post.
(forgive the horrible formatting of these images an archive is being uploaded as of this post)

Jello seems to have a reputation for kicking up dust in anime discussion as well, not just the vote thing.
I remember him getting heat for a few tirades he did on social media about the first FMA anime. Not because he didn't like it, but because his attitude drifted into asshole territory like blocking a YouTuber who made a video praising it.

They still approved of it enough to have him be involved in the dub and publish it. This was 100% Discotek-approved especially since it involved a trap, which they hate.

Goddamn it, if only the first release wasn't so fucking expensive. And I don't know if the manga has come back into print yet.

EDIT: Wait, I suck cocks on that last part. Looked it up on Amazon, the 2015 release is still like 40 bucks, which is reasonable. I swear it had gone out of print since many, if not all of, Eastern Star releases are pretty much out-of-print (I apparently was lucky to get the last copy of Captain Harlock from Robert's Anime Corner Store stock some years back), and I didn't recall seeing LoveCom available online.

Well shit, might as well pick it up very quick, then.

Doctor Elise has a manga that was good. The premise is that a spoiled brat noble girl who became queen was executed, then lived a second life as an orphan that became a doctor who died in a plane crash, then returned to her past life with the memories of both lives. She'll try to stop the plagues and misfortunes that her country suffered.

I've started rewatching DBZ Kai recently. I remember my brother and I watched it on Nicktoons back in 2010. After the Frieza saga it went on hiatus for a while. At the same time my family and I were moving so I stopped watching it when I was more busy with that. When it was over we didn't have Nicktoons for a while so I lost interest even when we did get it. I just got to the Namek saga. I'm divided if I like this more or the original dub. The original dub is what I grew up with but Kai as better dialogue. Though the original lines are more memorable. I also miss Falulconer's music. Fans have always been divided over that. Personally, I liked it. Some of the voices are weird. I like Bulmas original voice more and I'm spilt on Gohans. Friezas is probably better even though I do have nostalgia for the old one even though it made him sound like a chain-smoking granny. I mostly can't wait to get to the androids as that's where I stopped watching.

Wait I thought Elise was another webtoon anime or I am I thinking of another iseaki with the exact same premise of villainess that remembers a past life as a doctor (yes there are 1 or 2 other ones). People have been so focused on Solo Leveling that a lot are overlooking the fact there has been at least one korean webtoon anime almost every season for awhile
This season has Solo Leveling and maybe Doctor Elise
Last season had a returner's magic
The one before that was that Raeliana one
etc. etc.

The main reason why most people don't really care is a lot of gook webtoons feel the same as your standard jap isekai, even ones that aren't technically ones (i.e. solo leveling and a series called lookism that came out a year or two ago) and just dump them both in the same pile of crap.
Hell if webtoon anime isn't a complete astroturf by companies like CR and has somewhat of a audience in japan the only type of anime it'll arguably take a bite out of are isekai ones, and before anyone starts to argue that would be a good thing, it wouldn't lessen the amount of isekai shit being made just change where most are adapted from.

Japanese culture question - How exaggerated is the high class geisha trope that pops in anime, specifically the "you could work a whole year just to have tea with one". In the end it's a glorified commoner escort/whore, I can't see anyone dropping so much on one for anything else than a power play and even then it would make the whore houses retardedly wealthy.
I'm inclined to agree. To me, Lovecraft's horror always seemed to be more about a generalized xenophobia than any specific human subgroup.
I see it more of a fear of nihilism. it's not so much big creepy monsters, it's the fact that those beings prove lack of meaning and justice in the world. Sadly now we are bombarded with nihilism in all media, so Lovecraft just became creepy monster guy.

Update: Jello Apocalypse has been fired from doing dubs. I'm glad they made the right choice here, though I don't know how things got this bad in the first place. Dude was a fucking retard for shit talking a show he has to do work on. I don't know why he thought it was a good idea other than to smugly admit that he totally got away with fucking up a dub for people. I hope the gay culture war shit around localization stays away from Discotek, one of the only good anime distributors minus this one instance.

Discotek needs to go in there and fix the dub, then, if they fired him for it. But they won't, 'cause that costs money. They just got peeved he kept running his mouth and saying the quiet part out loud and people took notice. I don't see how Toei actually approved of any of that shit.

Also LOL:
"Anyone expecting exact fealty to the Japanese dialogue should be watching the subtitles, which Discotek has always presented with as little alteration as is possible"

Fucking bullshit, Discotek, we saw what you did to Lupin III: Treasure of Harimao, Kyattou Ninden Teyandee, Kashimashi: Girl Meets Girl, and others to not make your tranny staff cry.

I really want to like Discotek because they seem very pro physical media and pick up a bunch of stuff no one else would touch. But at the same time I've noticed a lot of their releases have had troons involved in the translation process.

How do you manage to be so far up your own ass that you threaten to quit unless you can cut out the scene WITH THE ORIGINAL CREATOR OF THE MANGA in it?!

Apparently there was a whole imgur album of Jello bitching about dubbing the show on his Discords, but it just links to a dead page for me.

Feels like all this drama is going to lead to Jello deleting fucking everything on his Patreon even remotely anime-opinionated. While I'm sure his pictureless rants are safe on the pirate sites, I'm worried about the preservation of his unlisted Book Club Youtube videos where he yells about One Piece being sexist and having too many characters and calling all shonen bad and Eichiro Oda a bad person.

What's the insane valvrave/healer hero/cross ange anime of the year? I have a hankering for something insane and R rated.

Looking Up to Magical Girls features a sexually sadistic lesbian teenage girl domming other girls against their will, some of them lesbians.
I'm honestly surprised there's not as much outrage for it as Redo of Healer, but that had a man literally raping a woman.
