On the subject of Norah, Norah/Mrs. Freeze has been done dirty multiple times. But in this instance, I think they're referencing the awful Tomasi/Manke comics with her.

Long story short, DC's woke white dude 'allys' have been trying to undermine Victor and Norah for the last ten years. Scott Snyder tried to force a retcon where Freeze is insane and Norah isn't really his wife, he just made it all up in his head. That fucking failed spectacularly. So they then moved to character assassinating Victor.

He's portrayed as really evil in the modern DCU. More than normally is in his character. His love for his wife is a prison to her blahblah. It's really bad. Anyway, it culminates in Tomasi having Victor curing Norah, but because he did it badly, she's now SUPEREVIL and doesn't care about him at all. Mrs Freeze infects him with a virus and now Victor is stuck in a tank thinks to her so he won't try to keep her from murdering people like an edgy boring bitch killer frost knockoff. She doesn't love him.

Because that's a good take, a stronk powerful woman, because why would people want something wholesome like a man and his wife who just really love each other? What's worse is there are people that LIKE this shit. It's depressing as fuck.

Even the DCAU messed it up after the original BTAS series, to be fair. In In the movie Sub-Zero, Nora is cured and goes off to live a normal life with some other guy, leaving poor Freeze to become an even more messed up character who's nothing but a floating head in the episode "Cold Comfort." After that he just disappears. One of the tie-in comics did have them reunite briefly, but it's not exactly a great ending.

I think Arkham is the only place Freeze has gotten the genuine redemptive good ending you want to see, where he and Nora go off to live out her final days together after she gets thawed out.

I know, and I fucking hate it. Their "tribute episode" shat all over BB while the show itself only had a few episodes left to wrap up both itself and regular Justice League. I was livid at the time and still am.

I never really liked Beyond much anyway (for the reasons I've said before) but I hate how good the flashback part of Epilogue with Batman consoling Ace was because it feels like it deserved a better episode to be in.

Even with the store employees recommending the books and begging people at gun point to buy those books they do not sell and are dusty and sun bleached from how long they been on shelves. It's easy to forget that she was originally dead in the B:TAS revamp. She should've stayed that way.

And to be fair to Unlimited, Beyond had stupid shit in it too. Grayson apparently left Bruce because, under Dini's writing, Bruce would have fucked Barbara and gotten her pregnant. Barbara then would have tried doing the whole Batgirl thing, got punched in the stomach, then had a miscarriage which destroyed their relationship. This would explain why shes getting blacked in Beyond. I think he even snuck it into the comic iirc.

Most of that sounds like crap from the comic, which afaik Timm/Dini had little to nothing to do with. The show doesn't give a lot of details, but Batgirl was implied to have retired after getting shot. I liked the Bruce/Babs thing in Batman Beyond, because it came across as completely dysfunctional and not a weird ship. I liked that they all hated each other, sue me.

idgaf about the Terry thing either, although that episode was kind of a mess... fwiw, they had apparently had that twist in mind since before JL and just hadn't gotten around to it.

As far as I can tell, the Female Freeze in this game is not gonna be Norah, it's literally just a genderbent Victor who's a butch lesbian.

Damian was technically around much longer than that, Bruce and Talia's son Ibn al Xu'ffasch, who appeared in, I think, 'Son of the Demon' and 'Kingdom Come', but only made the transition to main line canon as Damian Wayne around 2006.

I am pretty sure Grayson left because Batman was getting more violent and cold as he went along. There was an entire scene of Batman willing to beat a man in front of his kid. BTAS depicted a version of Batman that spiraled downwards in comparison to The Batman or Brave & The Bold, where he became more socially healthy with time. The story you are quoting came in through a comic adaptation, which typically were made without involvement from the DCAU staff.

In all honesty though, I think BTAS had a really poor version and handling of Grayson in general. Hell, I would argue the Arkham games followed and made Dick worse. I can hardly ever remember much about Dick in comparison to Tim, who in and of himself was written like Jason for some reason. Dick really only started to shine with Teen Titans and especially Young Justice (even the poor later seasons still make him highly competent).

Outside of the twist, it was a pretty good episode. Would have been a great send off had they not included the Bat cum detail. I like the idea of Waller trying to manufacture a Batman, only for it to come naturally without her involvement. The story with Batman and Ace was also very sweet.

A lot of it is also higher ups demanding stories be changed to make things exciting. Parker can never be married as corporate only sees Spider-Man as a teenager. Having him as a middle-aged dad will stop the kiddos from liking him.

To defend modern writers a bit, Freeze is a one-trick pony that writers have to somehow keep using. Not even the BTAS writers knew what to do with him post-debut. His wife story can work for one narrative, but any farther and it falls apart. No one in the DC universe can get this woman cured? Then if she is cured, what does Freeze even do?

Idea for a female hero? She's a Green Lantern. Idea for an asshole kid? He's Robin. No idea for Spiderman? Kill him and slot in a black guy with nearly identical backstory. It was so lazy and unrewarding. And because nobody is allowed to stay dead you end up with six GLs, four Flashes, three Robins, two Spidermen and Krypto being canon again. Just pure shit.

It is a fundamental flaw of combining an entire company’s lineup into a singular universe. You cannot make break out characters in a space where they will get bogged by guy from 70 years ago with same powers and/or characteristics.
