Navy SEALs, Delta Force, and SOCOM general - The most "Special" groups in the U.S. Military

One of my 3-Star commander friends had their two-star promotion delayed by over 4 years due to snippy bullshit and officer egos.
Their side of the story goes as such:
  • Year 2013
  • During Counterinsurgency efforts in North Afghanistan
  • at the time, 1-star brigadier general
  • ~6mo out from promotion
  • In intelligence brief with a higher-ranking officer of significant clout.
  • The higher-ranking officer in question is smart but known for making poor decisions with collected HUMINT. Also doesn't like being critiqued on their plans.
  • Friend points out that acting upon the HUMINT in the manner proposed was very similar to a previous operation in North Afghanistan from a month prior
  • This previous operation was successful but caused some deltas to get injured (allegedly)
  • High-ranking officer berates my friend, puts them down, and generally becomes very unpleasant very quickly
  • Eventually transferred to Stuttgart in early 2014
    • I met them on vacation to Germany over 4th of July weekend for unrelated reasons that year - just needed a place to stay for 2 nights
  • Friend doesn't get promoted until 2017
I was invited to the promotion ceremony when they finally got their second star.
I asked how they felt and they were relieved and grateful, but also looked very exhausted. I can't personally attest to how bad these attitudes are but it always seems to percolate from above to below. It's disappointing and is one reason among a multitude as to why the armed services are having a hard time keeping lower ranks filled.
Your bud is in the upper echelons of rank. He is also a politician and does the same shit to others. Make no mistake. No doubt he is flabbergasted why field soldiers (real men) don't have pressed uniforms in the field and smell like roses all the time.

I don't know about the upper echelons, but can butthurt over a plan disagreement delay someone's promotion for 4 years? I mean, I could believe it, but it sounds incredibly petty and pointless. Well, unless there was competition with someone above for the second star.

There is. Unlikely a plan disagreement derailed his promotion. Once you are promoted above 0-5 (LTC in the Army) it becomes a political game promotions are approved by Congress at that point

Cheap and sensible solution?!
I think you've earned a trip to the Military Industrial Complex reeducation facility.
It's okay, the R&D boys have assured me that our new Casual Battle Tactics (CBT) System is made with only the most expensive, heat-resistant and bulletproof polymers our military will have to take out several foreign loans to afford. With this new uniform we should be able to inflate the national debt by sevenfold within weeks of adoption.

Late I know. Somehow I missed this post.

Did anyone humiliated US, UK and France naval forces more than anyone the Houthis in the last 60 years? Houthis might become the ocean Viet cong.
We'll see. Just because they are hard to deal with, doesn't mean there won't be a counter adaptation. However, hopefully special forces raids will only be a small part of that adaptation equation; this thread used as my evidence.

Retired Delta Force Operator Brian Gilligan was arrested on multiple charges of peeping, domestic violence, and violating a restraining order.

Peeping charges are the most amusing. Guess you can't spend years learning how to do recon at an observation post without some skills translating into the civilian world. Great find!

Also, same phenotype as William Lavigne.

Google results being lousy now is a blessing in disguise. Didn't find the Delta article I was looking for but found that lol

TFW you're a Tier One operator and get caught peeping, when horny high school nerds know how to get away with it. "Felony secret peeping" appears to be filming someone without their consent. I guess he installed a camera in his exes' house or some shit?

UPDATE TO THE THREAD BOYS!

As you may note in the title, I asked a mod to add Delta Force to the tittle since thanks a lot to the efforts of @JIDF Team 6 we saw in this thread how fucked up they are and that they are pretty much no better than their DEVGRU counterparts.

Also, looking at r/JSOCarchive:
DELTA BOOK.png

It looks like the vetbro grift isn't over just yet. Another former unit member is going to sell his book (as a jump start to selling his brand of tactical gear, sure). You know what pisses me off the most here? It is that these books are fucking ghostwritten. They yap, and yap and yap in The Unit about being smart and tactical and putting in effort, and these motherfuckers cannot be bothered to type their own books. It's not that hard to use a keyboard to tell your story, friends.

Well, I'm sure Adam Gamal's book is absolutely riveting, and I'm totally going to buy his branded, overpriced tacticool gear that THE UNIT totally uses.

I have a suspicion that perhaps Brian Gilligan was trying to pull a Ralph and get some revenge porn kompromat to mess with her, but got caught, and maybe his lawyers got the charge down to felony peeping. Just a theory that'd fit with his domestic abuse and restraining order charges.

Holy shit this title. How retarded do you have to be not to get the irony? Speaking of poor writing, the official Delta recruiting notices have grammatical and spelling errors.

It's unusual, but thru is sometimes considered an acceptable alternative to through.

Wow, the amount info we've got for a unit that does not exist! Oh my Yahweh, so much secrecy!

I went to grammarly.com and they gave the verdict.

-Thru is an alternate spelling that should be used only in informal writing or when referring to drive-throughs/drive-thrus.

I personally believe it's very unprofessional, especially when in a bulletin board for the recruitment of US "MOST SECRET ELITE UNIT THAT EVERYONE KNOWS ABOUT"

Apparently that cop who mag dumped his own car because an acorn fell on it was a special forces officer for a decade. He also somehow never saw combat through the whole thing, which would lead me to believe he was clearly not fit for field work but passed everything so it'd be awkward to outright remove the guy and instead immediately made him a staffer or something.
Special Forces is the biggest misnomer in the US military. There are 6,600 active duty Green Berets. SFAS is only 3 weeks long and lots of huge pussies make it through.

You can clearly see why is it necessary to keep an eye on the SEALs community. Not only do they lie, but they lie shamelessly to keep their brand reputation, and everyone who doesn't know better eats it up.

From Matthew Cole's book, he said many SEALs refuse to shake Lutterell hand. I have a hard time finding the video of the event, I saw it on live leak, but that went away, and it clearly showed the reality that they were not 200 or even 50 Taliban. If any of you guys have the sub version archived, I'll link it in the OP. I'm just finding parts of it now.
You mean this video or is this just a the part of it?
